Hillary "3 am" Ad Inspires Response, Parody, Charges of Plagiarism

So, you likely remember the Hillary Clinton "3am" ad (above, left) which her campaign began airing last week. The spot, meant to highlight Clinton's experience in national security, was charged by many to be blatant fear-mongering, and inspired a quick verbal response from Barack Obama. His campaign also quickly put together a "response" ad entitled "ringing" (above, right).

Given the YouTube age we're in, there was no doubt going to be a parody of the ad. You can see it, "3:02 am", below left. And how could we move on without a charge of plagiarism? There are also charges that the Clinton campaign "borrowed" the idea from a McCain YouTube supporter who created the video below, right, and posted it to YouTube during the first week of January.

Here's another parody ad, which John Aravosis at AmericaBlog thinks is the ad Hillary should have done:

Anyone else looking forward to when we wake up at 7am and finally have a nominee?

  1. I'll be glad when Tuesday, March 4 comes and goes. Maybe then Democrats will begin the reconciliation process. Conservatives are having a ball watching Democrats fight each other. Hell, they need to start worrying about their candidate: an admirable old man who often can't remember where he is.

  2. Bill clinton wasn't the nominee until the month of June.

BUT Richardson this weekend summed up what the party powers and unpledgd supers will do.

He said on FTN that tuesday is D-Day and the clear delegate lead is the nominee, the party has to go positive from there, and the person with less delegates drops out.

Richardson is a HUGE friend of the clintons. He owes much of his later day carrers to them. With Hillary down by between 135-156 delegates (depending on what source you use) ...........................Uhm, he either has gone way off the reservation or the powers that be in the party have agreed that enough is enough after tomorrow.

There have even been rumors over at DKos that if Hillary is down after Tuesday and doesn't drop out then GORE and Nancy Pelosi will step in heading the party leaders and publicly force her out. A drawnout primary season after tuesday only helps McCain. The dems need to coalesce around a candidate and go on the offensive against McCain.

  4. PS

Over at Huffpo there is an article about how hillary's camp is no longer contacting unpledged super delegates. They are instead focused on contactng their already pledged delegates and trying to stop them from defecting after tomorrow.

  5. Why is Hillary Clinton wearing a pantsuit at 3 AM?

  6. The Richardson interview was revealing. Even if Obama suffers a small loss in Ohio and/or Texas, numerically he will still lead in elected delegates. Has anyone noticed that Bill Clinton has not been in any TV coverage this past week?

  7. Yeah Jack

Even a 10% win in Ohi and a tie in Tx oly gives her an extra 14 delegates

She nees 65% wins in Ohio and Tx to break even so what Richardson said was huge. Especialy sice he is grat friends with the clintons.

  9. More proof too many people show signs that mentally they were born yesterday. The Clinton ad was created by the same man who created a similar ad for Walter Mondale when he was competing against Gary Hart for the nomination TWENTY FOUR fucking YEARS ago. It's known in the biz as "the red phone ad" because Mondale's version focused on same. Another difference is that his ad specifically mentioned Hart by name.

Also, comparisons with the "Daisy" ad are disingenuous at best. That legendary ad suggested that a nuclear Armageddon could result if Barry Goldwater were elected because, however much he mellowed in later years, at the time he was a virulent hawk with an itcy nuclear button trigger finger.

The Clinton ad simply suggests that Obama would not be as prepared as she is to deal with a crisis. Of course, it was silly of her to not realize that all he would have to do would be hold the phone up to the soundtrack of the latest video circle jerk and upon hearing brainwashed thousands chant OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA the crisis would automatically calm itself and we would all wake up the next morning with silver dollars under our pillows with Obama's image on them.

  10. Gee, Michael, thanks for the history lesson. I wasn't aware of the mondale/lbj parallels because I haven't visited a single news website or watched a single news channel in the past 72 hours. This is totally news to me.

It's pretty simple. Hillary's desperate, so she's playing the fear card. For somebody who was once whining about Obama using the 'rove playbook', this is kinda rich.

  11. Well the Obama campaign are obviously still concerned about Plagerism charges on their part which is why they grasp at any straw to deflect.
BUT the whole CHANGE theme was lifted from Clinton supporter James Carvelle who pushing the Dems to make that the charge since 2006. So I guess a case of plagerism needs to be made on this as well.

  12. Regardless of what happens tomorrow, I think Hillary should stay in. I have a feeling that well before August Obamamania will have ended and people will be feeling mighty foolish about their infatuation the One. Eventually, the "morning after" will dawn, and they'll wake up and turn over and see who's in bed next to them, minus the Obama kool-aid goggles, and they'll realize he's not all that cute.
