News: David Beckham, Nellie's, Condoleezza Rice, Chris Crocker
Condoleezza Rice denied audience with Pope Benedict over U.S. foreign policy: "The US secretary of state Condoleeza Rice indicated to the Vatican that she urgently needed to meet Benedict XVI. She was on her way back into the viper’s nest of the Middle East and it would have been no bad thing to meet her counterparts with the credentials of a papal audience. Ms Rice had hoped that the audience could be fixed for early August at Castelgandolfo, the papal summer residence, when Benedict XVI returned from Lorenzago in the Dolomites, but she was told the Pope was on holiday. She insisted but to no avail. Vatican diplomats were adamant and 'Benedict XVI is on holiday' continued to be the official reply."

Hot java: One Venti Beckhammato, please...
Lesbian activist Robin Tyler calls on Arnold Schwarzenegger's lesbian chief-of-staff Susan Kennedy to resign: "I am not only extremely disappointed in the Governor's lack of courage, but am especially disappointed in Susan Kennedy, his chief of staff, whose "same gender wedding" I attended in Hawaii several years ago. Since I attended Susan's wedding, why is she so against attending mine? Both Arnold and Susan know that it is unconstitutional for the majority to deny a minority equal protection under the law."
Chris Crocker inks reality "docu-soap" deal: "It's going to pretty much be the 'Chris Crocker experience. We consider him a rebel character that people will find interesting. He's going to be a TV star."
Kathy Griffin engaged to Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak?
Pop star Mika threatened with lawsuit over name, by Belgian reggae artist Mika: "I was called Mika before him and have registered the name. Even though his real name is Mica, I think he should change it."

The Washington Post takes a look at gay D.C. sports bar Nellie's: "What sounds like a gay slur isn't: Nellie's pays homage to Schantz's great- and great-great-grandmothers, both named Nellie, one of whom is captured in sepia-toned photographs on the wall. True to its theme, the sports bar sticks to showing games on its TV monitors and displaying tennis rackets, oars and trophies as decorations; the bathroom sinks once wet the hands of spectators at Washington's old Griffith Stadium."
Sydney police accused of ignoring gay bashing: "The officer told me how stressful the court process would be and said, ‘Do you realise that nine out of 10 gay men don’t report incidents because they are afraid?’ I said I wanted to press charges anyway, and they said, ‘The men are only going to get off free.’"

RE Kathy Griffin and The Woz: I wonder if it will be a Christian ceremony?

Yay for Kathy! Talk about poetic justice.

While I'm no fan of Pope Benny, I applaud him for the Condoleeza diss!
And, way to go Robin Tyler, keep on telling and calling them out on their hypocrisy and self hate.
I don't know who Mika is, but, what a odd ball, change your name for her?

Oh Dear
Again, Chris honey what’s with that hair?
All I can say is that Chris is the wreck of Ozzie Osbourne’s crazy train.

David Beckham should know better than to wear brown shoes with a black suit.
Posted by: Mike | Sep 19, 2007 1:05:27 PM
When that suit is draped over something as fine as David Beckham, who cares about the color of his shoes? Dudes that hot can wear whatever they want. :-)

I think for Nellie's to be truly considered a sports bar they need a few more TVs to watch the games. The 3 or 4 they currently have are not enough. Decent beer selection though.

Has Beck's voice changed yet? Last I heard he sounded like one of the girls in Bend It Like Beckham.

You would think that being denied an audience with a Nazi like Ratzinger would inform the Bushies that they are a menace to the world. Unfortunately, no. What's that phrase? Oh yeah, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Yeah, Nellie's claims at being a sports bar are really tenuous at best.

The police in Australia must be out of their mind. The victim should take things higher up. Ridiculous! Oh and David B...So overated!! I'd take le français Frederic Michalak over him any day. The full lips, the thighs, the neck. He'd look better suited up than that two pounds Beckham. Yep!

Oh man...Becks is fucking BEAUTIFUL. Thanks, Andy!!! :-)
Now, about yet another Mika post...

Kathy Griffin rocks.

Chris Crocker, soon to be another famous-for-being-famous vapid ADD-media celebrity. In a year he'll be taking Kathy G's spot on the D list. At least he'll know from the start he only 'made it big' by crying.
Posted by: givemeabreak | Sep 19, 2007 6:11:47 PM
I love that Chris finally got his own show. He reminds me of myself of a few years ago, before the proper medication. It should be interesting to watch the meltdown on tv.
David Beckham can pretty much wear whatever the hell he wants to and be supermodel hot (and knows it).
The thing I love the MOST about Kathy Griffin's news is the look that will be on Barbara Walter's face when they announce the engagement. PRICELESS!

I think Nellie's is as sports bar as any gay bar can be. I've yet to see one do it better. And they have plenty of TVs. They have three or four upstairs alone and that area isn't even that big. Though putting David Beckham on one TV across from Tammy Fay Bakker's death coverage on another TV is just cruel. It was like watching a tennis match...the gays had no idea which TV to look at.
The outdoor space is incredible too. There is simply not enough of that in DC. And when they do something with it, it'll be great. It's everything JRs should be and isn't.
I also got laid from going there like the first night I ever went. If that isn't reason enough to like it...
