Ultra-Orthodox Haredi Jews: Gays Caused War in Lebanon
The Ultra-Orthodox Haredi Jews are on the same page as the evangelical Christian group Repent America, who blamed Hurricane Katrina's destruction of New Orleans on the gay Southern Decadence festival that was to have taken place over Labor Day weekend in 2005.
The Haredim say that the Gay Pride parade that was planned in Jerusalem was the reason war broke out with Lebanon. Thousands protested against it on Wednesday at Jerusalem’s Sabbath Square:
"'The war in the north broke out as soon as the parade was announced,' a Mea Shearim resident told Ynet...Rabbi Moshe Sternbuch, the head of the Eda Haredit rabbinic court, said during the rally, 'We did not succeed in Lebanon due to the obscenity and promiscuity in the Holy Land.'"
The sign in the photo above reads "Jerusalem is not Sodom, Amsterdam or New York."
When will these religious wingnuts realize that their hate and intolerance is the true source of conflict?

Gays caused the war in Lebanon.......wow. How is that any different from what Hitler said about the Jews destroying the German economy and racial "purity"? This is really, really sad.

Is it any wonder that hate crimes seem to be on the rise around the world?
Another point that normal humans are powerless; when zealots reap control over lands and politics there is little left to do except watch the decay of society.
So much festering hatred, fueled by the words and actions of a few fringe biggots who will NOT stop until their point is accepted as the truth.
Horrible, wretched people.
All in the name of some diety that the rest of the worlds population does not support or conceptually believe in; Jesus, Allah, Mohamad, etc...
With all the Christian rhetoric rising to prominence in the US when the Idiot came into office, is it any wonder that so much more extremism is going on elsewhere? "If the US can do it, so can we!".
I honeslty have a growing appreciation for the communist states of the last century.

how ironic that they would have mentioned amsterdam in this context when historically jews fared much better in holland than elsewhere in europe. the netherlands maintained an open immigration policy for jews fleeing nazi germany, and when holland itself was overrun by the nazis, many dutch citizens risked their lives helping jews by hiding them, forging documents to protect them, etc.
it really saddens me that the same people urging us never to forget the holocaust would themselves forget the role that the netherlands have played in the preservation of european jewry.

Ironic that the Orthodox Jews and the Fundamentalist Muslims both blame Gays for their little war with each other. I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same where people are concerned. Neither takes responsibility for their finger pointing and lay blame on everyone but themselves. I guess the old adage is true; it's far easier to dodge responsibility for your own shortcomings by instilling hate and scapegoating others than to love yourself and admit your own faults...

While I think any type of theism is a form of psychosis, it is important to distinguish between these fools [would it be a sin to look in the mirror and see how stupid they look in those outfits?] and other observant Jews who range across a spectrum of openess as much as Xtians do. For instance, homohysteric the Reverend Fred Phelps and gay Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson both called themselves same.
Still, religious bullies of any stripe must be opposed with all the uncompromising furor we can muster.

Well, I have been carrying on an interestinf e-mail conversation with a high up at GLBT Jews org.
I sent their entire board a link to this.
Their official response so far is "they believe what they believe, have for centuries, oh well"
Now how is the larger gay community suppsoed to respond to this when the Gay jews make excuses for their fellow jews.
I tried to stress to them that fundies are fundies wether xtian, jew, or muslim
That the stabbings of gay jews in israel by jews is encouraged by the orthedox "just believing what they believ"
When the gay jews won't stand up and dneounce such religous crazynness for what it is, then how can they expect boyim to stand up to xtian crazy fundies
