Parents Sue School for Inviting Lesbian Pastor to 'Diversity Day'
A group of parents are suing Castro Valley High School in California because it allowed this lesbian pastor to speak on the school's "diversity day". Apparently the parents were never taught the meaning of diversity so they won't allow their kids to learn it either. Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

Hey, Mom in tasteless pink outfit, your son must be real proud of an upstanding bigot like you! If he grows up to be a gay-basher there will be no shock at all. How utterly pathetic are those 31 parents. Assh*les and mornons!

Wow this is clearly in response to prop 8, since this was her third time doing the event. She's a CHRISTIAN pastor, people! She's not trampling on your values!

Oh well - I guess that means Rachel Maddow won't be speaking at Castro Valley High anytime in the future...........boy is she going to have a field day with this tonight!!!!!!!!!!

This is ludicrous beyond words. The idea that California is some sort of bastion of progressive thinking is becoming more and more obsolete. Would they scrutinize anyone else coming to diversity day for content and "character"? No. This is blatant discrimination, and our interests are better served being able to contact the school board to show support. Anyone have the info on that?

I read these types of stories everyday, and it just makes me sick to my stomach.
Nice lesson the parents are teaching their kids. So they really think they can keep every single gay person away from their kids for their entire lives? ...and what exactly is the pastor's insidious agenda that the homophobic mom was referring to?

How sad.
The mother mentioned their values. What about the values of others? They're accusing the school of ignoring theirs. I want to know who else spoke on "Diversity Day." I guarantee the suing parents' views were represented. So how are they being trampled?
Communicating someone else's values is NOT trampling on others. The parents simply want only their views depicted and none other. THAT'S trampling.

Not that it's anywhere near the most important issue here, but maybe these parents should be more worried about the fact that their broke ass state and the massive budget cuts that the school is going to be facing. Just saying.

Does anyone else find it ironic that a California school named Castro that is home of the Trojans has issues with lesbians?

I want to see these idiots get laughed out of court.

The wingnuts had this story back on May 8 and even made it their poll of the day. They're all frothing at the mouth and urging everyone to yank their kids out of school where they teach such filth:

Well, they're obviously hateful idiots, but at least from the story that was linked to, the "suit" is just a FOIA suit to get all the correspondence from the school. Hard to imagine any substantive legal case they'd have against the school under these facts.

I feel so sad for the kids.

WOW ... IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE INFURIATED BY A BUNCH OF IGNORANT F*CKS... I’D STAY AWAY FROM READING THAT FORUM.
Nothing get my blood pressure up like posts from the narrow-minded, ignorant, and bigoted so called “Christians” out there.
Love thy neighbor my ASS! Well, As long as he’s EXACTLY like you!

Sued for what?? They don't have much of a case. They must be hoping the school will settle before it gets to court.

@ Ryan
Well what more would you expect from a bunch of socially-retarded morons who spend their entire lives preachin' "holier than thou" bullshit. These people are sick bastards who get off on being narrow minded,non-intelligent,self righteous narcissistic douche-bags and being BIGOTS from their empty head all the way to their fungus covered toes.

Ok so aside from going off the handle and making catty remarks about that (bigoted) mother's blouse and hair and makeup and making these one liners against fundementalists......what exactly are WE doing that is counter productive in this story? How are WE showing our presence to that school district and making sure they realize there are millions of Americans who embrace them, embrace that they embrace diversity and that not all of us share bigoted views like those parents?
Where's a link? a contact info for the school's administration? a petition of our own?
In a time when gay bashing and bullying at schools is at an alarming all time high, and 10 year olds are commiting suicide due to being taunted for their sexuality, I think now more than ever ALL schools need to promote a "Diversity Day" and it's *OUR* responsibility as a community to make sure we support those who do, and educate those who don't.
Gay individuals venting on gay blogs regarding gay issues (and not taking it out of that box) reminds me of the Prop 8 protests AFTER Prop 8 passed.....on the streets of West Hollywood and Casrto. Real effective.
The Christians are on the crazy pills, but one thing I always give them is....they know how to be heard. We usually just stick to catty remarks about them under our own umbrellas then go club hopping the night away.

WTF! Castro Valley is just across the bay from San Francisco. Que horror!! Is San Francisco, Berkeley, and maybe Palo Alto the only remaining cities in the Bay Area that embraces diversity, and I mean the true meaning of diversity.
S**t! Now I have more reasons not to go over to that side of the bay.

Do any of these parents even know what the topic was? I'm pretty sure it was diversity and respecting those who are different and not "The way to salvation" or "how to pick up girls."
