  1. ITs great to see someone who is genuinely supportive and also has power as a columnist to influence the world around him through his writing. Great to know. Sad that politics is a game of charades to win a sort of constituent cheese.

  2. What comes through most sttrongly in Rich's remarks is the overwhelming importance of being out. He knew many gay peopel in his youth, but none of them were out so he knew little of their lives. AIDS changed all that. That's the sole "upside' of this overwelming -- ongoing -- tragedy.
