Brady Quinn Hits the NFL Combine

Brady_quinn_1

I'm sure some of you have been wondering what former Notre Dame Quarterback and Bruce Weber pin-up Brady Quinn has been up to since the college football season ended and he lost the Heisman. He's been preparing for the upcoming NFL draft and last week participated in the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

Brady_quinn_2 Brady_quinn_3

The combine provides an opportunity for coaches, managers, and owners of pro teams to get a closer look at what they might be purchasing in the coming year. A football meat market, shall we say.

After this quick study, yeah, I think I'd let Brady play for our team.

I do not get the appeal - sorry guys.

Posted by: Derek | Mar 1, 2007 4:24:00 PM

He has a training blog on xbox.com. It's very bland, but if you're like me and don't know what to do with yourself when the season's over, it's at least something:

Posted by: SgR | Mar 1, 2007 4:28:21 PM

can I have that?

PLEEEEEZZZZZZZEEEEEE???!!??!!

Posted by: rich | Mar 1, 2007 4:29:51 PM

I assume that Brady understands the budding icon creation within the gay community he's allowed himself to become? I hope this means a liberal, non-judgemental mind is behind that cute face?

Posted by: Jack | Mar 1, 2007 4:44:09 PM

I don't get the appeal either. Nice body, but I'd bury that face in a pillow.

He looks like a mannequin. Especially in the last picture.

Posted by: Tread | Mar 1, 2007 4:51:18 PM

Really nice! Is he gay?

Posted by: Ed | Mar 1, 2007 4:51:21 PM

The appeal is some of us like our men to look like boy-nextdoor fratboys, esp when they have the body Brady has. It doesn't hurt that he's always in football gear.

The point of making "i don't get the appeal" posts baffles me. Not everyone agrees on what is sexy. Obviously Andy like him, as do many others. I don't think you're going to keep Andy from posting pics of him anytime soon.

Posted by: nycredneck | Mar 1, 2007 4:55:33 PM

That wasn't the goal. I just don't find him attractive.

Posted by: Tread | Mar 1, 2007 4:59:07 PM

My point is NYCredneck is that I am free to post my opinion and that I do not understand the hype over this kid. I, and obviously others, do not find him attractive. And I am not looking for Andy to stop doing anything since I read his blog almost on the hour and I love it - regardless of what or whom he posts. I think you are probably baffled pretty easily.

Posted by: Derek | Mar 1, 2007 5:01:55 PM

Derek, I agree. He's cute and all - and the body is something else - but ... blah.

Posted by: the other jeff | Mar 1, 2007 5:05:44 PM

I for one, think he's hot. And I certainly would not throw him out of bed!

Posted by: whatever | Mar 1, 2007 5:24:34 PM

I don't care what he looks like. He played for Notre Dame, so he's instantly a loser and he's a shitty quarterback that's only gotten the press he has because he plays for the terminally overhyped Fightin' "except when it comes to Bowl games and then we lose 9 in a row" Irish. He doesn't have the arm or physical skills to make it in the NFL. Enjoy him while you can, Andy, because in 3 years he's going to be selling insurance or something.

Posted by: Henry Holland | Mar 1, 2007 5:26:54 PM

There's nothing wrong with not finding Brady attractive, but why do you feel the need to say so? Are you upset that others see something you don't and you want validation for your opinion?

Different strokes, guys, geez.

Posted by: mark m | Mar 1, 2007 5:28:10 PM

Mark M., that's like asking why people feel compelled to swoon over pics. Everyone wants to be heard regardless. The detractors aren't necessarily drowning out the supporters of certain guys.

To each is own, indeed.

Freedom of speech is a GOOD thing. Embrace it.

Posted by: the other jeff | Mar 1, 2007 5:33:37 PM

i dont care what u think but it's hard to tpye with one hand heh

Posted by: mr.bates | Mar 1, 2007 5:52:32 PM

Swooning is so much more understandable than "meh"...

Swooning is an almost biological function that prompts you to action. Not finding someone attractive, should in theory mean that you simply pass it up.

But no.

Not here.

We can't simply keep scrolling, we have to question why others are attracted to someone we aren't. There's just something fishy going on with a pysche that must express negative thoughts rather than keeping them to himself.

Posted by: mark m | Mar 1, 2007 5:54:52 PM

He's a little too cro-magnon for my tastes and reminds me a little of Aaaarnold. It's not like this post is for anything but oogling you know.

Posted by: anon | Mar 1, 2007 6:05:34 PM

This is the thing that I hate about this blog. Everything else is great except these entries. Almost all of these eye candy entries are of straight men. I wish there was more effort in finding pics of hot gay men. They are out there. They exist.

Posted by: Jack! | Mar 1, 2007 6:11:06 PM

Now I know who isn't attractive to Derek...

Thank you, my life is complete.

Posted by: Dan | Mar 1, 2007 6:11:55 PM

He's majorly cute with a hot bod. What's not to like..

Also, how about just appreciating pics of a hot guy? Why do you have to consider if he's gay or not? Just curious why the distinction has to be made...

Bitter, party of one, we have your table ready.

HH, you may not find him attractive, which is in the eye of the beholder, and you may not like Notre Dame, which is clear from your post, but he would not have made it in the top of the race for the Heisman, and being the number one seeded pick in the draft, if he was not a great player.

I have had the pleasure of seeing him play in South Bend, my nephew and niece both attend, and it is a great school, despite my strong dislike for most things related to the Catholic Church. What makes Brady stand out is not only his skills on the field, but his sense of team spirit. He is clearly not gay, but knows he has a following. Like most of my Irish Catholic family, his generation is far more accepting than mine or my parents.

I don't get the whole fanatic concept. I love sports, and while I am a Met fan, I'm happy to see the Yanks do well, or who ever wins a playoff. I understand what it means to compete, having run 12 marathons, and I know the love of sport. I wish those who say they do, while they just watch and play armchair critic, sat back a bit and chilled out.

Posted by: patrick nyc | Mar 1, 2007 6:47:17 PM

ok.I'm changing the subject:::.I don't know"jack shit" about football... how humiliating is it to be treated like a racing horse?.....and he's a bit small ..the picture of him I think standing on a scale and he's eye to eye with the guy doing the measurements ..or whatever the fuck they do........that's what I can do measurements for them!!.my new career

Posted by: tc` | Mar 1, 2007 6:51:55 PM

Not having unlimited time on my hands, I'll just say that he's excellent boyfriend material. Keep up the excellent work bringing all the news and then some!

Posted by: John | Mar 1, 2007 6:53:53 PM

Why does it matter Greg? These pics are decided because someone is straight or not, that's why. All you have to do is look at gay porn. How much gay porn is packaged as straight men do this or that? Many. How much gay porn is packaged as gay men do this or that? Very few. So you have a LARGE number of gay men that fantasize about straight men because they are percieved as being more masculine. And that is what most gay men want, a masculine man. Look at gay personals. Many specifically say they want a "straight-acting" guy.

Yet you gay media that doesn't show those masculine gay men. So this cycle repeats itself generation after generation. Gay media DO NOT care about gay people instead their own profit margins. They do a great disservice to gay people.

Posted by: Jack! | Mar 1, 2007 7:05:52 PM

Beautiful body. The face... not so much. On that, I agree with Derek and Tread.

Of course I'm glad this was posted. The body is a feast for the eyes and the photo of the "meat market" - showing him shirtless on stage with that whole audience staring at his ass - is fascinating.

I think some of us feel the need to say he's not attractive because he was introduced in the first paragraph as a "pin-up". I beg to differ with that classification. He's not ugly per se, I just don't consider him pin-up material.

Posted by: Rich | Mar 1, 2007 7:10:05 PM

It'd hit in everyday that ends in y =)

Posted by: Cory | Mar 1, 2007 7:17:56 PM

I don't mind if he gets posted because he's certainly not fug.

But it sometimes pisses me off when a straight fella making in the millions, and who couldn't give two shits about whether or not we're discussing him atm, and who will likely never do anything to acknowledge our community or be associated with it, is THE person we have to fuss each other against.

It really ticks me off..especially since I know for a fact:
1) Gay guys bring as much attention if not more than the straight counterparts, as shown on the topics featuring men or stories involving the community on this blog.
2) There are soo many gay guys out there who are so much sexier, vibrant, and interesting than these guys (no offense to the straight guys who aren't necessarly all douches because of their orientation, but it's just what I think..)

Posted by: Da | Mar 1, 2007 7:34:22 PM

If he's not hot, why do I keep coming back to this site to look at those pictures?

Posted by: Bob | Mar 1, 2007 10:07:41 PM

First off, these pictures do not do him justice. He is much, much better looking in person. More importantly, he is a great kid. There was a fine portrait of him in the NY Times last fall and everything they said is true. I know people who have had him as a student and think very highly of him. Not surprisingly, he sat at the back of the class, but participated in discussions – no attitude. He was a double major in political science and finance and finished a semester early, so he is no slouch. On top of it all, he is very nice guy, who did a good deal of service work while he was here. And he was not just going through the motions, he actually participated with enthusiasm. As far as his newfound position as a gay pin-up. I doubt that he is even aware. I swear – you would be amazed at just how naive some of the kids are here. He probably saw Tom Brady doing a lot of magazine covers and just thinks this is what big-time players do. I am pretty confident that he had no idea who Weber is or the implications of doing a shoot specifically with him. Refreshingly funny, actually.

Posted by: lats | Mar 1, 2007 10:25:11 PM

Yes he is hot.

On one hand I want to say that this was a waste of time. I would say that Brady Quinn has nothing to do (or proven thus far)with homosexuality. We are just oggling at the extremely unattainable.

On the other hand, as a gay male in this time period I should have the right to oggle and objectify a guy for no good reason at all. Gay or striaght.

So Im split.

Posted by: Toto | Mar 1, 2007 11:06:14 PM

And that combine thing seems really gay. Who else is betting some of those older dudes are sprouting hard ons?

Posted by: Toto | Mar 1, 2007 11:11:50 PM

I agree we should see more of hot gay men instead of straight hot guys. I lust over both Rusty Joiner and Brady Quinn, but then again they are both straight!!! I makes me sick to see straight guys in gay blogs and magazines.

Posted by: Mark S | Mar 1, 2007 11:15:27 PM

Rusty joiner is straight, but he is fooling his gay supporters. He should not be photograhed in gay publications! We should see only hot gay models. Their are alot of gay, "straight" models out their, we need to see more of them!!! Not guys like Rusty Joiner and Brady Quinn.

Posted by: Mark | Mar 1, 2007 11:26:07 PM

everybody oogles the unattainable. Do you really think all the straight women who oogle brad pitt will get him?? We have the right to fantasize too and not feel guilty about it....just like everybody else..

Posted by: alan brickman | Mar 1, 2007 11:48:57 PM

"On the other hand, as a gay male in this time period I should have the right to oggle and objectify a guy for no good reason at all. Gay or striaght."
Posted by: Toto |

I hear that..Admitting there was a fair representation of guys of all orientations (gay, bi and straight) then it'd be alright. As it is with females, sort of.

But the issue is that beyond our community, gays don't stand a chance at all to be represented...ie a sport magazine will not plaster pictures of gay swimmers all over their pages no matter how 'cute' they are.

That's why it's disheartning to witness the effort that's being undertaken within our community to strip gay males of their sole chance to ever be considered as sex symbols; while there's a simultaneous push to turn straigths into the only models to oggle and look up to - which I think is a form of "mental enslavement" for our kind, no less. I mean it. And it's an enslavement based on lies and myths which we are well aware of, but dully and docilely perpetuating.

And at a moment like this, I cannot help but being reminded of Anthony Castro (the young football player who died at 19) and think how he would never have had the chance to get Brady Quinn's spot on here while he was still alive - when it's a similar structure Mr Quinn is a part of which taunted him and caused him turmoil when he came out..college football, the NFL, professional sports in general.

http://www.towleroad.com/2007/01/espn_honors_the.html
http://outsports.com/local/2007/0124anthonytribute.htm

I really don't mean to recuperate Anthony's death in this way, but it does *hurt* as seen in some of the responses here and elsewhere, so it had to be said...

And what's more is there are thousands of Anthonys out there in gay swimmer teams, in football, basketball, soccer, athletism, etc. Guys who could use a bit of exposure and a push and some much needed validation. And they don't.

By the way, I'm not refering to Andy's blog per se, cause it's just one of hundreds of blogs and forums doing the same thing, plus this site has done such an amazing job covering the major issues which is a ton of work, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I wish he was the one to go against the grain and take the lead, so to speak.

Of course, this is all opinions and there are always various takes on everything, so I hope this topic will continue to debated openly and by all on this site and beyond..

Posted by: Da | Mar 2, 2007 12:59:04 AM

I'd hit it.

Posted by: GM | Mar 2, 2007 1:37:23 AM

1. He's just beautiful. There are no other words to describe his physical appearence.

2. You don't always here lots and lots about people being good people, nice and kind... but that's all I hear about when Brady Quinn's name.

3. He seems open-minded and, as a community, having someone like him do well in the NFL could be very important. Allies of gay causes have been at least as important, if not more important, than just glbt people.

4. This photo shoot was exceptionally interesting. I knew they did this kind of "meat market" stuff, but I bet most people don't. Furthermore, it's frakking hot!

5. Andy, I want more Brady Quinn!

Posted by: Ryan | Mar 2, 2007 4:50:33 AM

Andy should profile guys from the gay rugby team. Woof!

I think more gay athletes would be great.. but hot guys are hot guys... it seems that some here have a knee-jerk reaction in assuming that we all have inferiority complexes and think straight men are better. Don't project your study research onto those of us here at towleroad who just like to look at men.

They're just hot guys, not political statements.

Posted by: mark m | Mar 2, 2007 8:32:03 AM

he is beautiful. makes my knees wobbly.

Freedom of speech is a GOOD thing. Embrace it.

Expressing negative opinions is putting out negative energy - keep it to yourself.

Posted by: rjp3 | Mar 2, 2007 10:19:20 AM

He's okay. My partner Richard is way hotter, but what can I say? I love him.

Posted by: Gary | Mar 2, 2007 10:59:05 AM

Derek -

Yes, because I don't understand why you think anyone cares that you don't find him attractive I'm obviously retarded. It's like we're in 5th grade...you can't just comment you have to put in a dig as well.

No one said you couldn't say it, I just said I don't see the point. The reflexive "freedom of speech" thing is like those who argued that Tim Hardaway has freedom of speech. Yes, no one locked him up or stopped him from saying it, but the NBA has their own right to "fire" him for it, just like I have my own right to say I think your speech was pointless. Did I ask andy to cancel your account? No. There was no infringement on your freedom of speech, just a critique of it.

Oh, and for those clamoring for more gay pics posted by andy...he has always said this is a blog with homosexual tendencies...not a gay blog. I think it is quite demonstrative of gay tendencies to post a hot guy. By that logic should straight sites not post pictures of hot monogamously coupled people...since obviously they wouldn't have any hope of getting with them?!? Hotness is a physical attribute...not a sexuality attribute.

Posted by: nycredneck | Mar 2, 2007 11:17:01 AM

Freedom of speech is a great thing. Both sides are necessary to start some dialogue- I mean look what happened. And I like reading comments from all sides almost as much as the blog itself. So....maybe I should have waited and not been the first to express my lack of interest but I did.... ;)

Hey Dan - pucker up and kma

Posted by: Derek | Mar 2, 2007 11:22:41 AM

Toto: Your comment about the NFL Combines was interesting. About 15 years ago (or more) ABC News did a brief report about the combines, and I was shocked (and delighted) to see some of the young football players being weighed in only wearing jock straps. There are also rumors that older men with influence use these events to "get to know" the young athletes. I don't know how much truth there is in this, but I can just smell all that nineteen year old testosterone and...oh, but what do I care, I'm a queen. I ain't into that macho shit.

Posted by: Derrick from Philly | Mar 2, 2007 12:02:48 PM

The appeal is that he's an acceptional example of a man who is doing something with his life. So strange how men on this site tend to take people apart. Guess it's to make themselves feel a bit better.

If you want to feel better without putting out bad karma, read "The Seat of The Soul." It may be the answer to the reason why you need to take each other down.

Posted by: TP | Mar 3, 2007 12:19:07 PM

wow, didn't know that a homo lusting after a football player could be so controversial. the dude is a stud.

back to topic...anyone with an iota of gaydar...even without bruce weber's pix...can see that boy is gay...
