Towleroad Guide to the Tube #417

LESBIAN AND GAY BAND ASSOCIATION: In case you missed it, here's their appearance in the inaugural parade. Here's our interview with a few of its members.

GENE ROBINSON: The Washington Blade interviews the Episcopal Bishop. Corey and I pursued Robinson throughout inauguration weekend, but always seemed to be two events behind him.

SWEARING IN: At the swearing in of senior White House staff, Biden jokes about Justice Roberts' oath gaffe and Obama doesn't appear to be amused.

CAROLINE KENNEDY: She withdraws from Senate consideration "for personal reasons." NY Post: Paterson decided against her.

  1. Hillary Clinton has certainly had a good week. Talking Obama out of sending Bill into proverbial exile. Getting confirmed as Secretary of State by a vote of 94 to 2. Nabbing a 66% national approval rating (she hasn't seen numbers like that since before the "socialized medicine" campaign of 1993). And now, the news that Kennedy won't be sitting in her New York Senate seat. Well, that's just icing on the cake, isn't it?

  2. With Biden around it's like the imbecilic George Bush never left.

Hopefully Obama can bury him in Dick Cheney's secret hidey cave for the next several years.

  4. I was impressed that both Roberts and Obama were willing to re-administer the oath, in keeping with precedent, just to be sure. As Obama probably had to make a special request to the chief justice (through the acting AG?), Biden's joke was somewhat nasty.

  5. It was a harmless joke by a man with wit. I hope my new President isn't so desperate to avoid early confrontations with conservatives that he can't laugh at a cute joke. It's his own party he has to keep in line for now.

Joe Biden should be more important to him than that semi-fascist Chief Justice.

Maybe he didn't understand what VP Joe said at all--you can start to loose your hearing in your mid-forties, you know.

Lighten up, Mr President! (no pun intended).
