Fundies: ‘Do Not Be Fooled’ by Gay-Friendly LDS Actions

Mormonresponse

The right-wing group America Forever has responded to the LDS Church's endorsement of the Salt Lake City gay rights ordinance by faxing 80,000 over their followers with the fax above.

8: The Mormon Proposition writes: "…we cannot forget that when the Mormon Prophet or Apostles speak what
Mormons believe to be the literal word of God, their membership reacts.
And this is the reaction of one of the Mormon Church's most vocal
anti-gay groups."

There is a video on YouTube called “Obama Killer Song”. It appears to be a long-distance suck-up to Glen Beck.

Some white guys (one in an Obama mask) who can’t sing for shit, assaulting an old Simon and Garfunkle tune and telling you about the horrible things Obama plans to do to this nation (in other words, they’re spouting Faux News talking points).

Read the comments. There’s some real thalidomide babies on the right! All they can say is that everything in the video is true (presumably because Glen Beck told them to think that way.)

I legit almost gagged on my own vomit!?!?!? I can’t believe that their sole arguement is to SAVEEE ZEYYY CHILDREN!?!!? You are BORN homosexual, so some of those children are gay. ASSHOLES. Enough of this “Lifestyle” bullshit.

    Heh-heh-heh…

Went to their website. Was hoping to find a toll-free number. No such luck, but I did find this little nugget:

“Overwhelmingly, the gay agenda is liberal, Godless, and very outspoken. Therefore, if we don’t support their agenda, we need to be as outspoken and as straightforward as they are. Moreover, they are intolerant and do not emulate any Christian Ethics. Stand up and Help!”

LOL. “Christian Ethics”. What a fucking oxymoron!!

  4. Jamie says

Yeah, I agree. I’ve been around a lot of Mormons my whole life, and while their leaders are among the most corrupt dirt bags out there, but for the most part, the members actually do try to be good people (even though they’ll do anything those leaders tell them to). This is not the work/nor the universal perspective of the Mormon membership. Its leaders wouldn’t bother with any of this crap either. This is likely the work of the same fucked up zealots and fanatics that have been storing and burying guns down around Manti planning their perverse militant coup. Sure, the screwy conservative agenda the Mormon Church endorses is the source of these radical extremists (which are everywhere in Utah Valley especially), just like Fred Phelps is the fringe of what he calls the Christian Movement. But they really are motivated by a different “calling” if you will, than the run of the mill Mormon possesses.

As far as the motives of the Church getting behind this recent charade of gay goodwill? They are nothing if not masters of their own P.R. I’d sooner believe that golden Moroni statue on top of the Salt Lake Temple blew “Free, Gay, and Happy” out his ass on Pride Day, than believe those old coots had anything but their own best interests in mind when they got behind that bill.

May I add the disclaimer that I am in no way defending or endorsing the record or history of that Mormon Church – the entity of which I consider a black, corporate hole of darkness and hate. There is no forgiveness for what they did in California with Prop 8, Hawaii, Alaska, Maine, and Florida. You name it, the paper trail in every bigoted case goes right back to the bigoted and covert, secretive, Mormon “Apostles.” Keep digging guys. You’ll find the bigot blood on their bigoted hands, even if you have to dig it out of their hidden stone canyon vaults with all the other secrets of their past they want to disappear. There is not a Christ-like bone in their hate-poisoned bodies. Yeah, sorry. I don’t care for that church.

What is this bullshit in their article about gays not being a race. You don’t have to be a race to qualify for discrimination protection. Don’t they realize that religious beliefs, disabled people, gender are also not a race but they are also included.

  6. Admiral Ackbar says

    from a utah gay paper:

    Who is America Forever?

The group was started in 1999 by Sandra Rodrigues and her then-18-year-old brother Jonas M. R. Filho. Filho acted as president, registered agent and secretary and Rodriguez was vice president. Josie Ann Rodrigues was listed as treasurer. News reports over the past decade have always referred to the group as being made of of Rodrigues’ family.

On the group’s Web site, the home page reads, “Do Not Be Fooled By Equality Utah and The Common Ground Initiative,” a statement available on the group’s Web site says. “They are using intimadation [sic] to gain ground and are lying to the public, ALL THEY WANT IS MARRIAGE RIGHTS to valdite [sic] their relationship of the same-sex!!! THEY ALREADY HAVE THE RIGHT to Marry, a gay man can marry a gay woman! If they want Marriage Rights then get married, but we cannot afford the same rights of Marriage to other relationships for it will devaluate [sic] Marriage and change society’s perception of what Marriage is!!!”

The group advocates the term “anti-species” instead of homosexual, lesbian and gay, on the grounds that homosexuality does not continue the human species. Its literature says that the mention of homosexuality to anyone younger than 18 should be a crime, and sexual practices that do not lead to children should be banned.

Rodrigues immigrated to the United States in 1975. Indeed, several years of the group’s efforts were around the rights of children born in the United States to undocumented immigrants. They started an initiative called “Save the Innocence” calling on the government to address the problem.

The group came to the attention of authorities in 1999 after complaints from the Mexican consulate said it was selling identification cards for $200 to illegal residents that ask the Immigration and Naturalization Service not to deport them. The money also allowed them to place their pictures in a book that was given to politicians in Washington, D.C., to explain the plight of illegal immigrants whose children are citizens.

The consulate and state residents complained to the Idaho and Utah state commissions on Hispanic Affairs.

It was decided that, while the identification cards were worthless, they were not illegal.

The campaign Save the Innocence immigration campaign fizzled in 2001 the rhetoric on their Web site turned to anti-gay content.

Rodrigues and others in the group have traveled to California to stop a gay-stright alliance there, to Washington, D.C. to protest with signs saying, “Stop Same Sex Marriage: It Endorses Masturbation.” They also testified at a Salt Lake City Council meeting that the ACLU and “the most powerful lobbying firm in the world, the HRC of the homosexuals” were to blame for the controversy over the LDS Church’s Main Street Plaza.

The group has remained quiet, other than updating their Web site to endorse Se. John McCain in the presidential race, since 2006.

Amen, Jamie… and it’s obvious that ad wasn’t put out by the Mormon leadership, as the LAST thing I’d think they’d want to start a public conversation about is their history with Civil Rights. Yeah, let’s delve into things like the LDS going to court to keep African-Americans out of leadership positions in the Boy Scouts in the 70s. THAT’s a conversation I’m sure they’d like everybody to be having right now.

LOL… these rightwing groups aren’t ultimately doing the Mormon leadership a favor here. If the major GLBT movement got some guts (instead of adopting an “oh, please, please help poor pitiful us” stance a lot of the time), they’d use attacks like this to turn our enemies against one another. Get the non-Mormon wingnuts constantly babbling about the Civil Rights movement so simultaneously you’d see: 1) the LDS’ actual history on the subject exposed, which would make Mormon leaders 2) furious with these other rightwing groups, and less willing to jump in and work beside them. Divide and conquer.

“Its literature says that the mention of homosexuality to anyone younger than 18 should be a crime, and sexual practices that do not lead to children should be banned.”

So they want to ban the bible for anyone under 18, and outlaw sex altogether for women over 45 (give or take a few years – predicting the onset of menopause is not an exact science)?

How are they going to outlaw masturbation?
DEATH FOR TEEN BOYS WHO SPEND MORE THAN 10 MINUTES IN THE SHOWER!!!!! And I guess we could develop bed linens with electrical wiring (like an electric blanket) that would electrocute anyone who has a nocturnal emission.

Well, we do agree with them on one point. I’m all for the bible ban they’re advocating!!!

  9. jake says

This group is not the enemy. Just because Salt Lake City has learned a PR lesson, and will appear to play nicer for a while, they are still like a Grizzly Bear. All warm and cuddly until they get hungry again and they always get hungry again.

Trust me, it is only a matter of time before the truth of the funding for the latest round of anti-gay politicing in Maine, Washington, and even Africa came from. My guess 80% Mormon, 15% Roman Catholic, 5% other wackos.

  10. Derrick from Philly says

Wait a minute…notice how they used an interracial couple in the photograph showing two men kissing. White guy with a big ol’ giant black man. What’s that suppose to signify? The loss of the white mans’ masculinity and power? Aint that somethin’…the motha’ fuckas.

  11. Representative Christine Johnson says

Please pay no regard to this little group. They consist of six family members, all immigrants from Brazil who harass and intimidate gay people. Writing about them and blogging about them only gives them the attention and clout they have not earned nor deserve. They do not present factual argument based upon Constitutionality and only their desperate and irrational homophobia. Really want to piss them off? Delete the blog entry. Last year they called me a “Waste of a Vagina” and were repeatedly threatening resulting in increased Highway Patrol presence at nearly all my committee meetings.

I ignore them as much as possible and encourage you to do the same.

  12. Just the Facts, no bloviating says

Marriage reflects the natural moral and social law evidenced the world over. As the late British social anthropologist Joseph Daniel Unwin noted in his study of world civilizations, any society that devalued the nuclear family soon lost what he called “expansive energy,” which might best be summarized as society’s will to make things better for the next generation. In fact, no society that has loosened sexual morality outside of man-woman marriage has survived.

Analyzing studies of cultures spanning several thousands of years on several continents, Harvard sociologist Pitirim Sorokin found that virtually all political revolutions that brought about societal collapse were preceded by a sexual revolution in which marriage and family were devalued by the culture’s acceptance of homosexuality.

When marriage loses its unique status, women and children most frequently are the direct victims. Giving same-sex relationships or out-of-wedlock heterosexual couples the same special status and benefits as the marital bond would not be the expansion of a right but the destruction of a principle. . If the one-man/one-woman definition of marriage is broken, there is no logical stopping point for continuing the assault on marriage.

    @JLS

I linked this story to some of my friends JUST BECAUSE of the like 13 different fonts going on here. Also, the size of the text gets smaller and smaller as you read down the page. WTF.

  15. Zach says

I doubt the troll will return, but for the record, I doubt Unwin is currently quoted outside of religious circles. Reducing societal collapse to notions of ‘expansive energy’ is ludicrous. Moreover, I challenge the entire idea of societal collapse; it’s a rather essentialist way of viewing history.

In Cambridge, MA the Mormon’s are building a huge, new, fancy meeting center/church directly across the street from the Manhunt office. I’m pretty sure the Mormon’s don’t know, but the boys at Manhunt approving cock pics all day are watching the place be built from their desks. Justice!

  17. Rikard says

I appreciate everyone talking about this and the blogs that post it. The more attention we can bring to the outrageous fringe the more they push others toward the center. They don’t influence people to change their minds and agree with them. They alienate anyone near them. The Phelps family hasn’t gathered any new church members.
