Big Brother 8 Gaywatch: Nick the Trick?
WARNING: SPOILERS
Nick Starcevic's activities (as edited by CBS for primetime) in the Big Brother 8 house have mainly consisted of striking up competing flirtatious relationships with some of the women, even strategically isolating one of them (Jen) among the other housemates by confronting her for making the false claim he was trying to kiss her.
Yet the BB8 internet feeds tell a slightly different tale. If he's not gay, then Nick appears to be doing a great job of at least placing that question in his housemates' minds. Nick's definitely a player, comfortable with allowing gay housemates Joe and Dustin to dry hump and massage him (below), respectively.
But the latest dish is the clip below in which Nick tells Zach and Dick that he has a "top 5" list of men with whom he would have sex. Later, he discussed the list with his "showmance" Danielle.
Sure, we like Ryan Reynolds too. Big Brother is, of course, a game of strategy, so the truth may be far from what we're seeing, but thankfully in the meantime what we're seeing is pretty easy on the eyes.

He's just acting like he's possibly gay-leaning so everyone in the house wants to have sex with him. He's just using sex to get people on his side. He's really smarmy and obviously will do anything can to get what he wants - even prostitute himself.

Other people who read this blog might not appreciate your coverage, but keep it coming. I'm a huge Big Brother fan and love hearing more about the gorgeous Nick and his willingness to appear gay, even if it is just for strategy. And he's a helluva lot cuter than that caveman Zach.

Nic is very doable. Im hoping to have him as my new baby daddy. However a strategy for him 2 pretend he gay or bi? I just dont see it. Maybe 2 win 500 hundred thousand one does have a hidden agenda. If so he has me fooled. Whatever the case maybe nic will always be the wind beneath my wings. Nic you had me at hello. The 500g will pay for a nice honeymoon and than some. Woohooh

Nick is a hottie for sure. I've never watched BB though...based on this 2 min clip..is the whole show like this? How can you guys watch this crap. No more interesting than I experience hanging out - live no less - with my own friends and BSing. I'm not quite getting this show I guess.

I hope that he's not gay. I think its even hotter that he's straight and he's just that comfortable with his sexuality. Ive had straight male friends like that, who just thrive on attention from anybody and are so secure with themselves that they're just open to anything. i think its incredibly hot.

Ian: That clip is from the live feeds, which is pretty much just like that. The actual show on television is much more edited and packaged with "storylines" and whatnot, like the Real World.

I have never watched any reality TV in my life (except for the first 2 seasons of Real World) but I had to check this out last night. Not usually one for TV crushes but this guy is spectacular. And interestingly enough he may flirt with the girls but he only touches the guys. I didn't think anything of it last night but today I wonder: When Jen lied about him trying to kiss her and he was incredulous. He said "you think I tried to kiss you? You are clueless." I have a feeling this guy is more gay than straight. But maybe that's just wishful thinking.

What's interesting here is the reaction of Zach and Dick - a typically 'laddish' way to assert their own masculinity by joking/mocking Nick...
I can't be sure, but towards the end of the clip, it seemed Zach and Dick's laughter was uncomfortable.
What is more upsetting, in my view, is that Nick doesn't re-assert himself (as in "so what?" "what's wrong?") Zach and Dick were accurate to some extend in calling Nick 'back-peddling' - if Nick had simply retorted or just be comfortably secure and nonchalant it would expose the standard insecurities of guys like Zach and Dick.

1. It's not upsetting that Nick is not "asserting" himself either way because he is playing a game. He's not being a spokesperson for anything.
2. He knows the cameras are on him all the time so why wouldn't he keep up the act? People will have to vote for him.
3. He's a player. He already has his looks going for him, now he needs a total angle. When it's revealed at the end that he is straight everybody will just laugh it off and agree that he is just playing the game.

I have a top five list of women, that doesn't make me straight.
Its funny that we're trying to make him gay and in doing so forget the very first thing we ever heard him say, which was, "I'm Nick, and I'm going to use this body as bait."
Like strippers at a gay club who claim to be "bisexual" when they are straight, Nick is playing the hot card to his advantage and it is working - he is the last person either Dustin or Joe would put on the block.
I'd rather do Mike the painter anyway.

I have the feeds and have been watching closely as all of this has unfolded. But I have to tell you two days ago I found Nick and his ambiguity completely loosing my interest. I reached saturation with the entire thing. So instead of watching Nick trying way to hard with the girls and the boys I have decided to direct my attention on Dustin. He is 100 times more interesting than a muscle boy overworking his angle.
And speaking of Dustin he has been less of a stereotype and more of a real person than Joe has... or Nick for that matter. So Andy, I love the coverage so far but maybe you could report on Dustin a little more.

Keep in mind that he's not just playing to the BB House Guests -- in past years, there have been at least one, if not more, competitions in which the audience has to vote for their favorite House Guest and that guest wins a prize. Janelle, who lost two years of Big Brother in a row (BB year 6, and BB year 7, All-Stars) won $10k as "audience favorite" by a vote of text messages and internet votes.
But I'm with Jonathan -- he wasn't just playing around with Jen when that whole lying thing went down. He was PISSED. Like, really insulted that she said that. And there have been NUMEROUS other references besides just the top-5 thing. For example, on the live feed the other night, someone was joking about with Nick about who the "lucky girl" would be that ended up with him, which is when he cuts in and says "or guy!"
Honestly, sometimes I think he acts like Danielle is his fag hag more than his "girlfriend."
