Transgender Woman in the Running to Be America's Next Top Model
The new season of America's Next Top Model begins on September 3, and will for the first time feature a transgender contestant, named Isis.
Says Isis to Us Weekly: "My cards were dealt differently. I like to help people [as a role model], but I'm here to follow my dreams."
GLAAD president Neil Giuliano hailed the decision: " [It's] an unprecedented opportunity for a community that is underrepresented on television. We applaud Tyra Banks and The CW for making this historic visibility of transgender people possible."

As great as this is for visibility, it's pretty transparent--this is simply for the ratings they hope to scare up.
The show included a plus-size model last cycle, and she won (kind of amazingly, if one is to believe that the contest isn't decided from the get-go). I wouldn't be surprised if this girl is intended to last a good long time, either.
