Gay Zombie walks a thin line indeed... it could be taken as self-parody or homphobia (Towleroad obviously falling in the former camp, JIM on the latter) all depending on those who authored it.
I have a sneaking suspicion it's more homophobia... although the last line is pretty funny.

Damn, I was just a few minutes too late to prevent the standard cross-bearing speeches to take aim at a bit of dark humor.
I know Coretta Scott King compared the fight for same-sex marriage to the civil rights movement, but that doesn't mean that being gay in America 2008, is like being black in Ameria, pre-Civil Rights act of 1964.
I get annoyed when gay people hijack the black civil rights struggle because they think it legitimizes their own. Grow up and make your own cause.

Rather than get upset about a completely innocuous video that some bored teenagers made, I'd like to comment on how amazing that "Christian the Lion" video is. I had a big, stupid grin on my face towards the end, and it certainly lightened my mood. Good find.

GRIFF, for those that think our lives are open to ridicule and scorn, there's no line and the video is H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S! Your "sneaking suspicion it's more homophobia" is correct. But don't take my word for it. Just read the hateful comments posted on YouTube.
One has to ask why Andy Towle would post this homophobic crap on the eve of Gay Pride weekend here in NYC? It's fucked up to say the least.

RE: Christian the Lion - I was worried I was being Rick Rolled watching that one. I also thought maybe that lion was going to come running down that hill and start attacking the two guys. No, it had to be a video to melt my cold cold heart.
Also regarding Gay Zombie: I thought it was funny. And why do any of you know for sure those guys are actually straight?

Alec - I forget...in the hierarchy of civil right injustices, African Americans will always win in this country in the "who suffered more" argument. I get as tired of African Americans thinking their struggles for equality trump anyone else's.
What about the Jews? Native Americans? Get in line with everyone else. It's so ridiculous to even say something like that I can't even comment further on it. Grow the fuck up.

We use the black civil rights struggle to cast a light on society's hypocrisy in affirming ALL civil rights. Black civil rights were imposed by a Federal government over the wishes of democratic majorities in several states because it was just -- but somehow to do the same for civil marriage is suddenly undemocratic? The current "separate but equal" treatment is totally analogous. So is the Bible-thumpers, who, do not forget, used the same argument 40 years ago that whites should not marry blacks because the Bible forbids bestiality! The black civil rights struggle is used as a positive PRECEDENT that should be respected. Thanks. TO ANDY: Wow, that Zombie flick was homophobic. No thanks.

I truly wish someone would put a bullet in Mitt Romney's head.
I doubt very seriously, JOHNINMANHATTAN, that Andy Towle approves of the Gay Zombie video. He does, after all, often post things to remind us that we in the GLBT community are still part of a hated, misunderstood minority and that we need to get off our collective asses to fight homophobia and discrimination. I suggest that instead of criticizing Andy or towleroad that you go back to that video on YouTube and hit the 'Flag' button to report it as hate speech.

Hey guys, the zombie video was definitely not an "endorsement" of its content. Often I put things up in this section to generate discussion, or, in the zombie video's case, because I had seen it circulated quite a bit lately. Since it is disturbing a lot of people I've taken it down and replaced it with another video that I had planned for the tech section, which isn't happening this week.

So much to see, and so much to say. First as always thanks for the Lion clip, I sent it to my A list, as I do with most of your great finds.
I have to say that TERRY MCAULIFFE, is a horses ass, and one of the reasons Hillary lost, bad advisers, him and Bill at the top of the list.
Next is Shit Romney, I hope McDouche picks him as VP. He is so ill informed and out of touch, not to mention part of a cult most Americans know little or nothing about, or think that they are heathens.
Last is the haters about the Zombie clip, which I had to look up. It was stupid, not in good taste, but nothing that you will not see in any Judd Apatow film. Bad taste is a staple of straight society. Look at Paris, American Idol, America Has Talent. The list can go on and on. Lets not forget soon to be former Pres W.
Have a great week off Andy. I'm on holiday as well down in Corolla, NC with the family.

Jean: I agree with you. We shouldn't be comparing the suffering of two different groups of people, because that isn't productive. I don't know what you mean by that last part, however.
Strepsi: Preaching to the choir. But I'm not black and never went through that struggle for equal rights. Therefore, I don't have the ability to personally make that comparison. So, I don't.
ANON: Thanks for revealing what I already suspected. The Marys on Towleroad need to lighten up: not every gay comedy is their personal crucifixion.
It's a shame you took the video down, Andy, it just proves that some people can't take a joke.

CHAS you got me there. Being a big fan of Waters I agree, but there is bad good, like Show Girls, and bad shit, like any reality show that the world laps up as entertainment. The dumbing down of the world explains how W and Co gets away with the shit they do.
Best example, Sens Vitter and Craig resubmitting a bill against Gay Marriage this week, these are the poster boys of marriage? Oy fucking vey.

I completly agree with PETERPARKER that even though Gay Zombie was in bad taste, we all need to know that homophobic shit like this is still out there and acceptable to some. If I hadn't seen this video prior to going out to a bar last night I would have been even more shocked to hear some idiot in the bar make the same joke but instead call it the GAY AIDS ZOMBIE. This video prepared me to tell the F&@$er off.
