Gay Marriage Legal in 'The Sims 3'
Lyle Masaki at AfterElton tested the new version of The Sims to see if gays and lesbians could get married like any other couple. He reports: "...after a week of game time, I was able to get a male couple to plan a wedding party and tie the knot."

They're getting married in the woods. Was this like a pagan thing? Was the officiator a lesbian high priestess with a stick?

How long, I wonder, until someone creates a "Prop 8" software update patch?! :-/
In the meantime, congrats to the virtual couples out there in cyberspace! ;-)

Gays are also allowed to join the military...

The question is..does the game called it "joined" or "married"?
Cause in The Sims 2, they could get "joined", but it was never called marriage.

To be fair, same-sex couples have been allowed in the game from the start. I seem to recall an article years ago where Wil Wright (creator of the Sims) said something about an internal discussion on what kinds of romantic relationships would be allowed in the game: same-sex, yes!; adult/child, no. (I'll see if it's available online somewhere.)
Incidentally, the game's publisher, Electronic Arts, has a pretty good track record on how it treats its LGBT employees according to HRC's Corporate Equality Index.

DEVON: it is called married in Sims 3, although there is a hack for Sims 2 for marriage instead of joined. It also has a note next to Sims to see how they're related to one another. Two married male Sims are referred to as husbands & boyfriends, etc.

A male couple married after only one week?
Well the time-frame is definitely in heterosexual mode.
