Finalists Announced for VMan/Ford Models Model Search

Finalists

So, these are the three finalists for the VMan/ Ford Models model search.

One contestant laments: "Ultimately, though, the final decision of picking three finalists (from a pool of over 1000) came down to industry professionals. Let me just say that I am not bitter at their decision. It is what it is. And it is symptomatic of the fashion industry in this moment... supposedly. They picked three white boys from Ohio, Alabama and Tennessee, all in their teens, all 6'1"...My mother responded 'they all look like druggies' when shown their pictures. 'Crack, Meth and Budweiser' responded someone else. They all share a sort of scrawny muscular bad boy not intimidating types who could be spotted on a street corner in a hoodie, smoking a cigarette..."

Given the homogeneity of the finalists, and the cornucopia of beauty in these pages, one wonders why anybody might bother next time around.

The finalists are winging their way to L.A. for a shoot with Hedi Slimane this weekend.

  1. Actually I find these guys very hot ... I would spray a load on any of them. Isn't it sad how even gay guys find the need to justify and explain their own particular sexual tastes (and criticize those of others). That's the kind of moralizing best left to our enemies.

  2. I'd rather see natural looking models than obviously steroid infested juice pigs. That being said, who needs models who look 8 years old.

  4. The only thing that irritates me about this gay men's blog is the fact that it tends to promote beefy, muscular gay men and bears over other body types and even ages. There's a sort of ongoing snideness towards anything resembling (no matter how remotely) the "twink".

I've often wondered (and I've been reading this blog a long time) if this is primarily just a reflection of the author's sexual tastes.

In any case I find it sort of disenchanting. There's nothing wrong with lanky, blond, white boys without a lot of body hair.

I don't have a variety of examples to showcase because it's been a continuing trend throughout the years I've been reading. However I do remember a while back pondering why the big muscle man from Project Runway gets so much attention, but not Christian... aside from the videos or comments about his "trademark" catch phrase fierce.

  5. Mike, I agree with you. What bothers me about these boys is that they, well, look like boys. Kind of reminds me of that Calvin Klein campaign with the faux 70's porn set -- it just skeeved me out.

The thing that bothers me most about these three photos is the vacant looks on their faces. It makes them look stupid and/or drugged out. Neither is an attractive feature to me.

And I think gay men have body issues not only because of the muscle thing but also because of the skinnier types that are cropping up more and more -- ok maybe it's just my issue.

I think many body types to be sexy but what this contest shows is that they do not. Three identical types. Boring.

  6. Same, same, and same. It's amazing to me that an industry as creative as the fashion industry has zero imagination when it comes to models. They always seem to be from the same generic mold.

  7. Are they even 18? To each his own, but, they are beyond 'boyish' looking and kind of creepy, but, that's fashion I guess.

  8. they choose the boys that sell shirts

    they have no political motivations

if other body types sold hoodies, they'd be all over it

    fashion is a business.

[abercrombie sales are up while the u.s. is in a retail slump]

  9. Cornucopia of beauty? A quick view of the top 20 leads me to think many of their friends and relatives were voting, some are not model material. Whilst I don't like the model trend of young and skinny = beauty, the first two boys are definitely model material with great facial bone structure. The third picture is too far away.

  10. ITS SO WEIRD HOW THE FASHION INDUSTRYS' FETISHES AFFECT SOCIETY IN GENERAL.

WHEN I FIRST CAME OUT IF YOU DIDN'T LOOK LIKE A WEHO WILLIAM HIGGINS PORN MODEL YOU WERE TRULY OSTRACIZED. THERE I WAS A CURLY HAIRED LIGHT SKINNED BLACK GUY. I GOT IGNORED AND EXCLUDED SO MUCH THAT MY SELF WORTH WAS AS LOW AS A WORMS DICK IN MY MIND. ONLY WHEN I DISCOVERED BATHHOUSES WHERE DICK SIZE WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING DID I START FEELING BETTER ABOUT MYSELF.

YEAH, DRINK IN THAT STATEMENT MY FELLOW HOMOS!

I FEEL SORRY FOR THE NON-WHITE, NO-SKINNY KIDS COMING OUT NOW. I SEE TWINKS OUT AT THE CLUBS WITH THE SAME SMUG LOOKS ON THERE FACES AS THE WEHO TYPES USED TO HAVE THAT MADE ME FEEL SO BAD.

OF COURSE WE ALL KNOW THAT YOU NEED TO HAVE SELF RESPECT BLAH BLAH BLAH BUT I JUST FEEL FOR THE KIDS WHO DON'T LOOK LIKE THIS. OTHER THAN THAT NO REAL POINT TO MAKE.

  11. Sounds like a bunch of haters here (as usual). Some guys (like myself) are just naturally small and don't gain weight, and are xtremely youthful looking. So, if that's what the fashion world loves, so be it. It's only cause that's what sells.

And yes, some guys do have eating disorders as well as drug problems, but that's nothing new to the fashion world either. As long as you're thin and cute, they forgive you anything. Try giving them a break. Do you know how hard it is to find size 27 or 28" waist pants?

  12. Rescued from the front lines in Bosnia...

  13. Oh the irony of a despised minority having its own despised minorities.... You don't need help from Fred Phelps and co when you can hate each other.

I'll be the sarcastic Brit and note the additional irony of people from a nation with an epidemic of obesity complaining that others look too thin or underfed.

  14. Just My Type - rock on! These kids are hot - and of course they don't look like most people - they're models, and 100 times healthier than fatties pretending that fat is normal. Skip that cheeseburger bitches and get to a gym, and if you're not genetically gifted, that's fine - find something else that makes you sexy - there's a type for everyone. But don't dis out of childish jealousy, specially when you cholesterol is through the roof and you wheeze when you're climbing stairs.

That being said, it wouldn't hurt if there was a bit of diversity in the bunch... Even A&F has non-white models from time to time.

  15. As I get older, the more true the phrase 'there's someone for everyone' becomes to me. These guys aren't my cup of tea, but hey...someone likes them, and that's great. And they're really not THAT thin.

  16. It's good to know that the firm of White, White and Morewhite is still going strong.

    Posted by: Giovanni | May 20, 2008 4:48:37 PM

  17. Diversity? Fashion? You're kidding right?? Never going to happen since people of color don't buy clothes from these alleged designers!

    Posted by: Marc | May 20, 2008 5:58:30 PM

  18. It's not that they aren't pretty, it's that they look ill. Friends don't let friends become anorexic.

Now, how many people here who are so upset their taste isn't validated would stay quiet if Andy dared to show bald/short/fat/old models? Oh wait, that's never going to happen...

    Posted by: anon | May 20, 2008 6:06:44 PM

  19. How ANY of you could think the second and especially the first guy are anorexic is beyond me. I find the first one extremely hot, and desperately wish I had a body as nice as his. Yes the third one is thin, but so what?

I'd do the first one in a friggin heartbeat.

  20. CONTEST RIGGED!! Or at least I think so. These three are found back to back on the vman contest website. (curious) search the group of ten marked numbers 95 and 96.

  21. Renan Bonin from Brazil is the actuall winner. He isn't pictured here. These three guys are finalists and they will be featured in V-Man. I am a model and have an agency in Athens and Monte Carlo. Hellenic Models if you are interested in modeling guys. These are the types of looks that are quite popular at the moment. Especially in Paris. These three look good, these are basic snapshots. So don't judge them to harshly. V is a great magazine. I wish the winner Renan all the luck. Brazil is killing us models at the moment. There everywhere.

  22. dear jaded homosexuals...

they're in their TEENS. any teenager who is remotely athletic will have lean bodies. they're teenage models. they probably eat like they have hollow legs like all teenagers.

and they look nothing alike. if there were three black or asian guys would nayone get away with saying they all look alike.

none of them look anything alike. they'll all have totally disparate careers.

    get over your self-hate
