Towleroad Guide to the Tube #334

THE ONE: McCain's fourth consecutive Obama attack ad sarcastically paints his opponent as a quasi-religious figure.

POCKET: New Obama ad on McCain's relationship with the oil companies.

PAUSE: McCain lies about his support for MLK Jr. Day in Arizona. His eventual answer to the question posed isn't on these awkward clips, but Crooks & Liars has it here.

JOE LIEBERMAN: Obama is "a good young man."

  1. McCain is a old nitwit

  2. God! How naive I was about the old bastard Just because he spoke before the NAACP, I started to drink a little of his "centrist Kool Aid". Well, I'm back to straight Vodka now. He's evil. I finally read how he walked out on his first wife who was still going through hell recovering from a near fatal car accident. He's lucky his first wife wasn't Barbara Bush. She'd have beat the shit out of him.

Thank God, the Obama Campaign is starting to fight back against the little ancient devil.

Joe Lieberman must have an ego bigger than all the Bush's put together--including Barbara. What a putz.

  3. good morning miss derrick -- love the babs bush crack, so true -- but that's all mccain has to offer is lies lies lies and 5 or whatever years as a POW which certainly fried the old coot's brain... so you know what to expect should he become president: lies, lies, lies...

  4. I think Derrick From Philly like Babss Bush because she knows Bab's is actually a truck driver in drag. I'm sure she wears the pants and wields the leather cat-o-nine tails in that family.

Hey Joe, you're so right. Obama is a nice young man. What you left unsaid is McCain is a mean old man.

McCain lies about MLK. He voted against the original holiday and years later voted for a bill that attempted to rescind the holiday. McCain is a mysogonist, homophobe and racist. Check out this article for more of the truth on McCain and his hateful personality:

Obama better take off the gloves and come back swinging. Kerry wasted August and ended up being constantly on the defense and answering charges and lies. Get him O, get back the momentum.

  5. All of McCain's staff should resign, especially his PR and advertising staff. Those ads are pathetic. Trying to use "Obama is a celebrity/dynamic figure/leader" as an attack line is just pathetic and so misguided. That first ad spent 90 percent of its time showing the opponent---is that really the way a politician should conduct a campaign, unless the opponent is doing something incredibly stupid? McCain is a stupid old freak.

  6. It's an indication the levels of desperation in the GOP with these Rove ads getting progressively more and more insane. They only talk to the choir not the American public.

    Posted by: jeffg166 | Aug 4, 2008 2:01:41 PM

  7. Call them vile, silly, racist, desperate...whatever, but the startling fact is that the most recent Gallup poll shows that Obama has lost the nearly 10 point advantage he had over McShame in their previous poll barely a week before and that they are presently tied.

This is INSANE and bodes very badly for the election less than 3 months away. The cash poor, waffling, flip-flopping, shuffling, bumbling, borderline senile McShame should be at least 20 points behind!

When the #1 issue is allegedly the economy and McShame repeatedly shows himself apparently incapable of even balancing his own Christmas Club checkbook; when Americans are allegedly totally soured on the Iraq invasion and McShame keeps defending it as a noble cause that must be perpetuated at any cost in dollars or lives; when the electorate is allegedly hungry for change yet half are still dethroating the McCain Myth....what the fuck is going on?

Despite the minority report from the trio of political observors last week that it has not nor will be a "horse race," with no logical reason to explain not just this tie but how relatively close the two have been in the past I am beginning to fear a repeat of 2000 and another coup d'etat by the Supreme Court if not by right wing manufactured electric voting machines.

  8. Well, Michael Bedwell and I finally agree on something! Obama, given his "fresh" return from his world tour should be up by 20 and yet they are now in a statistical dead heat. I posted a week ago that he was slipping in the polls and was blasted....where is Jimmyboyo now? Love ya Jimmy, but Obama is slipping.

The reason Michael is because the more he talks, the more middle America listens, the more scared they get. He is NOT a Bill Clinton centrist. He is NOT a Hillary Clinton socialist. He is worse. Just keep is not over yet.

  9. Did I mention that the surge is working? Last month we saw the FEWEST NUMBER OF DEATHS SINCE THE WAR BEGAN! Something is going in the right direction.

    Posted by: RB | Aug 4, 2008 7:04:33 PM

  10. McNasty is a lying piece of shit. Obama best take off the gloves because as the posts note above it's working. This country is full of a bunch of idiots whose lives are run by fear and sound bites.

Posted by: patrick nyc | Aug 4, 2008 7:15:47 PM

  11. What soundbites Patrick? Obama has enjoyed 4 times the press coverage! He is the media golden child. What scare tactics?

The simple facts are that the more Obama speaks the more people are scared!

    Posted by: RB | Aug 4, 2008 7:22:33 PM

  12. What sound bites Patrick? Obama is the media darling! He is the golden child and has had FOUR TIMES THE MEDIA COVERAGE! Three news anchors followed him around the world like lost puppy dogs! What scare tactics?

The simple facts are that the more Obama speaks the more middle America is afraid! He is far too liberal to win this election!

  13. RB

    according to which poll?

some polls have him at 12-15% ahead

some have him at 3-5% ahead

No 2 polls have the same numbers. The only thing all the polls agree on is obama is winning.

None of the polls even take into account the 2% swing atributed to younger voters who only use cell phones and do not have any land lines and thus never get polled.

Nothing to worry about what so ever

    Posted by: jimmyboyo | Aug 4, 2008 7:26:03 PM

  14. RB,

Is all coverage good coverage? This would seem to suggest no.

The mainstream press is certainly more critical of Obama. They seem to take McCain's charges against him (of "inexperience", etc) at face value, and accept McCain's bullshit as fact. Not least the idea that he's some kind of maverick straight-talker, when he's now fallen in line with the Republican orthodoxy (and is even further right than Bush on foreign policy) and is the furthest thing from a "straight talker" (unless "straight talker" is just a nice way of saying he's an asshole that sticks his foot in his mouth a lot).

"The Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University, where researchers have tracked network news content for two decades, found that ABC, NBC and CBS were tougher on Obama than on Republican John McCain during the first six weeks of the general-election campaign.

You read it right: tougher on the Democrat.

During the evening news, the majority of statements from reporters and anchors on all three networks are neutral, the center found. And when network news people ventured opinions in recent weeks, 28% of the statements were positive for Obama and 72% negative.

Network reporting also tilted against McCain, but far less dramatically, with 43% of the statements positive and 57% negative, according to the Washington-based media center.",0,6802141.story

  15. RB, I think you're getting a little too excited...

    Posted by: Mark | Aug 4, 2008 7:56:22 PM

  16. Lord, RB, every time you speak I get more afraid!

Whatever improvements McCain makes in the polls, alas, do not make him a better candidate. Sadly, such rises only indicate that the susceptibility of the American public to cheap-shot ads, lying (or the politics of senility) about one's record, and repackaged Bush policies cannot be underestimated. McCain could be scoring 100% in the polls, but he's still a terrible candidate--unless you support the Republican agenda--and his record on gay rights remains as abysmal as ever. Fortunately, there's still plenty of time for him to continue making the jaw-dropping gaffes that--along with stammering senselessly whenever homosexuality is mentioned--seem to be his most consistent campaign skill.

  17. RB

It's clear that you choose not to see the facts, or at least acknowledge them. While Obama did get great press on his trip overseas, as he has since he ran, a lot of it has been bad.

The crap that they played over and over, he didn't see the troops because he could not bring cameras was repeated over and over, it was a lie. The latest is the Britney ad.

As was done against Harold Ford, the GOP is using two blond bimbos to scare people, the black man is after the white women. Rove's hand print is all over this shit.

The other is the race card. Why Obama did not bring up this McNasty ad is beyond me. As I've said, he better get the gloves off, the real fight is just starting.

It's clear who played the race card here, just not clear to you or the other log cabin idiots who choose you wallet over what is right.
