Election Day: Democrats Look to Take Back Congress
Most are predicting Democrats to win a majority in the House of Representatives for the first time since 1994. Democrats must gain 15 seats to do so. The Dems must make a net gain of six seats in the Senate to gain control there, although most current predictions show Republicans holding it. Governors are on the ballot in 36 states. Eight states (Virginia, Tennessee, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, South Carolina, South Dakota and Wisconsin) are considering amendments that would ban gay marriage.
Here are a couple of videos to provide some impetus to get out and vote (if the last six years haven't been impetus enough). The first is a video reinterpretation of George Michael's "Freedom" and the second is Keith Olbermann's special pre-election comment. Good stuff.
As Olbermann puts it, "This country was founded to prevent anyone from making it up as they went along." Make a note of that.

How incredible is Keith Olbermann? I only wish the Democrats could say half of what he has said, and that the attention-span-challenged voters would hear it.
I do hope this election goes the Democrats' way tonight. Not only because I believe we're going in the wrong direction, but more because I loathe even thinking about the smug, self-satisfied grins of Bush, Rove, Cheney, etc. if they succeed again. We have nothing to fear but the voters themselves, I guess.

Larry... you said a mouth full.
As I mentioned in previous posts, I have no faith in pollsters or pundits. If they were anywhere near accurate, this election would be a referendum on the last quarter of the Gore administration or the 1st quarter of the Kerry one. So you have the hype of the pollsters beging touted by the pundits on one hand, and you have the negative, smear campaigns by the GOP on the other. I just have no faith in the American population to do the right thing; to stop this insanity that has taken over our government.
The only thing positive right now is that SO many seats are up for grabs that by shear osmosis or ignorance, power may shift from one party to the other ending the tyranny of Bush.
I love our Republican senator, Lincoln Chafee. Hell of a nice guy, good Statesman. But the bigger picture is; if he holds his seat, Bush can hold control over the Senate. That... has to stop. Like the War in Iraq; stopped at any cost.
I hope I awake tomorrow to a bright, new day, and not a referendum to the Hell we have watched this country spiral down in.

Andy , I have to disagree with you
Gallup poll and quite a few republicans last night show 6 senate seats for the dems.
It did look hard their for a while, but the 6 seats for dem control appear to now be there.
The house of course is 25-50 depending on which pundit you listen to.

You would be surprised how many log cabin republicans read and post on towleroad.
Anyway; everyone......VOTE! Dem
conservative/republican gays this is an "intervention" as Andrew Sullivan a gay conservative pundit says. Andrew Sullivan a gay conservative pundit says that the dems must win to "svae" the republican party from the neo-cons.
If you want to be a log cabin republican....whatever, but listen to conservative Gay Pundit Andrew Sullivan and this year vote dem.

Is it wrong to be in so love with Keith Olbermann? His palpable anger makes him, I think, really sexy.

Thanks for the election coverage, this is a huge opportunity for us to vote in pro-gay equality candidates.

Keith Olbermann is brilliant obviously, and I look forward to each one of his thought-provoking dissections of the ways in which BushCo. has mangled our great nation...but I wish he would stop signing off with 'Good night and good luck.'...I understand the parallel Olbermann is making...that the Bush years are as dark as those of McCarthy, Nixon, etc...but we all know it's Edward R. Murrow's sign off, and Olbermann's use of the phrase seems silly, overly theatrical and makes me cringe whenever he says it. I do hope he continues to give the Bush administration hell, though.

That "Freedom" video was brilliant and deeply moving. Somewhere along my journey of jadedness, I had lost the love of my country and its potential. Thank you for reminding me.

If loving KO is wrong, my ass doesn't want to be right. It seems he is absent tonight from MSNBC's election coverage, which is a shame.
