News: Malcolm Smith, Star Trek, Lieberman, Asbury Park, Beatles

road.jpg Stop a marriage referendum in New York: "On November 4th, New Yorkers gave the Democrats a two-seat majority in the New York State Senate. Finally, it seemed, Democrats would be able to put marriage equality to a vote and Governor Paterson would be able to sign it into law. However, three Democrats refuse to endorse Malcolm Smith as the new Majority Leader because Malcolm Smith has promised to pass marriage equality in New York. Senator Rubén Díaz, Sr. and Senator Pedro Espada, Jr., both from the Bronx, and Senators Carl Kruger of Brooklyn, are all threatening to caucus with the Republicans to stop gay marriage in New York."

road.jpg A secret ballot vote by Democrats on Tuesday will determine Joe Lieberman's fate in the Senate: "Senate Democrats will decide by secret ballot Tuesday whether to take away Sen. Joe Lieberman's chairmanship of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee — a post from which he oversees U.S. security issues, as well as the operations of a wide segment of the federal government. The anger over Lieberman's campaigning for the Republican presidential candidate is still boiling — fueled by memories of his undercutting Barack Obama, including in a nationally televised speech at the Republican National Convention."

road.jpg Gregory Craig to be White House counsel: "Craig is intimately familiar with the president-elect’s record because he played the role of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in debate preparations. The officials said Obama has settled on Craig but were not sure when the appointment would be announced. The choice gives the president-elect both experience and loyalty. During the primaries, Craig was an early Clinton alumni defector to Obama."

road.jpg South Korea reviewing ban on gays in the military: "The ban has been under review since a local military court asked the upper tribunal in August to determine whether the existing military criminal code banning homosexuality among soldiers is constitutional. The code stipulates that soldiers be jailed for up to one year for engaging in homosexual acts or sexual harassment while in service."

road.jpg Recession stops neo-gay enclave of Asbury Park, New Jersey in its tracks: "Various big residential plans came and went, but, partly because of an influx of gay men and lesbians looking for cheaper alternatives to places like Fire Island, it began coming back around 2000. The residential revival helped bring back downtown, now quite alive with shops and restaurants. Then came the beachfront development, beginning around 2005. From 2007 to 2008, the number of daily beach-access badges sold during the summer increased to 52,000 from 38,000. Live Nation, the concert promoter, signed an agreement to promote music at various locations. After all those years of going nowhere, Asbury Park was clearly going somewhere. And then, boom — the bottom fell out of the economy."

  1. Or, you could go to the movie website and watch the new trailer in HD.

Quite the sci-fi geek hardon going here.

  2. Burton is just a genius!
    Great look.
    Totally unspected!

  3. I never tire of seeing pictures of Hugh Jackman and his boyfriend. They're so cute together.

  4. Elephant cow that she is, Rosie blared: "The election’s over and everyone’s happy." EVERYONE?

I regret every time I've defended her in the past. Her refusal to keep her promise to San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom in 2004 that she'd "be there" if she was EVER needed; her refusal to give a dime of her MILLIONS to fight Prop 8; her rudeness to people who reasonably asked her on her blog why....I don't care if the bitch is coming back to TV...tell her to go away.

Write the network, potential sponsors, HER, anyone you can think of to send her back home counting her gold, painting her ludicrous paintings, and generally just being the extremely disturbed individual she is.

It'll take a hell of a lot more than Liza to get me to ever watch this cunt again!!!

  5. This past spring, just before season was about to start, I had to get out of Brooklyn for the weekend. I didn't feel like renting a car and filling it was gas and going for a long drive. So I randomly looked on the web for places close to the city. I saw an ad for a gay owned B&B in Asbury Park, and the next morning headed to Port Authority and hopped on a bus.

In two hours the bus dropped me off a few blocks from, the B&B, a beautiful Victorian built in the late 1800s. That day I took a long walk on the boardwalk and stopped by at the next town over for a burger at some charming old soda shop. That night one of the owners of the B&B took me to this great restuarant called the Harrison, and then to a few clubs. The Empress, a 50s style beach resort that is now a renovated gay property with a club in the bottom (different rooms playing different music) was a blast. The crowd was fun and unpretentious.

Long story short - I fell in love with Asbury Park. All gays who live in (or are visiting) the New York area next summer should check it out and support the community there. They are really good people, and while I love Fire Island, this is a nice alternative.

  6. I'm just an ignorant Seattleite. What is a beach access badge? If it's what I think it is, I will continue to be grateful for the Continental Divide.

  7. Rosie O'Donnell....Now we know why she was so notably silent on Prop 8. She's got a show to promote and she would never, ever want to alienate all of her homophobic "fans" many of whom, you can rest assured, are certain this whole "lesbian" thing of hers is a passing phase or that her wife is actually just her best friend and they live like sisters or maiden aunts.

What a fucking opportunistic, self-centered cow. Go back in the closet Rosie; phony creeps like you are the last thing we need right now. Host your show, make some more millions and make a complete ass out of yourself while you do it. Now it should be clear to everyone how completely devoid of integrity you are.

  8. Who's the guy with Hugh Jackman? Any details on Jackman's current male amours?

  9. I contacted Harry Reid at 202-224-3542 to tell him he needs to listen to the voices of the party and get rid of Lieberman off the committees... he has forfeited the right to ANY respect, and that it is way past time that Reid and the rest of the Democratic Senators grew a fucking spine.

No-one needs 'Joe The Turncoat' on their team except the GOP. We have absolutely NO USE for that party traitor, and if they give in to him they are as pathetic as he is slime.

I hope you will all join me in calling and making your severe displeasure heard!

  10. "Who's the guy with Hugh Jackman? Any details on Jackman's current male amours?"

I wish I could say it was me. Oh well, one more night where I close my eyes and pretend the ol' pard is really Hugh. Of course, my partner is probably doing the same thing.

  11. Abrams' Star Trek has jumped the shark for me... much as the recent Speed Racer did... angry, violent Spock? Homage to Thelma & Louise? Does anyone at Paramount or has Abrams actually watched or read any Star Trek?

  12. Maybe the so-called Democratic "leadership" in the Senate didn't get the message on Nov. 4th: CHANGE! Which means: you grow a pair, you don't worry that Joe the Traitor decides to switch to the Republicon party, you make nice-nice with the Republicon moderates in order to get key legislation passed, you get rid of Harry Reid and you march fearlessly into the future and damn the opposition! As it appears to be, Joe the Traitor keeps his seat. The only good thing out of this is the Connecticut voters will oust Joe.
