Watch: Exposing the Lies in NOM's Ad Against Iowa Justices

Stop8
Last week, the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) released an ad in support of the right-wing campaign to replace three Iowa Supreme Court justices who helped approve the state's marriage equality law.

Stop8.org has now released a spot taking down the lies (it's filled with them) which form the basis of NOM's ad.

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

First, NOM's Iowa ad:

And now, Stop8.org's takedown:

  1. I get a kick out of the Stop8.org ads. Smart, funny and brilliant in taking down the lies, lies and more lies of the NOM ads. The Stop8.org ads are very effective.

  2. Unfortunately the 30-second NOM ad is airing on TV stations all over here in Iowa, and the rebuttal is only on YouTube.

  3. These ads are smart, intelligent, and factual. Can they be put on TV in an abbreviated form? The truth needs to be put on the airwaves along with the bull from NOM!

  4. Stop8's ad is terrific... but I agree w/ poster above... 30 secs vs. 3+ minutes; you can guess which will get viewed more.

The challenge will absolutely be, how will they get that to Iowa voters?

  5. Seriously? "Ignoring the will of the people is kinda their job." Who on earth thought that would resonate with undecided voters? And these three lines: "That wasn't a complete sentence," "consult Clippy," and "visit your local library" -- WTF? Condescension and sarcasm may be fun to engage in, but they are hardly persuasive. Morons. Well intentioned morons, to be sure, but morons nonetheless.

  6. I don't think anyone who could potentially be swayed by the Stop 8 ads would go to the trouble of looking them up on Youtube. As others have mentioned, Stop 8 needs to put its own ads on TV, preferably right after NOM airs its ads.

  7. This is really great. For someone like me.

However, this isn't enough for independents and people over 30.

  8. Thank God for Towleroad's team of crack armchair analysts, pissing on all joy in the universe. Yes, get television air time, what a simple idea, it can't be much more expensive than putting it on Youtube. And if it is too expensive, they can just stop making videos and put all of their efforts behind bitching in comment sections. Like you fine folks.

"Condescension and sarcasm may be fun to engage in, but they are hardly persuasive."

I think you proved your own point on that one.
