Body of Transgender Woman Pulled from River Near Sacramento
The body of a transgender woman who CBS 13 reports was in the process of transitioning to a female was pulled from the American River near Sacramento over the weekend. Police are attempting to determine the cause of death, and whether or not it may have been a hate crime.
According to the Sacramento Bee, "Officer Konrad Von Schoech said authorities initially thought the body was female, because of long hair, painted toenails and a smaller frame. The body was also covered in mud so it was hard to tell, he said. On closer examination, authorities determined it was a male body, Von Schoech said. Coroner officials have identified the person, whose last known address was in North Highlands, using fingerprints, but have not released the identity pending notification of next-of-kin."

Andy, a transgendered man is an female-to-male. The appropriate and respectful way would be to refer to HER as a transgendered WOMAN. And chip, I agree with you, but the T in LGBT is suffering assault and murder at a much higher incidence. We have to stop throwing this integral part of our community under the bus.

yes....actually over 60% of those murdered in 2008 LGBT related hate crimes are transgendered or transitioning.
This is a serious issue for the transgender community and by direct extension the entire LGBT community; we are in talks with the wonderful Mara Kiesling, Executive Director of the National Center for Transgender Equality, whom I met while in Denver during the DNC. It looks as though she might come on our BOD or Advisory Board.
We are very excited to have her intellect, wisdom, advice, and friendship.

If we want to be completely correct in terminology, the term is "transgender" not "transgendered".
