David Beckham took part in a 10-minute gag sketch by British comic James Corden and his character 'Coach Smithy' which was broadcast as part of BBC Sport Relief night.

While the sketch featured other famous British athletes, the centerpiece joke played off of the close off-screen friendship between Corden and Becks.

you may recall Corden's parody of Beckham's Armani underwear ad.

  1. I'm hard pressed to think of an American coach or athlete who is as comfortable in his sexuality that would be willing to do this on a major awards show, like ESPN--the "humor" would be much more sour and homophobic. Props to Beckham and Corden (and the other participants) for pulling this off. (And Corden's a cutie in a bearish way, but Amir!! Wowza.)

  2. So David will do spots like this but professional English "football" can't find a single professional player to appear in an "kick homophobia out of sports" ad?

Does that mean the not even "gay friendly" Beckham would agree to appear in such an ad?
