Get Stupid: Madonna's Political Backdrop Revealed

Mccain_madonna

Here's the "Get Stupid" video Madonna uses as a backdrop during her Sticky and Sweet Tour, the one that John McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds, who we've come to know quite well lately, felt compelled to condemn in late August.

The heavy-handed video showcases Madonna's support of Obama, grouping McCain with fellow worldwide celebrities Hitler, Chinese premier Wen Jiabao, Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, and Kim Jong Il and Mike Huckabee, while grouping Obama with the Dalai Lama, Al Gore, Bob Geldof, Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Michael Moore, Bill Gates, JFK, Bono, and others...

Said Bounds: "The comparisons are outrageous, unacceptable and crudely divisive all at the same time. It clearly shows that when it comes to supporting Barack Obama, his fellow worldwide celebrities refuse to consider any smear or attack off limits."

Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. you know, i'm glad this video is circulating. it's amazing. i mean, who cares that she's "comparing mccain to hitler?" regardless of what you think of that comparison, the message of this video it good. it's saying ACT. DO SOMETHING. madonna says that we're running out of time, and she's right. this video should be everywhere.

  2. Madonna makes video that says "Get Stupid," then proceeds to "Get Stupid" in her uninformed, totally ignorant, if not outright insulting historical comparisons.

The irony is so exquisite, I think I need to go lie down. If I can stop laughing.

  3. I always wear my S&M outfit when making a political point. I find it really drives the message home.

  4. Like the US Postal Service, the delivery sucks but the message is needed.

  5. Madonna, I love you, but you really need to go away right now.

  6. wasted ammo... if the video is shown to her paying concert goers (her fans must be 95% democrat) isn't it kinda like preaching to the choir.

  7. So can someone explain what the "controversy" is all about? From the media reports I read, it seemes as if Madonna was putting a picture of McCain next to Hitler and saying they are the same. This video does not to that. I think she's trying to say that we are responsible for our own choices and that History can repeat itself. I'm rather impressed and that's a surprise, considering I'm not a madonna fan.

  8. Madonna (and maybe Towleroad) jumps the shark.

    Posted by: thevegasstyleguy | Sep 16, 2008 11:48:03 AM

  9. Well, she is bold to title anything her age "sticky and sweet." It conjures all sorts of visions of old hookers and witch potions. Might I suggest a few alternatives? "Plasticized and germ-free," or how about "botoxified and bleached," or "Accentuated with a tinge of cockney and a dollop of face cream."

  10. Am I the only one who thinks the best way to shut Tucker Bounds up is to tie him up and stick my dick in his mouth?

  11. This is a fantastic video. Thanks for sharing it

  12. That second list is hysterical! Al Gore and Mother Theresa?? Ha!

  13. Christopher, I'm sure that already happening on a regular basis. The guy is a poster child for LCR self-loathers.

  14. I find the sexist and ageist remarks on this site alarming. If Bono did the same thing he wouldn't be attacked for his age or sexuality. Madonna has done more for the gay community over the years than any other celebrity but is constantly criticized by that very community for her refusal to accept age as a barrier. Right on Madonna.

  15. Madonna, at this point, knows that these kinda things will not just be seen by her fans. We just watched it on YouTube via Towleroad and saved ourselves hundreds of dollars.

In any case, her fans may not all be politically active so maybe she'll get a few of them so start doing something. That isn't such a bad thing, is it?

    Posted by: stan | Sep 16, 2008 12:37:13 PM

  16. Yeah, Anon, that is funny placing Al Gore next to Mother Theresa. I mean, Al Gore has more principles and doesn't inculcate poverty-stricken people with a ridiculous mythology.

As for the video, well, it's Madonna: in your face, not very subtle, and very effective.

  17. Are the "Dalai Lama, Al Gore, Bob Geldof, Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Michael Moore, Bill Gates, JFK, Bono, and others..." represented by the William Morris Agency, too? Let's not forget that Madonna is a publicity machine above all else.

  18. This election has shown me something very basic.

Democrats can be just as stupid as republicans.

Case in point. "Lipstick on a pig."

C'mon people, we all know what Barry meant when he said that. The crowd knew what he meant. He waited a Lenobeat for the comment to sink in.

The "outrage" of republicans should have been expected.

I am a firm believer in "anything I say behind your back I'll say to your face." If I called you a smegma loving uncle fukker behind your back, I'll say it to your face. I might even add in something to bring you to tears if you forced me to say in front of other people (I'm cute, but deadly when fucked with, sorta like a cornered Bunny. Playboy.).

Our guy didn't own up to it. How could he? He shouldn't have said it.

But, we Dems are surrounded by dumbkoffs who really should just shut the hell up.

Madonnas' latest video (this bitch has been making videos since her days with the Mack Sennet studios) somehow manages to juxtapose Pop N Fresh with Adolf Hitler, Stalin, etc.. Obama is compared to the Dalai Lama, Bob Geldorf and I think God.

Real quick you red string wearing fake pretendabe almost Jewish (when you're spouting that Kaballah cult crap) distorter of history.

HITLER!? I don't even like Pop but this not only is over the top, it's insulting to the millions of Jews, Gypsys, Christians, Mentally Ill AND GAYS THAT HITLER HAD MURDERED! MILLIONS!

    SHUT THE FUCK UP BITCH!

Our guy is compared to the Dalai Lama.

    Let's talk about that fraud.

You see, he is a "living God." I'm cool with that, after all, so is Jason Momoa from Stargate.

The Dalai, however, lived in slendor in a huge castle overlooking his dirt eating "subjects" down below. Well, for whatever the reasons, the Chinese decided to take his little kingdom from him. Now, I'm no religious authority but I think another "living God" chose to die for his people so that they could live lives dedicated to doing good to and for their fellow humans (ok, so we know how that turned out, but it wasn't Jesus' fault, the republicans got ahold of him and......).

    I'm just saying.

GO JESUS! GET BUSY! IT'S YOUR BURFDAY!

Well, Dalai, when the going got ruff, ran like a virgin at a prison riot.

    "OOH GRAB THE GOLD!"

Yeah, the Tibetan people have lived under the iron thumb of the Chinese ever since. Recently, when they had finally had enough, they rioted.

When Benazhir Butto felt her country needed her she went back to Pakistan and gave her soil her blood. Martin Luther King stood on a balcony and received a shotgun blast for sticking to his principles.

The Dalai Lama knows how to order room service at any Four Seasons hotel in the world

"Yes, charge the pork chops to, oh let's see, yes, charge it to the idiots in Hollywood who keep pushing me as a great world figure. Yes, that Richard Gere, oh no, he paid for my private jet here. Bono, oh no, he's supporting African dictators. Hmm, Madonna, yes, Madge. Oh, and please, some of that blood sausge I love so."

And that Geldorf dude. Have you ever read an English tabloid? Check one out or do a search on Peaches and Pixie Geldorf. Crazy rich bitches who make Lindsay and her bf Steve seem like cheerleaders from Minnetonka. Seems while he was out saving the world his ex commited suicide leaving him to ruin the lives of his girls.

    I'm just saying.

    My point is thus.

When we Dems come up with all this really stupid crap we come off like the kid on the playground who stomps his feet and cries when he gets hit in dodgeball.

    It's just whiny.

And let's face it, when that kid cries, what's your first reaction the next time you go to recess?

You throw that ball even harder at that little bitch to see him go apeshit.

    DEMS THIS IS DODGEBALL 3.0!

Stop crying and throw the issues ball right back at Team Endora and aim for the head!

Just stop whining and for chrissakes Hollywood........

    SHUT THE FUCK UP!

  19. Vegasstyleguy,

Sorry, i couldn't stop laughing after your ridiculous "lipstick on a pig" BS regarding Palin, considering McCain used the same time-honored saying on Hillary.

I am guessing from your ramblings you found that over the line as a Dem, but calling Madonna a bitch a-ok.

The rest of your rant, I gave up on. incoherent. Sorry.

Anyway, Madonna's point is to provoke and that she does. Perhaps if she sang "Bomb Bomb Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran" to a Beach Boys tune as McCain did, the GOP and this asswipe Tucker would have applauded.

  20. I love that quote about Obama's "fellow worldwide celebrities". If it wasn't so pathetic it would be laughable. One does tire of the Republicons' constant attempt to present themselves as "aw-shucks" people, when it is truly the party of the elite. That's the ironic thing about the GOP: they are more elitist now than ever and have succeeded in gutting the economic egalitarianism that has nurtured the fabled "American Dream". Yet, Americans keep voting them into office. Must be the "Stockholm Syndrome" or "The Battered Wife Syndrome". The Republicons are a destructive, decadent force in American society.

  22. Thanks for posting this.
Now I can see how stupid the McCain Campaign and it's spokesman Tucker is.

Everyone DOES have the right to say what they what to say. More importantly as an artist Madonna and her creative staff certainly does have a right to say this.

As does any visual artist who decides to include a political message.

As for being offended...I was more offended by the Republican Convention and in particular the rants of Guliani, PALIN, Thompson, Romney to mention a few than I was by this artistic expression.

  23. Leave to the fifty year old Madonna to make a protest video in this day and age...You have to be ultra powerful to speak out otherwise there are reprisals from our ever more fascist government. The RNC was guarded by an army, a brutal army that violently arrested anyone who came close to being a protester including the journalists. This video needs to made about a hundred more times so Americans will f*cking wake up...

  24. I don't know who was insulted more by the group they were lumped in with -- McCain or Gandhi and the Dalai Lama.

  25. Seriously, There are too many idiots on here, I like Madonna's message liek always the point is skipped when it hits empty heads. The remix and visual are a totally awesome combo.

Get Stupid Mccain!~ Those *Nazi-Religious-Bigots-Sexists-Homophobes...whow the list can go on and on.
