Fight Club: Robert Downey Jr. as the New Shirtless Sherlock

Sherlock

Guy Ritchie's promise that his version of Sherlock Holmes will "focus more on [Holmes'] physicality, including martial arts," shows up in a just-released still from the film, based on a forthcoming Lionel Wigram comic: "In a dynamic new portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous characters, 'Sherlock Holmes' sends Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson on their latest challenge. Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country."

  1. The missing point is how a dumb guy -well, that was easy- can do a movie about a brilliant guy. I don't see how. Well, may be he payed for the ideas. We'll see.

  2. Ouch! That bod looks like a 65 y/o. The whole point of Sherlock Holmes was brains over brawn, so this is a move in a wrong direction. Ritchie must have his head up is a**.

  8. actually, I went to see RocknRolla last week and it was amazing! Guy Ritchie was definitely overlooked by the Golden Globes, and hopefully will get a few nods when they release the Oscar nominations.
I'm looking forward to Ritchie's version of Sherlock Holmes despite how tired the source material.

  9. It appears that the succubus that is his ex-wife drained what little talent Guy Ritchie may have at one time had. He missed the entire point of the ACD mysteries. The confederacy of dunces continues to control what passes for entertainment in these creativity-forsaken times.

  10. "Here's Sherlock hopped up on coke!" Oh yes, that overlooked physicality of the character...

  11. If you read the books, Sherlock Holmes was famed as a martial artist/boxer as well as a deducer of mysteries. It's canon that he fought rounds against prize fighters.

Having said that, this movie is still going to suck.

  12. I have to point out that the stories actually said that Holmes was a proficient boxer and wrestler, who could have had a career as a prizefighter had he wished. And mention is made of him engaging in ring fights in the past. Not saying the movie will rock (how would we know until it comes out?)but the idea is not totally far-fetched. Give it a rest, people!
