British Foreign Secretary William Hague Denies Affair with Male Aide: I'm Not Gay

Hague

British Foreign Secretary William Hague issued a statement today after internet rumors suggested he was in a relationship with a 25-year-old male aide named Christopher Myers, who recently resigned:

"Mr Hague's office put out the statement in response to internet rumors that suggested that he had recently shared a room with Mr Myers, a long-time aide who was handed a government job over the summer."

William_hague Said Hague in the statement: "I feel it is necessary to issue this personal statement in response to press and internet speculation over the last ten days. Earlier this year a Sunday newspaper began questioning whether my marriage to Ffion was in trouble, and last week another media outlet asked whether there was a statement about our supposed separation. This seemed to be linked to equally untrue speculation surrounding the appointment of Christopher Myers as a special adviser. He is easily qualified for the job he holds. Any suggestion that his appointment was due to an improper relationship between us is utterly false, as is any suggestion that I have ever been involved in a relationship with any man. He has now told me that, as a result of the pressure on his family from the untrue and malicious allegations made about him, he does not wish to continue in his position. It is a pity that a talented individual should feel that he needs to leave his job in this way."

Hague also felt it necessary to clarify information about his marriage:

"However, we now feel it necessary to give some background to our marriage because we have had enough of this continued and hurtful speculation about us. I have made no secret of the fact that Ffion and I would love to start a family. For many years this has been our goal. Sadly this has proved more difficult for us than for most couples. We have encountered many difficulties and suffered multiple miscarriages, and indeed are still grieving for the loss of a pregnancy this summer."

  1. Yeah, Hague used to set off my gaydar bigtime during Prime Minister's Questions (he was the former head of the Tories when Betty B. was the House Of Commons Speaker...I used to love to see her keep the Commons in order).

Still, this IS the British press and the slightest suggestion of sexual impropriety and scandal gets them going...but over there, it's just tawdry.

  2. This seems to be treading the lines between politicised outing and a gay witch hunt -- more about mean personal attacks than actually changing policy. Anyways, it's not like he was having a male escort poop on him or anything like Mark Oaten, at least as far as we know.

  3. BBC News says they did indeed share hotel rooms. Hague's wife's miscarriages seem irrelevant to the question. Why mention them if not to muddy the waters?

  6. William Hague:

    - voted to keep Section 28 (which banned any 'promotion' ie discussion of homosexuality in schools
    - voted against allowing gay couples to adopt
    - voted against allowing lesbian couples access IVF treatment
    - didn't bother showing up on the vote for an equal age of consent or for the vote on Civil Partnerships.

He employed 3 different aides. The other 2 were housed in a different, cheaper hotel from the one Hague stayed in. It was only Myers who got to share a bedroom with him.

He's been rumoured to be a big fag for years.

Well now that the chickens are coming home to roost, I for one, couldn't be happier.

    He's homophobic scum!

  9. Cap? Check!

    Sunglasses? Check!

    Casual top and jeans? Check!

    Somewhat 'demonstrative' aide/young man? Check!

I thought that pic was taken at Pride London or casual weekend stroll around SoHo or something.

Anyway, clever disguise. I'm sure you got the paparazzi, the Russians, Chinese, Americans, Al Qaeda, the IRA, etc., fooled.

  11. Who gives a rats ass whether he's gay or not? I for one don't give a flying f**k about who he or anyone else is sleeping with personally. All of you bitter queens posting your witty and fact filled comments on here about him make me sick. Are your lives more enriched because you made a tasteless comment about his perceived sexuality? Pull your balls out of your ass, grow the f**k up and leave the man alone.
