Case Dropped Against Gay Couple Who Kissed on Mormon Property

A Salt Lake City couple who kissed on a plaza adjacent to the Mormon Temple in Salt Lake City earlier this month and were arrested will not be charged, the Salt Lake Tribune reports:

Slckissin "The privately owned plaza, with its wide promenade and gate-less entrance, is too inviting and appears too much like a public passageway. Consequently, Salt Lake City Prosecutor Sim Gill said Wednesday he will not prosecute a gay couple cited for trespassing after they shared a kiss on the plaza. 'The two individuals believed -- albeit mistakenly -- that they had the right to be there,' Gill said. 'Fairness requires that either that property be not open to the public or you condition that [openness] in a way that the person who comes on understands that it is private property.'  Gill said his decision not to prosecute this particular case "should not be viewed as limiting" the ability of the church to enforce its private-property rights on the plaza in the future. 'Going forward,' he said, 'working toward clarity [on the plaza] serves everyone's interests in this community.' Gill's analysis cites the lack of signs on the plaza that indicate visitors are entering private property 'at will,' meaning they can be ejected at any time for any reason."

The incident inspired demonstrations and protest "kiss-ins" in Salt Lake City and San Diego, and prompted two activists to launch a nationwide kiss-in in response, which is taking place on August 15th in cities around the nation.

  4. 'Homophobic' is a term invented to explain away the correct reactions to your repulsive and harmful lifestyle. Have you even READ the history of our religion? If you had instead of engaging in your sinful activities - burning in your own sin - you would know we love all people. As for narrow minds ... sometimes it's GOOD to have a narrow mind when it comes to confronting sin and perversion. But I suppose this is pearls before swine I suspect.

  5. Which version of the history of your religion? The comic book you call the Book of Mormon? Or actual historic accounts? Smith was the L Ron Hubbard of his day. So, dude or dudette or dud, whichever you happen to be, here's the thing. LGBT folks are tired of being treated as second-class citizens, we're taking steps and we're not going away, so you just better get used to it. You play in your sandbox and we'll play in ours: which happens to include all public spaces.

  6. Mormonism is perhaps the most destructive cult in America. Its adherents have the single highest rates of child neglect, suicide, child abuse, and mental depression of any American religion. The Mormon hierarchy always tries to enforce its views through domination of civil law over Christians and other non-Mormons. For example, they spent millions of dollars opposing the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Equal Rights Amendment, and the legalization of inter-racial and same-sex marriage. Of course, given that Brigham Young and Joseph Smith were aggressive and promiscuous pedophiles who enslaved dozens of 'wives' each (many young underage girls), it is not surprising that the religion has largely immoral policies.
