News: Grover Norquist, Lady Gaga, Frank Gehry, Oscar Promo

GaGaOnVogue 6a00d8341c730253ef0147e2753ae6970b-800wi-1 Grover Norquist, a CPAC organizer and GOProud board member, described protesters of the right wing gathering's gay inclusion as "loser people:" "Loser people and loser organizations that haven't done any work all year try to get headlines so they can whine about CPAC. They can get a little press. That happens all the time."

6a00d8341c730253ef0147e2753ae6970b-800wi-1 The American Family Association plays hide-and-seek with Bryan Fischer's comments claiming Native Americans aren't morally righteous enough to own land. Has the anti-gay activist finally alienated everyone, including his friends?

6a00d8341c730253ef0147e2753ae6970b-800wi-1 Two "gay" spider monkeys named Elton and David (cheeky) will get a special Valentine's Day treat: nuts and fruit. Sounds pretty good.

6a00d8341c730253ef0147e2753ae6970b-800wi-1 Lady Gaga has the "power" on the cover of Vogue.

6a00d8341c730253ef0147e2753ae6970b-800wi-1 Gay rights activists in Iowa delivered 3,248 signatures calling on House Speaker Kraig Paulsen to support state Supreme Court Justices targeted for their support of marriage equality.

6a00d8341c730253ef0147e2753ae6970b-800wi-1 Does the new Frank Gehry-designed skyscraper at New York City's 8 Spruce Street represent an architectural shift into the digital era, or just give us something pretty to admire?

6a00d8341c730253ef0147e2753ae6970b-800wi-1 Tim Pawlenty, the former Minnesota governor who's considering a presidential run, told CPAC attendees today that fighting gay marriage is based on "universal values," not some "mythical idea." This is based, of course, on his belief that all other religions other than his own are simple fantasy.

Spruce6a00d8341c730253ef0147e2753ae6970b-800wi-1 Following public protest, the Israeli government decided to hold off on deporting the German lover of an Israel citizen killed during an attack on a gay community center in Tel Aviv. This is not, mind you, a guarantee the German, Thomas Schmidt, will get to stay. Immigration officials are just investigating more.

6a00d8341c730253ef0147e2753ae6970b-800wi-1 Terry Jones, the pastor who tried to organize a Koran burning on 9/11, has announced a national tour to combat the greatest threats to the nation: abortion, gay rights and Islam. All three, he contends, lead to death, destruction and utter carnage. Why anyone would want to hear such a bummer of a speech is beyond me.

6a00d8341c730253ef0147e2753ae6970b-800wi-1 Scientology has a lot of friends in Washington.

6a00d8341c730253ef0147e2753ae6970b-800wi-1 Broadway will never be the same after Kathy Griffin performs Kathy Griffin Wants a Tony.

6a00d8341c730253ef0147e2753ae6970b-800wi-1 Go, Canada! House of Commons passes transgender rights bill.

6a00d8341c730253ef0147e2753ae6970b-800wi-1 Anne Hathaway and James Franco star in a new promo for the Academy Awards. I'm all pins and needles!

6a00d8341c730253ef0147e2753ae6970b-800wi-1 Republican Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona announced today that he will step down once he's finished his term in 2012. Kyl's departure, hot on the heels of Virginia Sen. Jim Webb, has GOP insiders in D.C. wondering who will fill their void.

  1. Lady GaGa is partnering with homophobic Target with an exclusive version of her album.

I am done with her now as much as I am done with Target.

  2. Spider monkeys called "Elton" and "David":
Does one have temper tantrums and throw poo at the other? Just asking.

  3. Just to clarify any confusion: the passing of the trans rights bill in the House of Commons is only one-half of a two-part process. Now it has to to go the conservative-controlled Senate where it will be voted on a second time -- that is, once we can get someone to sponsor it.

  4. Interesting to hear a pro gay comment from anti-gay fundraiser-extraordinaire GN (who does have gay rumors swirling about him from time-to-time). Maybe the fact he very narrowly escaped indictment during the JA scandal has made him more introspective. The four principals of the scandal: JA, GN, Tom deLay and Ralph Reed (yet more gay rumors). Two were tossed into jail. Reed made out like a bandit but has since disappeared from public life. Norquist is still doing the fundraising thing but has seeded a lot of his former power to the axis that never associated with JA in the first place.

  5. James Franco looks like he wants to be somewhere else; Anne Hathaway should be fantastic.

  6. The trans bill of rights is not law yet. It still has to pass the conservative controlled senate where it is expected not to pass.
