Watch: NOM's Maggie Gallagher Brings Her Bigot Stump Speech to New Hampshire's Marriage Equality Hearings

Maggie

As you can see she's vastly outnumbered in a sea of red-wearing marriage equality supporters.

Check out a clip of the huge turnout, AFTER THE JUMP...

The New Hampshire House Judiciary Committee yesterday held hearings on two bills that would repeal the state's marriage equality law. The lawmakers made it clear that the bills would not be addressed until next year (and would be revisited at that time as well) so the legislature could address fiscal issues.

The AP:

"Neither Rep. Leo Pepino, R-Manchester, nor David Bates, R-Windham, spoke in detail in support of their bills, though Bates argued briefly that the gay marriage law was passed without the consent of the people.

"I also want to make it very clear that next year, this legislation will be a priority," he said.

Nearly 600 people signed up to testify at the hearing, the vast majority of them opposed to repealing the law. Many urged lawmakers to put the issue to rest this session.

Watch Maggie (and her best friend) rail against same-sex marriage, AFTER THE JUMP...

Oh yeah, here's Maggie's best friend:

And here are all the marriage equality supporters, waiting for the hearing:

  1. “Put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony.”

Proverbs 23:20-21 warns us, “Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.” Proverbs 28:7 declares, “He who keeps the law is a discerning son, but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.” Proverbs 23:2 proclaims, “Put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony.”

  2. Is Slaggie a resident of New Hampshire? No? Then why is she allowed to speak?

  4. It is amazing that Maggie has time to speak given all of the calories she must consume to keep up that not svelte figure! She looks like she just ate a small gay family for breakfast.

  5. What disgusts me most about all of this is people like Ms. Gallagher who fight so hard to "save" the family, yet travel around constantly, which means she stays away from her home and her own family. Doesn't she see that she is actually ruining her family and the relationship to her child?

Same with the pro-life supporters who stand outside of clinics every day. How about you go home and spend time with your family instead of tearing others and yourselves apart.

  6. When you wrote there was a huge turnout I didn't realize you were talking about Maggie, man she is bigger than a house. Think of how many families could be fed on her daily intake.

  7. Guess we should have "consented with the people" before desegregating schools too, huh? haters.

  8. I can't believe New Hampshire GOP is even wasting time and money on this.

  9. I don't understand. Where are all the straight-acting gym-hitting resort-trotting hot marriage equality supporters? All I see here are senior citizens, geeks, fatties, and real people.

  10. Can you imagine having absolutely nothing to do with your life other than troll around the country spewing hatred against a population of people who do nothing wrong other than live their lives.

  11. I wish just ONE legislator would have the cajones to ask Mrs. Srivastav why it is that a person whose only job and only obsession in life is to "define and defend traditional marriage" refuses to use her husband's last name, which is VERY TRADITIONAL to marriage, and NEVER speaks of her own marriage, her own husband (a Hindu Indian man) or her own family (including her two daughters, both born out-of-wedlock)!

And why do so many defenders of traditional marriage have so little issue with such a person being their leader?

It just proves that the real issue isn't traditional marriage or its so-called "defense"; it's pure and simple animosity toward gay people, their relationships and their families disguised as "religious belief" and "concern for marriage, the family and chuldrin". It most often seems to be a scape-goat issue to distract people from their own failures in relationships. That's why so many closet cases, adulterers and people who are absolutely miserable in their relationships/marriages are always front and center with their torches and pitch forks in the attack on gay people and our families.

  12. Wow. I thought she looked big from the front.

From the back and side she bears a striking resemblance to Jabba the Hut.

Yeah I know.. petty, blah blah.

  13. I wonder when one of Maggie's daughters will come out. And we KNOW that one eventually will. It never fails with these very public anti-gay crusaders. In fact, it seems the more anti-gay a person is the more likely they are to have a gay child. Look at Tim and Beverly LaHaye, Phyllis Schaffley, Charles Socarides, Alan Keyes, Randall Terry, MY MOTHER, etc, etc etc...

There should be odds making in Vegas on which daughter will come out and when.

  14. She's wasting her time. The people of NH don't like out-of-staters telling them what to think and do. If anything, her huge presence and small words helps our side. But Maggie doesn't really care about marriage. She's a professional hater, in it for the $ and free meals. And she's getting plenty of both.

  15. But I do picture Maggie the Hutt at home, with her child chained to her neck, as she throws gay blonde twinks down to the Rancor pit. OH HO HO!

  16. Maggie's incremental weight gain over the last few years is getting creepy. Christianist scripture, Proverbs 23:20-21, tells Christianists to shun her. She's in the anti-gay business for the free gourmet meals.

  17. I absolutely LOVE the irony, and truth in the statement made off camera when Mag's podium time was almost reached. "your sands of time are running out". Yeah buddy, you said a mouth full. NOM's time is truly running out!!!

  18. I'm sure everyone in her vicinity probably wanted to get away from her.

Too bad they couldn't escape her gravitational pull.

Not to be too mean, but doesn't she look like a planet with a pageboy bob and a Wal-Mart Big Girls' blouse?!?

  19. I was present at the hearing yesterday, and I'm pretty sure the bigots are getting paranoid:

"Gay marriage will bring sharia law to the US"

"If gays marry, then fewer babies will be manufactured, and that will lead to the fall of the US"

    Seriously.

  20. "It is not discrimination to treat different things differently."

Actually, that is the definition of discrimination, according to Merriam-Webster:

"n. the process by which two stimuli differing in some aspect are responded to differently"

  21. Every time I see Maggie Gallagher, I feel sad. There is something about her, an aura, a demeanor, a presence, that is so gray and tragic. She heavy (and I don't mean that physically...but I often believe we manifest the psychological into the physical.

I admit to being a progressive. As soon as someone says "We need to return to a time..." or utters the word "traditional" I turn off. I believe life is an evolution and I believe understanding is evolutionary. That's why I'm perplexed at both Maggie, trying to cite American tradition and constitution, as if what was written over 200 years ago (and most obviously, nothing was written about same-sex marriage) can not be objectively reconstructed and utilized in a modern world. Or in the case of the Bible, over 2000 years ago, as the bases for every decision we face today. I always ask people that take the Bible literally (but never follow all of it literally) why they think nothing has been added to the book in over 2000 years. Has everything we needed to learn about the world, about life, about God, about man, been written at a time when people believed the sun went around the earth and the earth was flat?

Instead they spend all of their time screaming the world is ending and trying to mix-and-match life events to the Book of Revelations and rallying against things that have been misinterpreted from the Greek and Aramaic from the start.

People who desperately want to hang onto the past are those who are the most unhappy. Why? Because it's over for them. The past is memories. The future is matters...and that's where progression wins every time.

  22. Could we possibly hate Maggie Gallagher without spouting virulent misogyny and fat-shaming? That would be cool. Neither being a woman nor being fat is a moral failing (regardless of the biblical quotes above) and neither has anything to do with her terrible bigotry and inflammatory rhetoric.
