Tila Tequila Takes Credit for California Gay Marriage Decision

Why did the California Supreme Court overturn the state's ban on same-sex marriage?
The reality TV actress told Us magazine: "It is because of me — I definitely think [my show] has helped the movement. Before it came out, everyone was still a little apprehensive about [same sex relationships]. Then they realized, 'Wow, everyone is really into this stuff, and it is fine.' The next thing you know, [gay marriage] is legal."
You're kidding! And all this time I thought it was Lindsay Lohan's doing!
Via newnownext, and Gawker, who supplied the edifying clip AFTER THE JUMP...

Don't laugh, BANJIBOI. Californians have elected celebrities before. Governor Tequila. YES, WE CAN!

If anything sets the Gay Marriage movement back, it will be Tila Tequila taking credit for it!! Isn't her 15 minutes up yet?
Posted by: Jon | Jun 12, 2008 12:05:27 PM
Tequila has been responsible for many a straight marriage. It's only fair that tequila brings the gays together too.
Posted by: Shaun | Jun 12, 2008 12:05:31 PM
Fuck her, and her shitty MTV series.
her 15 minutes were up a long time ago.
People are still aprehensive about gay/lez/bi/trans things Tila, and your show isn't helping the whole "gay people are slutty" argument.
Posted by: Nick | Jun 12, 2008 12:07:16 PM
She can't sing and has very little talent, and the show is sleazy as all get out, but it is all harmless. And lesbianism and homosexuality are taken as the norm on her show, which is refreshing; it isn't preachy or after-school-specially--it's whore-y, like everything else on MTV. Moreover, those few guys who are jerkwads about the whole gay thing are vilified through editing and confessionals and then, usually, eliminated.
Talentless, to be sure, but she makes gays normal, so that's good in my book.

Great. Gay marriage just jumped a shark with fake tits.

how many milimeters of brain she has??? She REALLY thinks that???, well kudos for her and her (stupid) intelligence, hope she does not fall from a sidewalk trying to spell handkerchief and walking at the same time...

Quote: "People are still aprehensive (sic) about gay/lez/bi/trans things Tila, and your show isn't helping the whole 'gay people are slutty' argument."
It's MTV. Sandwiched between The Hills and The Real World, it merely shows gays are just as irresponsibly slutty as straights.
Posted by: Andre | Jun 12, 2008 12:12:22 PM
Surely this a cross-promotion with another wretched MTV show and we're being Punked!
Posted by: paul | Jun 12, 2008 12:27:32 PM

What an insult to the couples and folks who are risking who they are to advance the cause of equal rights. What some people won't do to advance their own careers.

Any gay shrinks out there with a theory why the LGBT movement has long had a hugely disproportionate number of parasitic, brain-dead Certified Attention Whores attached to it?
I bet this card carrying cunt couldn't come up with the name of ONE person who has actually WORKED for, FOUGHT for gay marriage equality, from Jack Baker & James McConnell who applied for a marriage license in Minnesota THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS AGO forward. Y'all remember this great moment the next time someone is passing out praise and plaques to Brian Graden and the other "Gay Bashing Reggae Money Is STILL Money" shekel chasers at MTV.

Posted by: Dakota | Jun 12, 2008 1:06:51 PM
Christ, Leland, that MTV reggae money crap you keep trotting out is almost as tired as your anti-Reichen sermonizing. Get a new shtick.
Posted by: crispy | Jun 12, 2008 1:23:14 PM
miss tequila seems to be a force to be reckoned with as we all know the power of mtv and certainly if her show persuades more young studs to get down on all fours and take it up the ass or suck cock she certainly has my vote in that the more people can be persuaded to go against their natural inclinations and go gay i say that is better for the world all around. bravo miss tequila!
Posted by: the queen | Jun 12, 2008 1:38:14 PM
Regardless of what I think of her show--hate it, She has a following, she normalizes the sexual continuum and she is smart enough to make money hand over fist. She's much more likely to be an astute marketer than the witless wonder she presents to the world.
Posted by: rayrayj | Jun 12, 2008 1:44:42 PM
I agree with her 100%. She IS the reason gay marriage is legal in California, and it sort of pisses me off that people are laughing at her because of a factual quotation.
These are also the same people that deny Tequila sewed the first flag, was the actual author of the Gettysburg address, led American forces at the Invasion of Normady, and negotiated the release of American hostages from Iran. At a certain point, people are going to just accept that fact that almost everything good in American history stems from Tila Tequila. Until then, we're just living in a sad state of denial.

Did an ignorant loser named Dakota really drop the f-bomb on this site? Ugh....people like Dakota make me sick to my stomach....and people like Tila T. are the reason why I do not do MTV or any other plastic bullshit. She is attempting to take credit for years of pain, suffering and hardwork that is not hers to own. I do not think feeling that way makes any of us bitter people as Dakota seems to think...the reality is that idiots who still use the word fag make me bitter. Get a life you ignorant hate monger. I'd bet money your boyfriend likes it when you call him a f** as he plows into you....it is always the self hating closet cases who feel the need to use that word. Don't worry though because God loves you and he loves me too.....as gay as I am. :) There is help for people like you if you are willing to accept it.

I personally would have placed the California Supreme Court more as VH1 fans.

David and Bran, thanks for making the comments worth reading.
i had no idea who this woman was, so i'm glad she spoke out about her role in shaping my state.

tila rules!

What a dolt. I don't watch the show, but I heard on the radio yesterday that Tia went to visit the four finalists' families. The brother of one of the finalists, 11 years old I think, asked what "bi" was. When asked to explain what it was, he said something like, "Bi is when a woman dates two guys and two girls."

If reality TV has taught us anything, it's that you can't keep people with no shame down.
Posted by: mikeinbama | Jun 12, 2008 5:27:06 PM
Never heard of this dumbass!! Let's give credit where it's due and that's to the thousands of gays and lesbians who have fought for the right to marry our partners for decades. Ms. Tequila can evaporate now.
Posted by: JerzeeMike | Jun 12, 2008 5:40:04 PM
I wasn't surprise she said that. Her show proves she's willing to do anything to get famous. To paraphrase Margaret Cho, I don't think she's lesbian or bi, she's just slutty. She's pretending to be queer to advanced her career.

Tila Tequila is an attention whore who trivializes same-sex relations more than anything. Her show on MTV is a form of phony acceptance based on titillation of straight guys.
And MTV is clearly not inclusive in how it approaches bisexuality, especially when you consider how it won't allow bisexual males on its show. Thumbs down to Tila and MTV.
Posted by: jason | Jun 12, 2008 7:44:00 PM
The true barometer of MTV's approach to same-sex relations is in how it excludes bisexual males from its dating show featuring Tila. MTV thus practises a gender-specific double standard which panders to the sleazy straight guy fantasy.
Message to MTV and Tila from this gay man: fuck off.
Posted by: adam | Jun 12, 2008 7:49:08 PM
Gay people have fought for gay rights for decades. They did it ensure that gay people and bisexual people could be who they are. They didn't do it so that skanks like Tila could exploit girl-girl action for the purpose of appealing to the fetish of straight guys.
Tila, you're an insult to the gay community. And so is MTV.
Posted by: brian | Jun 12, 2008 7:53:20 PM
Wow, who knew this talentless, opportunistic phony had such a massive impact on the political landscape? Do the G/L/B/T community the single most beneficial thing you can and crawl out of the public eye immediately. Repulsive.

MTV is still broadcasting in this day of iTunes and instant gratification? I'll be damned!
So....uhhhh....since MTV is/was Music Television - does this......Bourbon/Scotch/Gin/Tequila person.....sing? What's his/her/it's claim to fame?
Posted by: PDQ | Jun 13, 2008 1:17:32 AM
"What's his/her/it's claim to fame?"
Knowledge of how to work a casting couch, and that's about it.
Posted by: Walsingham | Jun 13, 2008 4:29:07 AM
PDQ, MTV has had little to nothing to to do with music for about the past ten years or so. I think the prime factor in landing oneself on MTV nowadays involves the mouth, sure, but it ain't for singing.
