Morrissey Has it Out for Madonna

An angry Morrissey reportedly slammed Madonna at his concert last night in Norfolk, Virginia: "I wouldn't be surprised if she [Madonna] made that African boy into a coat and wore him ... for 15 minutes, and then threw it away." He also told the crowd, "You haven't even heard what I'm gratified about yet. I'm very gratified to be so close to the international headquarters of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals."

its sad when washed up "artists" go after successful artists for a lil bit of publicity....i wanna see him adopt a baby and give it a better life,,, sad thing is: MORRISEY IS MISERABLE HIMSELF, HE COULD NEVER MAKE SOMEONE ELSE HAPPY!
Posted by: ventura | Jul 12, 2007 11:09:31 AM
Good for him. I'm tired of celebrities turning kids into accessories. Madonna jumped on the "adopt a third world kid" bandwagon like a rehash of an Ab Fab episode. Speaking of washed up artists, I guess we'll be seeing Madonna working with, hmm, High School Musical next?
That being said, PETA has turned into a laughingstock. They used to have some integrity, now they're like every other hipster group trying to get noticed for being edgy.
So in closing, say what you will about Morrissey, at least he never tried aping an English accent he wasn't entitled to, didn't sample religions like pigs in a blanket at Costco, and didn't go to Africa and purchase a kid.
Posted by: SPOT | Jul 12, 2007 11:26:57 AM
well said, spot.
Posted by: kurt | Jul 12, 2007 11:36:42 AM
personally, i couldn't give two shits about madonna (or morrissey for that matter) but to say that she's aping an english accent is abusrd. for one thing, if she is, she's doing a horrible job of it. for another, she has a british husband and lives in britain, why is it so bizarre then for her speach to (naturally) change as a result? and don't even get me started on the "entitled to" - jesus christ, what the hell does that even mean?

Well said indeed, Spot, well said indeed.

To claim Madonna adopted a child as part of a fad is stupid. It's not as quick and lazy a fix as, say, commenting on someone's blog post with a nickname or slagging off a superstar for a quick joke. Children are not accessories, crucifixes are. Actually, Madonna and Morrissey would probably vote the same way on most issues...it's a pity he would take a moment to try tearing her a new asshole when he could be spending more time making sure no one confuses him with an ultra-nationalist. THAT said, I used to like PETA, but when they attacked Michael Moore for being fat as a way of drawing attention away from human suffering because animal suffering is AS important, they lost me completely.
Posted by: Matthew Rettenmund | Jul 12, 2007 11:57:17 AM
To call Morrissey "washed up" is a little bit ridiculous. Do you realize the cult following he has on the west coast, primarily with immigrants who can identify with old Smith's tunes? Do your research. I think it's fair to say Morrissey has had the life changing effect on millions, as the voice of irony, sarcasm, and teen angst for miilions.
And he is 100% right about Madonna, and all these other celebrities that go Abroad and bring how their very own living, breathing Gucci bag. And every picture you see of that kid she adopted is with his nanny. How sad to think this boys life is nothing but a PR stunt.
Posted by: teevee | Jul 12, 2007 11:59:50 AM
Honestly, that is the dumbest bit of stirring the pot I have ever heard. I'm sure Madonna doesn't give a s**t about Morrissey's opinion as no one else does. While he's more than entitled to it, it's just a little infantile to attack someone publicly like that who has never given you any reason to. He needs to grow up.
Posted by: MT | Jul 12, 2007 12:04:58 PM
i totally agree. his life would have been so much better in malawi. it's a wonderful place, especially when you're (effectively) an orphan. how dare she provide him with an incredible education, an entourage to look after him and several homes in marylebone to call his home! bitch.

Yeah, so does Clay Aiken.

"How sad to think this boys life is nothing but a PR stunt."
....what's even more tragic is that YOU actually believe it is!...just be another sheep to hop on the train of "hate" I guess.
As for Morrissey - waaa waaa waaa - I'm miserable and gloomy and hate life. Yeah, that's exactly why other whiney teenagers like listening to him b/c they want to wallow in misery rather than cope. Emo kids should wash the black eyeliner off and just cut their wrists already

Yeah, Madonna was dumb to adopt that boy. But then again, Morrissey flirted so much with the skinhead/white supremacy b.s. in his early solo career ("National Front Disco", "Suedehead") that I can't believe he has the balls to talk about ANYTHING. So I guess the only lesson worth learning here is that celebrities are self-obsessed morons. Carry on.

Nasty! PETA = People Easily Too Angry
Posted by: anon (gmail.com) | Jul 12, 2007 12:10:45 PM
He's just a hasbeen trying to get attention. I personally think Madonna should have disappeared 10 years ago and would go to neither one of their concerts. They both suck.
Posted by: Aw! | Jul 12, 2007 12:16:31 PM
Um...You know, it wasn't so long ago that Morrissey was going on about how drab and trivial pop music is and how terrible artists like Madonna and Janet Jackson are. THEN I caught him at the Drowned World Tour where he had a FRONT ROW seat! Don't get me wrong, I have all The Smiths records and a lot of Morrissey's, but when he starts shit like this I just want to slap the shit out of him. Hey Morrissey, FUCK OFF!

morrisey is such a bitch, can't stand him
Posted by: maxi | Jul 12, 2007 12:27:49 PM
Oh, and one more thing, was that a segue from talking about making the boy into a coat then talking about PETA??? Me thinks he's been drinking before taking the stage! cheeky monkey!
Posted by: JR | Jul 12, 2007 12:29:00 PM
first of all, i am a HUGE madonna fan, and have also really enjoyed morrissey's music over the years. however, i think his attack on her for the fur-thing (when by ALL reports i've read, madonna doesn't even wear real fur...), and (even more significant) the adoption of that little boy, is ignorant, uninformed and pathetic. that goes for Teevee and Spot as well! let me ask you how many lives of neglected children in this country or in others have either of you attempted to change? how utterly simple-minded to comment about what you assume her (or anyone else's) reasons for adopting a child and giving him or her a better life,to be! even if it WAS for publicity, SO WHAT!!!! the kid will definitely not have to worry about his survival. GROW UP....
Posted by: stevie | Jul 12, 2007 12:42:04 PM
You are spot on "Spot". I used to like Madonna a whole lot. But, these days, she is so effing weird. You said it right man!
Posted by: Rod | Jul 12, 2007 12:42:11 PM
I couldn't agree with Morrissey more! Compairing Morrissey and Modonna's careers artistically is funny, really. Madonna's "music" has little artistic value, compared to her artistic media persona that has been very good for her financially. I question if this child is all part of her ever changing persona that she has been marketing since her career began. Having an adopted baby from Africa is cool these days, and with her increasing age, lack of musical and acting appeal this is a way to stay in to stay in the media's attention. What's the big deal if Mossissey rattles a bit of attention on the issue? She can handle it, in fact I'll bet she likes it.
Posted by: Jes Wonderin' | Jul 12, 2007 1:04:01 PM
you know when you're adult your accent doesn't change when you move to a foreign country. that's only when you're a child. so the fact that madonna would adopt an accent in her 40's is a bit much.
Posted by: muffinass | Jul 12, 2007 1:39:53 PM
Yes Morrissey is a whiny bitch but boy can he write wonderful lyrics, Madonna on the other hand...

Love PETA
Hate Morrissey (whoever the hell he is)
Hate Bitchy queens complaining about celebrities who adopt from 3rd world nations

boys, boys, boys...Madonna vs. Morrissey = apples vs. oranges. Grow up. They're different. AGAIN, Morrissey taking a shot at her for something that he doesn't really have a position to be commenting on (has he raised any kids? except of course for all the outcasts that relate to his music? - me included. OR stopped whining long enough to consider adopting? NO, he hasn't). I'd almost appreciate it more if he would attack her music, but AGAIN, the shit is DIFFERENT. Morrissey is really just this generation's Elton John. Old bitter queen.

I'm about as interested in people that listen to Madonna as I am carbuncles. No talent, can't write a tune without a producer and even then it's tired, no class, vacant, illiterate, media whore cunt. Oh and for those of you that dig her. You do realize you are what in industry parlance they refer to as the Lowest Common Denominator. You can call it LCD if that's too many letters.
And that's hardly the worst thing he's said about her.

Actually, Muffinass, you're wrong. My mom is not a native speaker of English and she learned it living in London so she had an accent that had a distinctly British accent to it for years. It gradually faded and now she speaks English like an average American. People's accents really are a product of their environment.
Posted by: MT | Jul 12, 2007 2:50:11 PM
Bitter (Detached), party of one, your table is ready. So much hatred for someone you probably don't even know. I bet you're thrilled about the Spice Girls' reunion though, huh? And maybe Madonna fans are LCD in your opinion, but I bet they know how not to double post drivel. Cheers!
Posted by: JR | Jul 12, 2007 3:15:38 PM
WOW "Detached"! you sound a bit bitter. some displaced aggression, i'd say. you should see someone about that. and for someone who is so disinterested in madonna, you certainly took time out of your obviously busy day to post the same rant about madonna TWICE within a minute! shouldn't you be off listening to music and artists that are more "significant"? and btw, this post was originally about the stupid comments morrissey made about madonna's adoption of her new son. no one cares what you think of her music...

Right from the outset Morrissey has enjoyed winding people up, this is no different.
From a 2004 interview:
Even now he's dogged by statements he made years ago, like the time he told the NME "reggae is vile", despite being a reggae fan."I said reggae is wild," he protests.
No he didn't. But did he say it just to wind up the right-on 1980s NME? "Yes, I did. And God knows it works. Let's not underestimate our power to wind up."
Posted by: John C | Jul 12, 2007 4:01:20 PM
Some thoughts:
1. You don't have to raise a kid to know that swooping in to Africa, taking a few days to pick out "the right" kid (one that matches her hair I assume), is wrong.
2. "i totally agree. his life would have been so much better in malawi. it's a wonderful place, especially when you're (effectively) an orphan. how dare she provide him with an incredible education"
Yes, all the other orphans totally agree. If she (and the rest of the rent-a-kid celebrities) really cared, they'd FUND those orphanages. It costs about $10 a day per kid to give those kids a great chance at a good life. Chump change for today's idol rich. And yes, that's deliberate spelling.
3. I'll never understand people who worship Madonna. Any celebrity really, but Madonna in particular. Empty, just empty. Maybe that's why she's gone through so many identities. Can't grow crops if there's no dirt. But that's not anything special among the celebritocracy.

"you know when you're adult your accent doesn't change when you move to a foreign country. that's only when you're a child."
This is incorrect. I believe you're thinking of people who move to a country where a different language is spoken. (For example, an American who moves to France will never speak English with a French accent.)
However, an American who moves to the UK will surely pick up some of the cadences, intonations and pronounciation of British English. This is obvious to anyone who has spent an extended period of time overseas. (For example, have you noticed how Cary Elwes no longer has an English accent?)
And regarding this feud between Madonna and Morissey: this is all shameful talk, all of you, and clearly tainted by your personal opinions on Madonna and Morissey themselves. The truth of the matter is, a man has verbally and publicly attacked a woman who has nothing to do with him, and whose personal life is none of his business. If these were ordinary people we would have berated the man for it. I think what Morissey said completely lacked class.
Besides, I don't think Morissey should be one to talk, since over the years he has exploited his fame and whipped up publicity every bit as much as Madonna has.

Morrissey is a washed up piece of shit. Who cares what he thinks or what he says at some sad little concert he had. Madonna has done more good for Africa and AIDS charities than almost any other artist and continues to do so. I don't even know what Morrissey supports, mostly because he is hardly famous enough to show up in pop culture. Fuck him and fuck his comments.
Posted by: Went | Jul 12, 2007 5:03:11 PM
oh, he's just angry cause he sends his 32 cents a day to a kid in a 3rd world country and all he got was a lousy picture.
Posted by: Vince | Jul 12, 2007 6:26:32 PM
Spot, I think you're terribly misguided about Madonna. First of all, who gives a flying fuck what a person's accent is and where it comes from? If she wants to speak with a southern accent today and in tongues tomorrow, why is it anyone's business but her own? Nobody is entitled to any one accent for any reason. After all, she does live in England with an English husband and English child surrounded by the English public.
If she chooses to adopt a child from an orphanage in Malawi, she is certainly doing him a favor. He is, after all, an orphan. There is no doubt that this kid will be offered a far better life than being raised in that orphanage. And to dismiss this deed as though it were the latest trend and a public relations stunt is absolutely ludicrous. Do you really know what she is thinking?

morrissey's a bigger bitch than madonna, and that's really saying something. madonna may be alot of things, but at least she's not a downer, he's just a giant black cloud. his "burden of genius" schtick is quite the tired virus.
Posted by: A.J. | Jul 12, 2007 7:08:32 PM
I don't even know who Morrissey is (unless we're talking designer fashion) but Madonna, on the other hand, everyone knows who she is! Seeing as there are so many Madonna fans posting on this site, perhaps you can tell me who she slept with to get into the music industry because she certainly has no creative ability in terms of singing or dancing. In fact, her music was a lot more popular in the 80's because everyone was distracted by her cone-tits and other slutty looks. Now she's all earth mother or what ever freak look she's into now and people are finally starting to HEAR her voice (or lack thereof) rather than just enjoy her on-stage gesticulations. Why is she even still in the headlines? She hasn't made any music in ages which is a blessing I suppose. Quite pointless really.

OMG I was going to comment until I read ALL the comments. Mark M is right, a bunch of jaded, nasty queens.
I find it interesting that the majority of the posters and Morrissey have most likely done a lot less when compared to the charitable causes celebrities and the wealthy such as Madonna have supported. People are confusing her intent (and I find it extremely interesting that everyone here expends upon what Madonna's intentions must be as though they were in her head or know her personally) with her actions. As long as her actions are positive and lasting, who cares if she is attempting to pull a "Joan Crawford" in adopting for a little publicity? She IS giving that child a better life than what he would have led as an orphan in a troubled country.
It's easy to spew venom and grab [negative] attention. It IS even harder to do something positive with your life and try to enrich the lives of others. Actions speak louder than words, and NO ONE here can attest to what Madonna's intentions are, but her actions say quite a lot more positive than Morrissey. So spew away Morrissey (and the rest of the negative commentators), people like Madonna are doing a lot more for the betterment of humanity than the lot of you (how many concerts has she performed as for free for charitable causes? How much has she donated of her time and money? Any one here match that? Any one? Bueller?). :rolls eyes:

When was the last time Madonna has done anything for our community? Her religion is against homosexuals, I have not respect for her at all. She is not talented, can't sing, can't write a tune and doesn't do anything for me. PERIOD! This year she is releasing a new hip/hop album??? please..how much money did she pay timbeland or wherever his name is to please write all the so called hip hop tunes???? Morrisey isn't someone who I admire either..both of them do nothing for our community.

You know what irks me, is people who complain about things they aren't involved in. First off, how many of us on this post are adopting kids? Second, how many of us are famous. Pure empirical goofiness, trying to even be like "they" are. How can famous rich people wind us up.
Posted by: Gabby | Jul 14, 2007 2:57:06 AM
To say that Madonna adopted a kid as strictly a PR move is insane. Morrissey, I haven't heard about him in ages. Who knew he was even still alive? I guess when you are trying to be seen as relevant, you must resort to the same tactics as Elton John and more recently, the talentless hack Lily Allen, and that is to slag others off.
Call a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaambulance for all the crying going on.
