Dennis and Judy Shepard Discuss Hate Crimes Bill

As I mentioned in the round-up, the federal hate crimes bill went before the Senate Judiciary Committee today. Attorney General Eric Holder testified, strongly urging passage of the act.

You can read Holder's testimony HERE (PDF).

CNN's Kyra Phillips talked to Dennis and Judy Shepard about their late son Matthew, for whom the bill is named, and the bill itself.

Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP...

  2. Michael said it best - They Don't Really Care About Us

"Tell me what has become of my rights
Am I invisible because you ignore me?
Your proclamation promised me free liberty, now
I'm tired of bein' the victim of shame
They're throwing me in a class with a bad name
I can't believe this is the land from which I came
You know I do really hate to say it
    The government don't wanna see
    But if Roosevelt was livin'
    He wouldn't let this be,"

  3. Maybe Judy Shepard looks exhausted because she knows what a farce it is that a hate crimes bill be named after her son even though her son was not the victim of a hate crime???
