road.jpg Elton John and Madonna make up after years of feuding: "At an awards show in 2004 Elton John famously said, 'Madonna, best fucking live act? Fuck off! Since when has lip-synching been live? That's me off her fucking Christmas card list but do I give a toss? No.' And that comment started their pepaw feud which ended last night when Elton introduced Madonna. Elton said, 'This is a moment you thought you would never see.' Then they hugged, bumped vaginas and Madonna said, He had 'written a grovelling apology and offered to join the Kabbalah.'"

Juniorroad.jpg Junior: Brazil to get national gay magazine in the mold of OUT and Tetu to run quarterly. MIB: "The magazine developed by the guys from Mix Brasil is fun, informative, nicely edited, and most important, groundbreaking at a certain level. There are references to international publications here and there, such as an editorial I have seen before at Genre originally shot by Mr. Oppesidano, but that is natural and will probably happen until Junior finds its own identity and connects to its reader. There is also beautiful photography and editorial work: the feature on Brazilian dancers is superb, and so are the pictures of 18-year-old newcomer Lucas Pitione, who also graces the cover of the first issue."

road.jpg Scientists win approval for human-animal hybrid embryos: "The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority published its long-awaited public consultation on the controversial research yesterday, revealing that a majority of people were "at ease" with scientists creating the hybrid embryos. Researchers want to create hybrid embryos by merging human cells with animal eggs, in the hope they will be able to extract valuable embryonic stem cells from them. The cells form the basic building blocks of the body and are expected to pave the way for revolutionary therapies for diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and even spinal cord injuries."

road.jpg CLIP: The Killers, Live from Abbey Road: "The entire episode will be broadcast on Thursday, September 6 at 10 p.m. EST on the Sundance Channel. It will also include acoustic sets by Gnarls Barkley and The Feeling."

road.jpg Anderson Cooper covers the Jena Six story: "For those that are just hearing about this for the first time, 6 high school students are facing felony attempted murder charges for a fight that ended a series of incidents in Louisiana. A day after a group African-American students asked to sit under a "whites-only" tree in the courtyard, three nooses were hung from the tree in response. Over the course of the next few months, a wing of the school was burned, black students were beatened and threatened, and the District Attorney was called in to quell the violence. What the DA did next should be shocking to most, and shows just how far we have to go to see real racial equality in America."

  1. Looking at the link on the Jena 6 story, it appears that
    1. the quoted text is from the Daily Kos, not Anderson's blog
    2. the coverage in the blog is by another CNN correspondent, not Cooper.

  2. WTG Anderson Cooper,or whoever it is for keeping this story alive, keep doing the hard news about what life really is like in this alleged "democracy." The two sided way people are treated based on skin color and gender orientation is as backwards as it comes, and, the oppressors always seem to be GOP since I would bet the farm that everyone who is in this Jena case deciding what the penalties are is registered as such.

  3. wondering why anybody anywhere would bother to risk publishing a gay magazine, when blogs like Towleroad are paving the way to alternative and contemporary gay publishing.
however if the gay magazines' sole aim is to feature under/swim wear and abs then good luck to 'em.

  4. If Torchwood is any bit as good and flaky as Doctor Who, we are in for a real treat. The Brits do Sci-fi with a heart and with tongue in cheek. Anyone who hasn't seen Dr. Who is missing great fun. The stories are often wild and exuberant, as well as touching.

  5. Sorry to see the "mold" of magazines for Dick Zombies like OUT spreading to other countries. Doesn't South America already have some gay jerk off rags? Haven't we done enough to the world with global warming, crap I mean rap, Putrid Hilton, and George Bush?

  6. This horrible Jena Six story has been a hot topic for weeks now. Yet, and please correct me if I'm wrong, I don't remember ever seeing any coverage of this story here on Towleroad. (I did a search and found nothing.) But now that Anderson Cooper has reported on it, it's newsworthy?

  7. Cheryl Spector will be missed.

  8. Sadly, Torchwood became unwatchable by the end of series 1. It's like a group of already half-competent slash fiction writers got stoned. The characters have no continuity of 'character' from one episode to the next. BBC needs to take it back to the drawing board. Russell T Davies doesn't have the bandwidth to babysit Dr Who, Torchwood and the other projects he's got bubbling away.

  9. soulbrotha please be understanding....

I am not sure if it was Anderson cooper's report and or my sending a link last night to the DKos diary on it that got Andy here at towleroad to report on the JENA6.

Whatever it was, we should be greateful.

    Thankyou ANDY

This case needs to be broadcast everywhere to force the MSM to report on it. BBC reported on it way back in May while the US media lags far behind.

It just means those of us who know about this case need to roll up our sleeves a little hgiher and press on to spread the info far and wide and drag the US media kicking and screaming into reporting it.

    I understand your frustration Soulbrotha

Thank you again ANDY for reporting on it.

My fellow homosexuals if civil rights cases don't poull on your heart strings then just think about what the town of JENA would do to us if they do these things to heterosexual african americans! We as a community should be paying attention , helping out where we can, donating to the legal fund for these boys, etc.

  11. I am happy to see mention of the Jena 6 story anywhere. Andy might be a little later (yet, ironically, still earlier than most mass media sources), but a little goes a long way.

    oh, and *swoon* Anderson Cooper.

I hope this gay Brazilian mag doesn't perpetuate Brazil's backwards flowing identity crisis. You know, that apparently a nation one of the largest(if not the) population of people of color outside of the African continent and only the white-skinned ones are sexualized or celebrated in the national and world media? I used to love that blog MADE IN BRAZIL, but looking at it gave me the impression Brazil's solely a nation of plastic looking Portuguese people who abandoned ship from the mothercountry.
Brazil--and it's gay population--deserves better than the examples made by it's hetero population and the U.S.' gay popular magazines.

  13. Madonna should have totally kicked Elton's ass for dissin' her like he's been doing. He's just a bitter old queen, and jealous, no doubt.

Just shows that if she's forgiven him how much of a bigger person she is now, and how much the Kabbalah has helped her, cause there was a time there would have been a MAJOR cat fight, and she would have won, hands down.
