Gov. Jindal to Reauthorize Discrimination Against Gays in Louisiana
Louisiana residents will once again face the threat of being fired from their jobs for being gay or lesbian when Governor Bobby Jindal allows a 2004 executive order made by former Gov. Kathleen Blanco to expire this Friday:
"We are not going to renew it and that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody. The reason for allowing the order to lapse is that I don’t think it is necessary to create additional special categories or special rights. We are firmly and strongly committed to fair treatment of all of our people and certainly don’t condone discrimination in any form."
Blanco's order added sexual orientation to a list of areas covered by discrimination laws, including race, religion, gender, national origin, political affiliation and disabilities.
Said Baton Rouge businessman and former state Revenue Department secretary Joe Traigle in a statement: "Jindal, for the sake of economic development in Louisiana, should reissue the non-discrimination executive order so that the sign below Louisiana can again read ‘everyone welcome.’"

If he really believes the "reason for allowing the order to lapse is that I don’t think it is necessary to create additional special categories or special rights" shouldn't he issue an executive order rescinding all protections for race, religion, gender, national origin, political affiliation and disabilities?
Then maybe we could get back to the good old days when a man Jindal's color in Louisiana couldn't vote. But we don't want to create any "special rights," do we?

Now, five years from now when some brave Louisiana gay person's law suit against Gov Jindal's decision goes before the US Supreme Court--who do you want to listen to the case? A court with 3 new McCain appointees, or a court with 3 new Obama appointees? It's your choice.
I'm not feelin' very playful today. sorry.

I'd expect nothing less from Bobby "The Exorcist" Jindal...

He's quite the Christianist freak:
from wikipedia...
Bobby Jindal has a 100% pro-life voting record according to the National Right to Life Committee. He opposes abortion without exception.
He opposes embryonic stem cell research and voted against increasing federal funding to expand embryonic stem cell lines.
Jindal voted yes on making the PATRIOT Act permanent, voted in favor of the 2006 Military Commissions Act, supported a constitutional amendment banning flag burning, and the Real ID Act of 2005.
Jindal has an A rating from Gun Owners of America.
He was a member of the conservative Republican Study Committee. In 2006, Jindal voted with the Republican Caucus 97 percent of the time during the 109th Congress.
Jindal also supports co-payments in Medicaid.
Jindal supports the teaching of intelligent design in public schools.
On June 25, 2008, Jindal signed the "Sex Offender Chemical Castration Bill", authorizing the chemical castration of those convicted of certain sex offenses.

Someone should start a petition to pull support or business from the New Orleans area if he follows through with this. It could have a similar effect how Oklahoma almost lost the big company looking at moving to Tulsa after Sally Kern's statements.

Wow. He is disgustingly unattractive in that picture!
And Louisiana is a pit. I can't wait to graduate.

i'm sure that bobby jindahl just believes that all the discrimination can be solved by performing an exorcism.

THIS JUST IN...
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal Fired for Being Indian, Hindu, and Fugly.
The Governor was quoted as saying, "I don’t think it is necessary to create additional special categories or special rights."

What Kevin and Derrick said.
This guy is clearly the next generation of Republican right-wing asslickers. When, oh when, will the decent people in the Republican party (and there are plenty) rise up and take back the control that they abdicated to the fundamentalists? It's truly a shame. We can't have reasonable and respectful political discourse when one side is working from a position of religious zealotry.

What do you expect? Why are we surprised? He is REPUBLICAN. Yes, a broad brush based on 60 years of observation.

Jindal is on the short list of McCain's VP picks so this is what we can expect if the Old Man wins the White House...

God damned christians! Sorry sacks of shit!!

In an election year, Jindal could quietly renew this, but instead it is now an issue and demonstrates that he is obviously as thick as a plank when it comes to LGBT issues. Utterly shameful indeed, but I doubt the GOP will ever care about gay rights unless gay people are *very* quiet somewhere far away in a log cabin, etc. Utter crap politics Jindal, nul points.

So can anyone tell me where in this fucking country is it o.k. to live? My partner and I are in Atlanta (sucks). We're here from New Orleans after Katrina. I've been longing to go home for 3 years now. Well, not any more! Fucking religion!
Posted by: boo | Aug 21, 2008 1:17:02 PM
Wow, that's pathetic. Fuck you, Jindal. Such warped/hypocritical logic. The stupidity of this fucking country amazes me.

Although I find MikeinSanJose's xenophobic comment distateful (he is American not Indian), it is a sad day for people like me who are first or second generation immigrants who come to this country and celebrate the freedom and wealth of diversity. Just shows how crazy Christians are not just limited to the USA.

More power to you DERRICK FROM PHILLY, I only have the merest sense of the scalding ironies you probably confront every day, and it's enough to make me admire you heartily.
Go Obama 2008!

Me neither, Derrick. One loses one's patience after yet another story about a religious wing-nut with power, using "no special rights" (one of my favorite wing-nut mantras) as the battle cry to sh*t on gays and lesbians again. Imagine if he's McCain's Veep pick. Imagine if McCain wins. Jindal is a heartbeat away from the Presidency. McCain ain't lookin too healthy these days. I wonder what all those darling Log Cabin girls think about Jindal? Let's see: he's for tax cuts; he's for a strong national defense; he's for less government (unless he needs the power of the state to sh*t on gays and lesbians (but Jindal promises not to harm LCR's)); he's a go-getter in the "war on terror" (let's finally retire THAT cliche); he's pious and pro-family and anti-choice. Hey! He's the LCRs man. I wonder if they'll pleasure themselves looking at the above picture of Bobby the Boob.

Is absolutely correct. People need to listen up and wake the hell up. Step away from the video games, put down People magazine and pay attention.
Enough of the dumbing down of America

I guess he wasn't discriminated enough when he was without power so he doesn't understand the oppression.
Where's my time machine.

What an idiot!
Just one week before the largest gay tourist event in the city.
Now we have days to prepare protests and study boycotts of this event with over 100M economic impact.
(Someone should brief him on what happend to politicians and how quickly things reversed in Pensacola Memorail day years ago when we stopped comming for a year due to their "not welcome here" comments.)

The Republican gets in and progress is rolled back.
Take note of the example.
