Abercrombie's Little Bros
Hollister's SoHo flagship doesn't open until Thursday, but the chain has already employed a set of scrubbed-smooth lifeguards to watch over it. No doubt you'll be noting how they stand out in Manhattan.

The 3rd guy needs to learn how to pose.

Good to know Hollister is sticking to A&F's Aryan roots.

Gheezuz those short-longs or are they long-shorts look stupid. They really detract from the 20somethings with lean bodies, and goodness knows there is a shortage of them to parade in front of Gay men.

Board shorts and flip-flops, the innovation is killing me.

Hollister Sucks!

the models are as boring as the "fashions". at least they know who their market is.

Hey RAF - how would you like it if I said that it was good to know Phat Farm was sticking to it's African-American roots?
How is it okay one way and not the other? Stop making a racial issue about EVERYTHING.

aren't shorts that go below the knees called kulats or some such womanly thing?
Hell, MEN's shorts shouldn't go lower than right above the top of the knees . Anything lower is girly girl and might as well be an ankle long dress
My critic is not an endorsement of booty shorts either.

oy, any guy that thinks he's the shit for working in a specific retail store is off the list.. even if he looks like that

the Mormon Elders sure have come a long way with their missionary outfits.

hey Andy,
AF's fashion ethos has always been white, white, white, lily-fucking-white. Their catalog once featured a buck-toothed china-man and the Asian community rightly and successfully called for it's withdrawal. So yes, Aryan it is.
Posted by: bading | Jul 13, 2009 6:40:48 PM
addendum:
not to mention t-shirts that depicted Asian caricatures with slanted eyes, conical hats and slogans such as "Wong Brothers Laundry Service: Two Wongs Can Make It White." Another features an image of the Buddha along with the slogan, "Buddha Bash -- Get Your Buddha On the Floor."

Tired, tired, tired of the Aberclonebies and their exclusive lily-white persona.
It's sad gay men have bought into this marketing ploy -- just because there's always some young beefcake. If it weren't for the teens, gay men would nearly single-handedly keep A&F and Hollister in business.

I'd like to hand them a bag of cheeseburgers and force them to eat them. So skinny!

I would say the teens don't buy AF and never have except for cheap AF t-shirts.
Clothes clothes like shorts, jeans, shirts, jackets all bought by gay men. the teens only by the AF t shirts with AF on them.

Andy,
You don't seem to understand that A&F has been sued for discrimination in its hiring at its store and corporate offices.
How would you like it if someone dismissed your concerns about homophobia, pretending that homophobia doesn't exist.
Posted by: nate | Jul 13, 2009 7:55:00 PM
1) the A&F company got sued and lost because it regularly put all it's non-white employees in the back... if they were hired. So yeah, it hold water.
2) Joan Crawford would know a thing or two about being cheap, being a cheap skank herself (Bette4life)

Jimmyboyo: I'd disagree, around here -- upper-middle class suburban central Jersey -- the kids here are AF fans, girls and boys. At the three malls near me -- Short Hills, Bridgewater Commons and Menlo Park -- the A&F's are always filled with groups of teen girls, and boys with their moms.
It makes me wonder about gay men and their desire to look like adolescents, "jocks", whatever... probably the same group that tormented the gay kids in high school. Secretly gays really lusted after them, right?
Posted by: Mack10 | Jul 13, 2009 8:04:22 PM
oh for god sakes you pompous fools get over yourselves, it's a promtional ploy. Aryan ??? the middle one looks a little dark to be considered Aryan and the one on the left has a distinct Irish look about him? Quoting Joan Carwford about flip flops you clearly haven't been looking to carefully at guys in the West Village, Chelsea, East Viallage Soho etc too much have you there ggreen??? If any of those three nudged any of you critics in a bar with "hey, let's go back to my place" you be'd out of there in a shot...and bragging to your friends the next day about the hottie you nailed or vice versa
Posted by: nyrkr | Jul 13, 2009 8:10:34 PM
@NYRKR
Doubtful. In regards to physical looks and as one of those hotties, I prefer bears.
Posted by: Washington | Jul 13, 2009 8:30:45 PM
@ nyrkr: You're missing the point. We weren't discussing the attractiveness of the models. We're discussing the ugly and overly-obvious discrimination policies of the company.
Posted by: Mack10 | Jul 13, 2009 8:35:28 PM
Aryans can't have tans? That'll come as news to Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Besides, the issue isn't the models themselves. They're just doing their job. It is the company that hires them.
Abercrombie and Fitch's long-standing legal troubles - mostly racism related I might add - have been spoofed by everyone from Mad TV to Family Guy. This isn't just an inside joke for the gays. The mainstream media has picked up on the A&F "Aryans only" phenomenon for quite some time.
Posted by: John | Jul 13, 2009 8:54:10 PM
I'm sorry, but how is this "news". I can see the paperboys shouting this now:
"Extra! Extra! Three semi-clothed boys stand outside shop! Read all about it!"
Seriously, get a clue.
