John Edwards Plays with His Hair
What really matters?
The Edwards campaign comments on why his $400 haircut shouldn't be what's focused on, using the anti-Vietnam war musical Hair. The messages gel quite effectively.

I agree with redneck. I loathe when politicos focus on some mundane, trivial thing while totally ignoring the major issues.
But, then again, I only see Republicans doing that.

I love the underlying message, too:
It's all drag!
Try as they might to paint Democrats as vain and purty, the Republicans are just as guilty of primping and styling and getting all dolled-up. The problem is, for them the beauty is entirely superficial.

I disagree...I like Edwards (he'll make a great veep candidate), and I certainly think the $400 haircut was massively overblown—what famous politician doesn't have silly expenses that could be just as easily lampooned? However, I think the ad is too cute for its own good and will go straight over the heads of the people it's intending to reach. I thought Hillary's YouTube ad was dead on—it has a humorous but feminist message that is much more focused. Obama's YouTube ad might as well be for TV—it misses the boat on the YouTube vibe. BTW, I loved the YouTube debate and I'd be thrilled with any of the three I mentioned as prez.

Honestly, I had completely forgotten all about "Hairgate" and had it not been for the explanation posted with it, I would have never known what this ad was about.

As long as John Edwards is against same sex marriage he can suck my dick!

This brilliant ad strikes a familiar chord to the youth of the 70's like me. For those too young to remember, the original "HAIR" was used to draw attention to the political and social issues of the 70's, especially the Vietnam war. How far we have come since that time! A seemingly endless war divides our country; our healthcare is in shambles; huge segments of the population are living below the poverty level, and our public schools are underfunded and overcrowded. How ironic it is that in the 30 some years since the song was released, the only thing that still matters is hair. Only the length has changed.
What a piece of work is man.

That's the only one of the "YouTube-style" ads offered to CNN/YouTube by the candidates that responded well to the challenge. It is, indeed, a brilliant ad. Although it failed, Hillary's ad at least tried to respond to the challenge. The others just offered standard 15-sec. TV ads.
It wouldn't make me more likely to vote for him (if I lived in a state where I'd have the chance), but it seems even more appropriate today as conservatives focus mostly on his Hillary's jacket comment and ignore everything else.

I don't know about you, Whatever, but my dick is far to precious to have it coated with his mealymouthed spew. Just be sure to wrap it up before you put it in, darlin.

Um, Whatever....since you're so opposed to Edwards because of his gay marriage position, perhaps you'll illuminate us with the name of a single electable candidate for Prez who has a different view?
Can't, can you? Nope. At least Edwards says he's struggling with the issue, which means he recognizes that his views are in conflict with basic equality. That's more than I can say for anybody in the entire Republican slate and most of the Democrats. And he says he's on a journey, which means there's room for evolution in his views. And we can hope that his wife, who does support gay marriage, will persuade him in time.
Meanwhile, since we don't have an electable candidate who supports marriage rights, how about someone who favors universal health care, fighting poverty, and combating the energy lobby? If all you're going to vote with is your dick, then do the rest of us a favor and keep it in your pants and out of the polling place.
