News: Yes on 8 Files to Nullify Marriages;Ken Starr Joins Team; Jerry Brown Tells Court to Throw it Out

When you want to bury news you announce it at the end of the day Friday. When you really want to bury it, you do it the weekend before Xmas. (Wasnt' that in Wag the Dog?). Anyway....Kennethstarr_scary

road.jpg Yes on Proposition 8 folks file three lawsuits in California including one to nullify the 18,000 marriages last year.

road.jpg While at it they confirmed earlier rumors, announcing Kenneth Starr, currently Dean of Pepperdine Law School, is joining their legal team. Starr brings some of the best experience around if you're looking to waste tons of money on creepy investigations into private lives not in the public interest. Starr also currently represents Blackwater on the side of the Bush Administration in that case about our private contractors killing Iraqui civilians.

road.jpg  In a "dramatic reversal" California Attorney General Jerry Brown urged the state supreme court to overturn Proposition 8 (Link via Wockner)

road.jpg  Speaking of Kenneth Starr the organization formed solely out of frustration with his investigation of the Clintons, Move On, turns 10 years old and claims 4.2 million supporters. They released results of their massive membership vote today, announcing new post-election focus will be on  universal health care, the economy and jobs, fighting climate change and ending the war in Iraq. Gay rights came in 8th. Many have worked for decades to get universal health care to the top of our national agenda. Full results here.

road.jpg  And be sure to Join the Impact's Light Up The Night in a commercial district near you, Saturday night.  Send your pics from the event to us for posting at our tips at towleroad.com address. If you have a bunch zip them and send em on. We'll post in the coming days. Links to video also welcome.

  2. Hopefully the Pepperdine Law students are going to create quite a stink about their good dean.

  3. Wow indeed.

Jerry Brown, and by extension Arnold Schwarzenegger, has just given us a huge Christmas present.

I don't think I can recall a Supreme Court case where the government tells the judicial branch to invalidate a law that's already on the books. This is almost unheard of in common law jurisdictions. It is a once in a generation occurrence. Typically, the state will defend all statutes (even really awful ones) to the end of the appeals process.

The executive branch is basically telling the court: "we don't even want to enforce this crappy legislation." Now there's some change we can believe in!

  4. With Ken Starr involved, we can be sure this whole thing will turn pornographic in 3...2...1...

  5. They may have wanted to get it in under the radar, but it won't last. In fact, this may be a bit of a gift for us -- at least until we're all robbed of our newlywed status. The move to annul, Jerry Brown's flip-flop (cynical political move that it is not withstanding), and the Rick Warren mess -- I don't know, that kind of sounds like a perfect storm for Obama at least...there's no chance that the RW debacle is going away now (as for disagreeing with out being disagreeable, is there anything more disagreeable than moving to invalidate the marriages of 36,000 people a week before Christmas?).

  8. I hate to throw cold water on this, but this is just the beginning BECAUSE these judges have to run for reelection. So even if they rule Prop 8 unconstitutional, there's going to be a fight to keep the court progressive enough not to overturn the decision later.

To paraphrase Yoda: a present you say. No. Reignited, the culture war is.

  9. Why do I, instinctively and uncontrollably, find homosexual men to be disgusting beyond words?

Why do I find just the thought of having another man make any kind of sexual contact with me to be an unfathomable nightmare?

Why, from the time I was a small boy to the present, has effeminate behaviour by men, gay or not, illicited a knee-jerk response in me that is violent in nature?

Why, when I was raised to be "tolerant" and was never taught to "hate", do I have no tolerance whatsoever for gay men and absolutely hate men who "love" men?

Why do I, irregardless of what anyone says to the contrary, find homosexual behaviour to be a freakish abonimation of nature and/or, again in my opinion, some sort of personality disorder or mental illness?

I realize we are ALL human beings and no one should ever be dehumanized, but.. I know I will never be able to accept homosexual behaviour as being anything other than an incredible nasty and revolting perversity.

I am not religious, in fact if one wishes to speak to me about "Jesus", or "Islam", ..or whatever, I will always say, "you might as well preach to me about Zeus or Batman and Robin.." I do not believe in superstitions or that anyone's moral religious beliefs should be imposed upon anyone else. I believe in science, facts, and myself.

The issue of homosexuality is one that will forever be at odds with heterosexuality.
It will never be changed by enacting laws or any kind of civil rights movement.

The way I, and many, many others, feel about gay men will not change with time or by arguments because the facts behind the matter will not change, gay men will always be doing what gay men do: behaving like women and performing sexual acts on each other that have been considered to be illegal and immoral (at best) for centuries.

The only way the gay issue will ever go away is if gays go away.

I cannot help but wonder how the "gay community" would react if someday in the future we were to find a way through genetic science to conclusively and once and for all show that this is indeed an abnormality and a condition that is reversable. My prediction: Flaming outrage.

  10. Rob doesn't think anyone should be dehumanized, but goes ahead and does it anyway. Just another bigot without any value as a human.

  11. Yeah, Rob in MA, and how 'but them darkies? They're gross, too, and have popped up in cultures throughout the world! Let's burn 'em!

  12. Ken Starr is a sack of shit. I'm amazed this creep is still practicing law in the most disrespectful and vile ways. This prop8 just keeps getting more and more disgusting. These people ought to be ashamed of themselves!

  14. This is nothing more than the religious right's hatred of anything that is not them! Didn't these folks do enough damage to the nation through the Bush administration? Who cares if 2 gays want to get married? Its their lives and not mine. I don't want to tell them how to go about it. They truly are a hate group. They want to turn the nation into a theocracy like in Iran and much of the Muslim world. The evangelical and the religious right are unfit to govern the nation and it shows. Repeal all the stupid laws of hate.

  15. Yes, Rob, sweetheart.

Now, since you seem keen on questions that begin with "Why", I will ask a few of you: WHY, given that you apparently are so incredibly heterosexual that the merest tiny thought of gay sex is 'disgusting beyond words' to you, WHY... ahem... are you then on a gay male website in the first place?

WHY are you not on a Penthouse or Playboy website instead looking up boobies?

WHY are you not out enjoying yourself with a wife or girlfriend?

WHY have you even heard of Towleroad?

WHY do you feel compelled to spend your free time typing in a web address for a gay website and posting at length in an attempt to attract the attention of men whom you allegedly hate?

And WHY do you (and, alas, so many others) not realise that "irregardless" is not a proper word?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irregardless

    Questions, questions...

  16. Rob, you have these over the top reactions because you fear that you may have these urges in yourself. No secure heterosexual man
reacts this way. As for "acting like women", what does that say about the way you regard women? Do you find them repulsive?

    there live neanderthals such as
'Rob in Massachusetts'! Oh, and, yes there is a Santa Claus as well!!

  19. Rob

You sure seem titillated enough by gayness to hang out at, read, and post on a homosexual blog. Closet case much? Seek therapy on helping you deal with your self hate and be free of your closet.

Anyway; Ken Star sniffing undies again 3...2...1....

He wasted millions and 10 months+ to sniff the Clinton's underwear.

Despicable Neanderthal. I would love to see Hillary toss a high heel at his head, but she is too classy for that.

I'm not!!! so toss me one of your high heels Hill and I will gladly throw it at Ken Star's head in your honor.

  20. Hey Rob,

Santa said he's out of coal, so you're getting shit for Christmas.

  21. Well, Rob in Massachusetts sums up ignorance and bigotry quite well. It's rather amusing that his focus seems to be on gay "men". I would not be surprised if "Rob" owns lesbian pornography as heterosexual men seem more "tolerant" of gay females than males. Freud is spinning in his grave. Rob, it seems your focus is on the act of homosexuality, more appropriately the act of two "men", which leads to the obvious psychoanalytical point that perhaps your "issue" is an internal struggle with your own sexuality.

Most heterosexual individuals who are comfortable with their sexuality do not interfere with the private lives of others.

Most individuals who are comfortable with their sexuality do not frequent homosexual oriented blogs and leave long comments regarding their intolerance and bigotry.

Most heterosexual individuals comfortable with their sexuality do not spend $200+ million to enact law that denies American's of their "inalienable rights".

Let's take your comment and turn it on its head.

"Why do I, instinctively and uncontrollably, find heterosexual men to be disgusting beyond words?

Why do I find just the thought of having another woman make any kind of sexual contact with me to be an unfathomable nightmare?

Why, from the time I was a small boy to the present, has masculine behaviour by men, gay or not, illicited a knee-jerk response in me that is violent in nature?

Why, when I was raised to be "tolerant" and was never taught to "hate", do I have no tolerance whatsoever for straight men and absolutely hate men who "love" women?

Why do I, irregardless of what anyone says to the contrary, find heterosexual behaviour to be a freakish abonimation of nature and/or, again in my opinion, some sort of personality disorder or mental illness?

I realize we are ALL human beings and no one should ever be dehumanized, but.. I know I will never be able to accept heterosexual behaviour as being anything other than an incredible nasty and revolting perversity.

The way I, and many, many others, feel about straight men will not change with time or by arguments because the facts behind the matter will not change, straight men will always be doing what straight men do: behaving like bigots and performing sexual acts on each other when drunk that have been considered to be illegal and immoral (at best) for centuries.

The only way the straight issue will ever go away is if straights go away.

I cannot help but wonder how the "straight community" would react if someday in the future we were to find a way through genetic science to conclusively and once and for all show that this is indeed an abnormality and a condition that is reversable. My prediction: Flaming outrage."

    Sounds good to me.

Happy Holidays Rob and remember to smile when passing that gravy boat of stupidity and hate. Cheerio.

  22. PS ROB

True heterosexuals are too busy thinking about sex with women, too busy trying to have more sex with women, too busy trying to earn more money to buy a nice car to impress more women to have sex with them, etc to bother worrying themselves about gays.

    Posted by: Jimmyboyo | Dec 20, 2008 11:40:39 AM

  23. Oh Rob, honnie chil', you got some demons in you. Keep telling yourself your straight when you're sucking your friends dick. Keep telling yourself you're straight when you're getting off to the money shot at the end of your porn (after all, all straight guys like that, right?). Keep telling yourself you're straight when you fantasize about that quarterback "sack". Keep telling your "girlfriend" - "Oh babe, not tonight, I have a head ache" (they make Excedrin for that Rob).

We've all been there Rob, we've all dealt with our own inner "demons". When you're ready to accept yourself, we'll still welcome you with open arms...

Keep telling yourself that you're "straight", maybe someday you'll believe it...

...and sweetie, mother's always know, something tells me your mom is already registered with PFLAG...

  24. Well, it's quite simple. People are soooooo full of hatred, that they will do anything to lash out. Gee, I think there are a few other issues that really need to be addressed before we waste time AND MONEY on trying to reverse a marriage between same sex couples. The people who are attempting to do this are the ones who bring us into wars, cause conflicts, and have created the negative situations that this world is currently experiencing. Wake up people! If we don't all get along, we are destined for failure as a society.

  25. Well Craig,You stated the obvious, but truth be told, these people (mentally retarded str8 people who spend everyday of their, working overtime to express hate toward gays)will never listen. They are blinded by their own stupidity and ignorance (which is another obvious fact) This is why Im so glad and proud to be an atheist. If god truly did exist,I highly doubt we would be dealing with this much hate in the world.AND....As powerful as this alleged god is presumed to be,these hateful str8 people (Rather if they are Morman or not and regardless of if they practice any kind of religion)God would strike them dead right in their tracks.Through the years I have become so bitter and stone-cold toward most str8 people (particularly str8 men) because of their ill-minded attitude and gross behavior toward gay men.I find str8 men to be repulsive and I REFUSE to even be bothered with any of their bullshit.Save that drama for ur mama.Str8 men shouldnt flatter themselves because frankly they are LOZERS and I could careless for their presence.
