Watch: Houston Trans Woman Arrested for Using Ladies Restroom

Moore

A transgender woman says she was "humiliated" and arrested after using a public restroom in Houston, MyFOX reports:

"[Tyjanae] Moore was arrested Nov. 17 at the Houston Public Library in downtown.... 'When I came out, the female told me I wasn't supposed to be and I asked if there was any particular reason why not. She said I'm a transgendered female and I was really shocked that they even stopped me for this,' says Moore. Even though she is seen as a protected class by the City of Houston, Moore entered a guilty plea. Earlier in 2010, Mayor Annise Parker, who is openly gay, issued an executive order that allows transgendered persons to use the city restroom of their choice. Moore tells FOX 26 News she tried to use the men's restroom in the past. 'I went to the males' restroom and the man followed me into the restroom, so I figured that was not good. It wasn't safe and I started going to female restrooms and that's where I'm comfortable with,' says Moore.

  5. I live in the heart of the bible belt here in Eastern TN and even I know that this is ridiculous. You can't expect that a transgendered person is going to walk into a bathroom based on their genital makeup and not have a HUGE problem with others inside. Regardless of the intent, there will be a disturbance. On the other hand, this is ONE case that I have heard of and I'm sure it happens far more often than we think. It's really not a big deal and I think it shameful that we have some religious figure sitting between these two intelligent people talking about 2/10ths of one percent when it doesn't matter if it's 2/10ths of a percent or just ONE person. Matthew Shepard was just ONE person and yet his death brought about a great deal of change for many people. That is why they call transgendered people a MINORITY. It is because they don't make up the majority, just as African Americans are a minority, yet we changed laws for them and protected them from heinous crimes based on the facts that it's just WRONG.

Gay people are just as much people as the next and pay the same taxes that feed and clothe your children and elderly and fund this country's weapons programs to help protect your freedoms, as well as serving in our military. They should ALL have the same rights and protections afforded to every other American in this country and to offer anything less goes against everything our constitution represents and is founded on. HATRED is NOT an American value and it's high time we stopped spreading it around under the "christian umbrella" as if it's anything less than what it really is and that's hate. Our forefathers risked their lives to come to this land and settle it in hopes of having a life free from religious persecution and yet look at America today and where it stands. If you aren't a part of the christian faith and follow it according to the church's way of thinking, you are damned. WHAT EVER! I say PROVE IT!
