Kanye West and Lady Gaga Kill 'Fame Kills' Tour; 50 Cent Apologizes for 'Gay' Remarks
Kanye West and Lady Gaga's 'Fame Kills' tour has been canceled, MTV reports:
"Rumors about the tour's possible cancellation have been swirling for days, largely related to the negative publicity stemming from West's interruption of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards last month. The tour, which West abruptly announced during a television appearance in the spring and was scheduled to launch on November 10 in Phoenix, was oddly not confirmed by either of the artists' reps until mid-September."
TMZ reports: "...we're told his concert tour with Lady Gaga was scrapped because ticket sales sucked. And "sucked" happens to be a nicer version of the word we were told. And not only that -- our insiders say another factor in the cancellation was West and Gaga's people were at each others throats like their last names were Gosselin. When it came down do it, we're told Gaga decided she'd be better off playing smaller venues ... and far from the headache caused by Kanye's ever present drama."
Rapper 50 Cent came under fire yesterday for remarks he made about the tour to radio host Angie Martinez in which he labeled it 'the gay tour', mocking Kanye for taking his CD to Ellen Degeneres because she has a gay audience.

50 Cent later released a statement on his site: “During an interview with Angie Martinez yesterday, certain comments I made were taken entirely out of context. When I referred to the Lady Gaga tour as the “gay tour” I was basically repeating what I thought she had referred to the tour in the past. It was not my intention to offend anyone. I don’t have a problem with anyone’s lifestyle and have no issue with Lady Gaga, she makes great music."
In fact, Gaga did tell OUT magazine about an ultimatum she gave Kanye: "I just want to be clear before we decide to do this together: I’m gay. My music is gay. My show is gay. And I love that it’s gay. And I love my gay fans and they’re all going to be coming to our show. And it’s going to remain gay."

Not everyone moves their lips when they read, or has trouble following the directions on a pop-top can of Pepsi, like you and your PR handlers apparently do. Maybe 50 cent finally figured out that sponsors don't like homophobes as spokesmen. Notice how he's not shilling for Vitamin Water anymore. Not coincidental.

He's not shilling for Vitamin Water anymore because his shares in the company were purchased by Coke... and he made a bazillion dollars in the deal.

Regardless of 50 Cent's homophobic reputation, I think having to apologize for calling it "the gay tour" is a little hyper-sensitive....i've heard it called "the Gay Tour" by the gayest of the gay!!!
Granted, someone who is already in such poor standing shouldn't be flapping their gums, but still....

Symptoms abound, but the real underlying disease here is our unshakable conviction that the opinions of celebrities actually mean something. The problem is not what's said, but rather with how we listen.
These people are product. Their music is product. Their bad behavior is product. Their opinions are product. Reading the commentary here is like listening to children complain that their toys said a Bad Word.
There being no such thing as bad publicity, you support the product every time you say its name. It doesn't matter what else you say - the game is to make you repeat the product's name, and every time you do, you lose. In a media culture, condemning the product just causes it to metastasize into more product. Indignation is an ad campaign more effective than any money can ever buy.
Our history as gay people has taught us that silence equals death, and it's true. But when we're talking about the death of a toxic product, silence is a tool for justice. Your silence can be a very effective nonviolent weapon. Celebrities, in particular, are celebrities only so long as we give them our attention. We are the fuel for their fire and the gas in their tank.
Look up the Amish practice of shunning. It's nonviolent, inexpensive, and very effective. Shun these products and the people who represent them. Shun this article, which serves to promote them by condemning them.
Really... Didn't your mother ever tell you "Don't pay attention - they'll only do it again, worse"? Of course doing that requires that we have more self possession than the product that's annoying us, and was probably beyond our reach as children.
Are we still children?
