Ricky Martin Defends Right to Use His Middle Finger
Wednesday I posted about the message Ricky Martin has been sending to concertgoers:
"During his performance in Puerto Rico, Ricky Martin stuck his middle finger out when he mentioned President Bush’s name. In the song "Asignatura Pendiente", there is a line in the lyrics that goes: A photo with Bush… As he said this, Ricky gave him the F-you treatment and the crowd of 18,000 fans went crazy and cheered."
Yesterday, Martin defended his actions, releasing this statement:
"My convictions of peace and life go beyond any government and political agenda and as long as I have a voice onstage and offstage, I will always condemn war and those who promulgate it."

Promulgate?
And all this time, I thought he was just a pretty face.

Wow. Celebrities are so brave when public tide turns. Bashing Bush! How heroic and edgy!

Without war there would be no peace.

In Spanish, the word "promulgar" is not particularly fancy and it is common for bilingual people to borrow a word that is common in their native tongue and use it in their second language, often incorrectly but not in this case. Just because you guys only speak one language doesn't mean everybody has the same limitation.

This is why you gotta love libs. Who else is gonna hold up Ricky Martin giving President Bush the finger as some sort of shining newsworthy event that somehow validates the left's opinion that the Iraq war is bad?
That this continues to receive attention speaks volumes about the liberal psyche.

We should be glad more celebs are speaking out against Bush instead of criticizing them for doing something. Would you prefer people in the public eye staying quiet? Better late than never.

Umm...without war there would be no peace? Correct me if I'm wrong, but an accurate definition of peace would be "without war". So, shouldn't it be "Without war, there would be peace"?

Bush gets the finger. Everyone rejoices.
Ricky probably did write that statement. It sounds very much like him. He's been trying to find solace since the gay rumors and backlash and this is the language he uses.

Did I just inadvertently stumble upon a Log Cabin Repug jammy party? Sorry girls, I forgot to pack my sacred undies. But can I still join, pretty pretty please?

The Dali Lama also speaks of peace and life, but you don't see him giving the finger to world leaders. There is something intellectually dishonest in Ricky's explanation--you can't be for peace, life, and all those grandiose things, and resort to using such a gratuitously insulting gesture.

Wow, only took him six years to come to that conclusion and speak up.

OK.
somebody needs to lay their pimp hand down upside this 'ho's wide wide head.
Ricky Martin was on stage dancing WITH & performing @ a STOLEN election party for the ringworm known as G.W. Bush.
Martin was completely silent last year on the immigration march & now that this turd has less than 9mos left in office NOW he decides to speak up.
2 faced spineless pussy , sod off , where were you when you could have sounded off 7 yrs ago? You were dancing onstage with this NAZI.
Stinks of hypocrisy!!

Um, I voted for W.'s dad... but that was like 15 FREAKIN' years ago and I had some hard life lessons since then to bring me around to a more libertarian view of the world. But I guess that doesn't matter. Past political choices never get erased huh?
Move over Ricky, that cross is gonna get crowded soon.

I can't believe there is actually 18,000 people that would pay to see this douche.

My two thumbs up to Ricky! I stick my middle fingers up at Bush all the time, but no one notices or even cares. I'm glad that we have more and more celebrities coming forward and expressing their disapproval of Bush
