  2. Andy: The third caption should say "unavailable to the Obamas" not "unavailable to the Obama's".

  3. I don't know exactly what happened to Obama's own residence that he has been using while serving as a Senator for the last several years, but if Margaret Carlson "has a feeling" that the Australian was invited as an excuse to keep Obama out of Blair House, that's all the proof I need that conspiracy is afoot!

It's extremely sad to see that we are now living in a post-factual era where "journalists" report their feelings as if they were both true and newsworthy.

I hope the National Enquirer can find an opening for Carlson and Olbermann, because neither one belongs on a news channel. I doubt that they would be the standards of the Enquirer for that matter. Perhaps the Weekly World News.

  4. Wow, that information about the Blair House is really a big shock. It was transparent from the beginning. The Bush administration was clearly being at the very least a bunch of petty bastards (Repubs are pretty well known for being sore losers), at most racist. Though I'm not sure the Obamas will really be "moving twice." I'm quite sure that they didn't move many of their possessions into the Hay-Adams, and I'm equally certain that they won't be spending a lot of their time unpacking moving boxes.

As for Moore v. Gupta, I've always found it difficult to listen to Moore---even though I agree with 95 percent of his views and am sympathhetic to most of the rest. His approach is too often immature and needlessly aggressive, undermining his arguments even when he's right. Gupta comes off just fine here.

  5. I remember watching the Gupta diatribe right when Sicko was out and getting a bit pissed off about it. Yes, Michael Moore added a bit of drama to Sicko but his facts were sound. He was very careful about that point because he knew the forces of the Medical Insurance establishment would try to discredit his report. Gupta throws out the Red Herring of taxes going up... well duh... but the point which was ignored and glossed over was that you won't be paying insurance premiums or ridiculous co-pays or deductibles, so your net costs will be LOWER. I would hope that in his role as Surgeon General if that happens he would be pro-active and lead this country down the road to single payer. That is the only way we are going to get costs under control.

  6. from Paul Krugman at the NY Times:

    The trouble with Sanjay Gupta

So apparently Obama plans to appoint CNN’s Sanjay Gupta as Surgeon General. I don’t have a problem with Gupta’s qualifications. But I do remember his mugging of Michael Moore over Sicko. You don’t have to like Moore or his film; but Gupta specifically claimed that Moore “fudged his facts”, when the truth was that on every one of the allegedly fudged facts, Moore was actually right and CNN was wrong.

Many commenters don’t seem to get the point. Gupta didn’t say “Michael Moore is an annoying blowhard”; he didn’t say “We question his interpretation of the evidence”; he said he “fudged the facts”. In other words, he accused Moore of lying. That’s a very strong accusation, which had better be backed by solid evidence. Instead, we had CNN misreading a number from Moore; CNN objecting to Moore using a projected health care spending number for 2007 instead of an actual number for 2005 (and the projection was right, by the way); CNN accusing Moore of not showing a number that was in fact right there in the movie. And Gupta did not apologize, except for the misread number.

  7. RJ,

i agree that Gupta is a bad choice. if obama wanted to appoint an Indian from India to round out his symbolic but ill- conceived notion of america, he may as well have chosen the purveyer of platitudes which double as mysticism, deepak chopra. alas, celebrity begets celebrity.

or, since we're playing fast and loose with symbolism, why stop at gay-baiters (rick warren)? in the interest of open-mindedness, why not let a holocaust-denier deliver the invocation? why not let the grandest wizard of the muck and mire enjoy his day in the sun? xtianists and nazis are two sides of the same coin. gupta is a slave to big pharma, rick warren is a thorn in the side of gays, liberals, leftists,, and the non-religious. and so it goes.... so much for change.

  8. Paul C, you shouldn't expect anything better from Olbermann's show.

Boo hoo hoo! The Messiah can't use Blair House! How terrible!

And speaking of Olbermann, any suggestion that he has the intelligence to take down Ann Coulter is absurd! Coulter has more brains in her pinky than the Olbermaniac has in his entire body. Only leftist tools pay attention to Keith Olbermann.

As for the message from Impact Florida, shove it! I didn't work to elect Obama.
