Michelangelo's David Thrusts Anatomy in Neighborhood's Face

An Abilene, Texas neighborhood is very upset with a new neighbor who has chosen to place a replica of Michelangelo's David statue in the front yard.

Says one resident:

"What can you tell a child if you haven't talked to em about about sex yet?"

  2. it isn't a very good representation of the actual David

I personally wouldn't have one in my yard BUT if they are going to do it and now with the bruh ha ha over it they should get a replica of the Venus De milo and put out there as well

  3. "What can you tell a child if you haven't talked to em about about sex yet?"

Apparently you should tell them that their parents are too stupid to be raising children, that they lack the ability to even explain the physical differences between genders to their own children and are knuckle-dragging morons. Next question?

  4. "Says one resident: 'What can you tell a child if you haven't talked to em about about sex yet?'"

You tell the child, "this is what I hoped a grown man would look like naked...but all that changed when I married your daddy."

  5. Yes, because children don't grow genitalia until they undergo puberty.

Are these housewives also paralyzed with terror when their kid asks them what his own penis is for? Rather than tell him that it's for say, going to the bathroom, do they just say "I can't tell you because you don't know what sex is" and scurry away to watch Maury?

    Jesus Christ...

  6. What prudish people.

Next time I see someone with naked ladies tattooed down their arms, or the testicles on trailer hitches or a statue of a nude lady in a public place, I am going to ask them to cover it up, take it down or remove it.

And you don't have to talk to them about sex. Boys have different parts than girls and thats all little kids should know.

Well, somebody else needs to be in charge of the anatomy lessons, lady, 'cause if your kids look at you they're gonna think people naturally have their heads up their a**.

  8. Perhaps they should also tell the children that they should be prepared to learn about gender and sex in the schoolyard and they should probably be prepared to be bad parents at the age of 14 themselves.

  10. Michelangelo must be rolling over in his grave with all of the poor imitations of his classic sculpture.

Also, what is wrong with these people to immediately think of sex when they see a nude body? I think we all know who has the problem here.

  11. Statue of David's climbin' in your windows, he's snatchin' your people up, tryin' to rape 'em. So y'all need to hide your kids, hide your wife, and hide your husband ...

  12. Here in Los Angeles, in Hancock Park, there's a guy who put one David statue in his front yard and when his neighbors objected, he lined the yard with 'em as a big F-you. C'mon Texas, step up your game.

I'm tired of adults hiding behind children to express their anxieties.

  13. and that's all before you get into the specifics like foreskin vs circumscision

  14. I always thought David was sorta, um, lacking.

  15. These people are equating nudity with sex. Naked people, especially in art, are not necessarily sexual. Part of the issue is probably that it's David, a naked MAN. (If it was a naked woman, there'd probably be less outcry.)

I'd like to ask these "what about the children" folks: do you listen to explicit hip-hop at home with swear words or messages about killed, assault, etc? What do you watch on TV--have your kids seen people killed in movies or on TV shows? What about the video games they play? All of that violence is potentially more damaging than a naked statue--but our ass-backwards obscenity laws don't recognize obscene violence, only obscene language or sex.

Quoth Ann Jillian as Mae West: "You know what I think is obscene? War is obscene. Poverty is obscene."

  18. ..OK, Children...Lets go inside and watch people getting blown up and killed on the TV....Don't want you looking at a concrete penis..........

  20. The very parents complaining about "how do you explain it to a child who doesn't know about sex yet", are the very same people who never get around to explaining to their children what sex is. Grow up people. Your children are probably aready aware of the difference, and your hysteria over this is only succeeding to traumatize them, so when they grow up they can pass their fears on to their children. And the beat goes on. Parents projecting their ignorance and fears onto their children. Will it ever end.

  21. Reading from her pink smartphone at 1:02 -"Some art needs to be the dog-gone museum..." Lol! You can't write this stuff!!

No one has asked them (as of yet) to move the statue. "If the chance arises this weekend, yes, I will go over there and ring their doorbell." She had time to talk to the news crew but not to have a friendly chat with her neighbors about their art? Gimme a break!

  22. And this is what you get after thirty years of the Republican dumbing-down of American education combined with their empowerment of religious idiots.

First they came for the homosexuals... then they eventually found time to freak out over cheap reproductions of centuries-old art because their kids don't know what a penis is.

    Welcome to your future, USA!

"Simpsons did it" (which in itself is a reference to south park)

Anyway; I wonder how many of them wish they could see death pics of OBL with his brains hanging out and ok for their kids to see
