Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson: Gay Pride and Twilight Unite

Twigays

Anybody else feeling the gay vibe from this cover?

It's extremely rare to see two major male stars of a non-gay film paired up like this (on a magazine that's not called 'OUT') while their romantic lead co-star is featured on a separate cover.

  1. On the gay vibe: uh, yeah. The pose is very "Taylor, fondle Robert; Robert, grab Taylor's ass!"

On Kristen Stewart elsewhere: she is the most sullen "romantic lead" ever. No wonder Sad Sack gets her own cover...this one appeals to the cougars, the gays, and the young girls. It's a fairly smart marketing strategy.

  3. I don't get a gay vibe from this AT ALL. This is sooner a reflection of how disposable the character of Bella is in the Twilight series. They know all the tween girls will pick up the cover with the guys, they probably printed only a dozen copies of the Bella cover.

  4. Maybe there's a gay vibe. I mean, what's a gay vibe? Two attractive guys smiling and laughing together? I don't see this photo as more emblematic of a gay couple or gay friends than two friends, gay or straight. And maybe before we jump to the "everything's gay" conclusion, why don't we consider the more realistic reason: money. These are two of the biggest stars in the world right now. And EW is read primarily by women (and probably some gay men). It makes good marketing sense to ditch that drag Kristen Stewart in favor of the attractive male stars. I'd get a gay vibe if that image were paired with something like "The Twilight boys tell all!" It's not all gay, all the time (sadly).

  5. Any photograph containing two young, pretty, styled-to-the-nines guys in a gay (i.e. mirthful) moment will set off "gay vibe" bells for any homosexual with a pulse. Doesn't mean anything w/r/t the subjects themselves.

  6. Sweety, you need to take your gaydar in for a checkup, because something is seriously broken. It's kind of like using a metal detector looking for gold. After digging the backyard up, the best you find is a bottle cap.

    Sorry, I ain't feeling it.

  7. Entertainment Weekly's managing editor Jess Cagle is gayer than an Easter bonnet full of rainbow-colored unicorns. And he's a bigger Twilight fan than the crazy cat ladies who moist their panties over these covers.

So yeh, I'd say it's intentional.

  8. The 'gay vibe' is a result of the skin of the two actors overlapping due to the angle of the camera. Normally if you have two actors on the cover of a magazine, its facing front, not at a profile.

  9. Nope. Don't feel the gay vibe. Just two male actors promoting their movie.

  12. Sure it looks like an eHarmony ad, but I don't want to see that other somber bitch anyways, so this cover is win-win.

  13. So two pretty guys smiling on one cover is gay now? Come on, seeing gay in every little thing is not going to help us.

  14. Shocker! Taylor Lautner is gay and while filming in Vancouver, BC, he made the mistake of posting an ad on Craigs list... He likes little asian boys.

  15. Great to see them both smiling. Handsome young men.

  16. If a lack of stylists, editors or handlers making sure something about the picture *isn't* gay makes it feel gay, then I suppose, but honestly, when I read the "gay vibe" observation I thought ... mmmm... no, not really, bit of a stretch, that.

  17. no I just see too many sticky hair products

looks like if you touched their heads it would draw blood

  18. no, i dont get a gay vibe

  19. Admittedly, I've never seen any of the Twilight movies, nor do I plan to, but, beyond that, what is the appeal of either of these men? Neither of them are particularly attractive.

  20. TRoad, are you asking? Or are you wishing?

This is the sort of embarrassing, juvenile opinion that is so destructively prevalent in gay media.

  21. ever hear of "Starsky and Hutch" or "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid", how about "The Lone Ranger and Tonto" ....

You know two men can be together, even besties, with a romantic love (Victorian era meaning), and not be gay.

  22. Wishful thinking, I'd say. No gay no way.

    Posted by: jamal49 | Jun 24, 2010 2:49:56 PM

  23. I don't think it's about wishful thinking. I logged into EW today and that picture was the main story image. I immediately thought WOW, that looks like a picture advertising gay.com. I didn't need this headline to suggest it. The angle of the camera may be deceiving, but they appear to be an inch or two from touching cheekbones. Maybe they weren't, but it LOOKS like they are, so Towleroad and those of us who had the same reaction can be forgiven for seeing that. It's not like anyone is trying to say it's evidence that the actors are gay or something.

  24. The way they were photograph seems to imply a physical connection not necessarily gay but definetly bromantic.

  25. Gay vibe? Reading too much into it.
