Obama on The O'Reilly Factor

Barack Obama appeared on FOX News' The O'Reilly Factor last night.
Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP...
And just as a side note, it has been ages since John McCain (or Sarah Palin for that matter) held any kind of news conference with reporters.

"ages since"? Palin hasn't done a single interview since the VP announcement.

I tried watching it earlier and had to stop. O'Reilly's constant interruptions before Obama could even finish answering each question just got on my nerves. It was like watching The View.

I was so stunned that O'Reilly actually used the word "bloviated" in this interview that I went to check the exact definition; "To discourse at length in a pompous or boastful manner" (obviously something that Ol' Windbag knows a thing or two about). Interesting that when you Google the term, two of the first four results that come up link to stories specifically about Bill O'Reilly himself.

Apparently, Palin will not be addressing the media:

I'm sorry, but Barack affirmed my faith in him as the next President. To stand firm in the face of this blowhard just love him more. I wish I could reach through my computer screen and smack Bill. Quit interupting Barack and let him answer your loaded questions. Barrack is the man!

Sarah Palim couldn't discuss international affairs if she wanted to. sHE WILL CRUMBLE ON HER FIRST INTERVIEW!!! I hope its not Fox news who exclusively interviews her for 2 months

I think with Oprah, Perez Hilton, and Towleroad behind him Obama is gonna winna...
The political pollsters thinks so too ...look it up.

It's disappointing to me that Obama would appear on Fox Noise at all, especially with O'Reilly. To appear on that hate mongering news network gives them legitimacy they don't deserve.

Palin isn't doing interviews for at least 2 weeks
Why?

Top GOP strategist and mccain advisor says because she could make a mistake.
"She might make a mistake."
Claims that she is ready on day 1 and can take on Putin, but can't deal with the softest of the softest interviews by Diane Sawyer.
Any and all apologists, admirers, repubs liking and defending Palin are IDIOTS!
Flat out idiots and liars to even themselves.

Totally disrespectful how O'Reilly kept interrupting Obama. Using such shameful bullying tactics on a presidential candidate. Has he interviewed McCain in this fashion?
Kudos to Obama for still keeping his cool and not allowing smug O'Reilly to rattle him.
Posted by: RJ | Sep 6, 2008 2:05:03 AM
BO thinks he has more executive experience because he's been running his presidential campaign for 2 years. Wow it's so laughable. This guy is unbelievable. He is so coddled by his people. Oh and why hasn't it been reported that Oprah won't even touch a Palin interview. How long is she gonna leave it in him. LOL

what an idiot obama is
Posted by: nobama | Sep 6, 2008 3:45:15 AM
I was soooo proud of Obama, in my opinion he was one of the few people who've been able to keep O'Reilly in check. I know I could never keep my cool with O'Reilly repeatedly interrupting me. Barrack made his stance firm and clear.
Did anyone else see the 60 minutes he and Biden did a couple of weeks ago? In it, Obama explained his choice of Biden and it made complete sense from a logical standpoint. He picked Biden because he has a different view of things and therefor can keep Obama in check and offer a different perspective in order to produce more well-rounded results. Can anyone say that much thought went into McCain's VP pick?
Seriously we all need to face the fact, Hillary queefs more qualified candidates than Palin.

Right on Obama! He held his own with that dog O'Reilly. He didn't back down at all when O'Reilly was trying to talk over him. He went back and continued to make his case. If he can deal with an idiot like Bill then he deserves to be President!
Posted by: sam | Sep 6, 2008 9:53:48 AM
Obama KNOWS what he is talking about. I feel so confident in him being our commander in chief.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2008!

NOBAMA,
you're as pathetic as o'reilly.
obama vs o'reilly is like me getting into a bitch fight with you. it would only serve to diminish me while giving you a modicum of credibility.
i will never get up with fleas, if you get my driftaroo.

Obama is right. I think the underlying problem is and always has been Bush's lack of leadership. He handled the bloviating O'Reilly perfectly imo.

Wow. Thank you for complimenting Obama.
Nob
You are an IDIOT. The mccain campaign basicaly admits Palin isn't equipped to handle interviews (yet can deal with Putin?).
A flat out IDIOT!
I'm so looking forward to Clinton's campaigning in FL on monday and showing what an intelligent and accomplished woman is. Hillary has done a zillion interviews in her life (and some really tough ones at that).
repubs = IDIOTS

hey, jimboy!
i was saying the same thing yesterday to a female friend. hillary, if she is so disposed, can make mince meat out of palin. the dems need her.
yes, i may be suferring from separation anxiety, but is hillary not wonder woman? other than my own sainted mother, i do not know of a stronger woman. palin pales in comparison. fuck her.

You guys have to ignore NOBAMA, he and the other trolls will never see past their wallets and self hatred, as was well displayed in the Michael Diamond clip in ANDY's post below.
We only have two more months of these trolls, and while I do love poking them with a stick, pay them no mind, they don't have one.

Wonder Woman. Hell, compared to palin Hillary is The Goddess Athena (wisdom and war).
"The NYT said Hillary has NO INTENTION of turning over those 18 million cracks to Palin..... Palin who is poison to Hillaryland."
Love that

Posted by: Jimmyboyo | Sep 6, 2008 11:43:48 AM
Patrick NYC,
The problem for the trolls is that Obama would likely be better for their wallets than McCain. Comparing the tax plans of Obama and McCain, and every analysis I've seen as well, has Obama's putting more money in the wallets of just about everyone except the top 1%. The "he'll raise your taxes" talking point is, as are most of the R talking points, a lie.
Posted by: MAJeff | Sep 6, 2008 11:47:18 AM
MAJEFF I agree, sadly they think that if they vote GOP they will get rich, trickle down and all that bullshit.

"And just as a side note, it has been ages since John McCain (or Sarah Palin for that matter) held any kind of news conference with reporters."
On of the Obama campaign's major points against McPain is "More of the Same." How often have we seen Mr. Bush in front of reporters over the last 8 years? His handlers keep him away with great trepidation when he gets close to a reporter. This is foing to be an unvarying behavior for these people. Old John shoots his mouth off faster than George.
So, it's just proves it's "More of the Same"!

Oh and there goes the loser NOBAMA again... asshole that he/she is (oh how I long to watch him/her eat his/her shitty flavored words in November!)! The only bigger loser on this particular page is Billo for being such an unmitigated fucking moron...oh, hold on, that is on any page that Billo appears on.... sorry fella, hate to restrict your asshole-ness to just one page, forgive me. You're a stupid c*nt no matter where you are!
Posted by: CK | Sep 7, 2008 12:57:52 AM
Hmm, Andy, in your side note you implied that O'Reilly was a "reporter". I gotta believe that was a slip.
Posted by: John | Sep 7, 2008 5:49:21 AM
That was a good exchange. Partly because Barack Obama stood up to Bill O'Reilly without losing his cool and partly because Obama didn't get caught out because he's not a flip-flopper and has a consistent, unwavering message. But mostly because O'Reilly -- as intelligent and informed as he is -- couldn't break Obama.
Bravo.

The Sunday news shows are basically saying that Hillary's campaigning tomorrow in FL and beyond is going to focus on mccain.
It sounds like to me that she might do a lot of ignoring of palin since she is beneath her. :-) Played right, the woman getting 18 million votes ignoring the "handed her position" could be a harsher rebuttal than an hour long speech.
However she approaches it, all I know is that I will be watching and listening while eating a big bowl of popcorn.

Gallup poll has McCain at +3
Posted by: nobama | Sep 7, 2008 6:07:06 PM
That's called a post-convention bounce, asshole.
You may remember Obama's bounce had him up by 9 points about a week ago. So for McCain's bounce to bring him up to only +3 means he's in deep shit. By midweek, he'll be right back where he's been since March—usually 2 to 6 points behind Obama. But I doubt you'll be dropping in here to announce that.
Posted by: 24play | Sep 7, 2008 6:28:12 PM
"Gallup poll has McCain at +3"
Temporary, no doubt, but I never underestimate the stupidity of the American electorate. (As is evidenced by the man currently in office.)
The O'Reilly interview was excellent, aside from the O'Reilly part. Bill Maher's show this week, which analyzed the Republican convention in all its absurd and gory detail, was a lot more fun, however.

Busted nitwits NOB and Ernie
Why lie???
Gallup poll = Obama ahead 2%
Gallup DAILY TRACKING = mccain ahead 3% (not even the 4% part of your lie) DAILY TRACKING range all week was Obama +9% to +6%....first day and ONLY day mccain ahead at all and at 3%
The 2% Obama ahead is the closest to the overall of the Daily Tracking
DAILY TRACKING is very inaccurate and only gives a shadowy pulse at the moment.
LOL
You both are either too stupid to understand what you were looking PLUS the lie or you just lied knowing that DAILY TRACKING isn't accurate
LOL
Busted
The latest electoral college poll which is state by state poll and the electoral college is what elects the president = Obama 308 electoral college votes (270 wins it)
LOL
thanks for playing

Obama was okay, but I remember Clinton's interview with O'Reilly and she ran circles around him. Alas.
Posted by: Luke | Sep 8, 2008 6:24:00 AM
USA Today/Gallup realeased this morning now has McCain at +10
Posted by: nobama | Sep 8, 2008 7:11:11 AM
Jimmy, you might want to calm down and actually read comments before you pick your "busted nitwits." I was quoting Nobama and responding to that. You should know by now that I'm hardly a McCain supporter. That said, I don't care what the polls say day to day. We need to pay attention to electing Obama, not to the horse race.

Ernie
I appologize.
nobama's interp of the gallup daily tracking poll sent me into a spiral and I lumped you in with him.
Nob
The 10% USA today / Gallup poll is "likely voters". Likely voters are determined based on voting in 2000 and 2004. If a person didn't vote in those elections even though a registered voter and adamently going to vote for Obama, they don't get counted. All likely voter polls have always! shown mccain ahead. The polls of registered now polls no dependent on past voting all show Obama ahead. Especialy with the HUGE voter registration drive by the Obama camp (for example 49,000 new voters in VA)

I read USA TODAY every day, and as much as I like a lot of their writing, their polls consistently skew more conservatively than others by various networks and news organizations. There's still a lot of fluctuation going on.
And I'd say Obama scored points with O'Reilly just be keeping his cool and knowing what he's talking about. The fact that the McCain campaign isn't doing any interviews right now is very revealing, and the Dems should be highlighting that in ads. "What are they afraid of?"
