Miley Cyrus Condemns Rick Santorum's Anti-Gay Ways

Rick
Yes, that Miley Cyrus. She's also taken to criticising Urban Outfitters. According to Politico:

Cyrus isn't a fan of Urban Outfitters after stories emerged alleging that the store has copied jewelry designs, so she pointed out that the company's president had contributed to Santorum. “IF WE ALLOW GAY MARRIAGE NEXT THING U KNOW PEOPLE WILL BE MARRYING GOLD FISH’ – Rick Santorum UO contributed $13,000 to this mans campaign” tweeted Cyrus, mocking Santorum for some earlier remarks regarding gay marriage.

She also wrote about Urban Outfitters and Santorum: “Not only do they steal from artists but every time you give them money you help finance a campaign against gay equality.” It may not be the best news for Santorum, who is expected to launch his campaign next week since Cyrus has over a million Twitter followers. Fortunately for him, however, most are probably too young to vote. This particular remark was re-tweeted by hundreds if not thousands of people.

The last time we heard from "frothy mix" himself, he was failing to convince us that he's not a big homophobe.

  1. Good for her! It is comforting to know that with each generation seems to come more compassion for the LGBTQ community.

  3. 10 years from now people like Rick Santorum will be considered by the grand majority the same way white supremacists are considered now - insane, laughable, despicable.
Will they still exist? Yes, but they will have very little authority outside their own small community.

  4. Another example of how being out helps people --- I happen to know the very nice young man who grew up next door to Miley and is her brother's best friend. Out gay and proud. And they are like family.

  6. I love Miley! She's a great friend to GLBT kids and teens.

also: Could this man be any more offensive to so many Americans? His views are so out of touch, so bigoted, so irrational. He's made being a homophobe a career. and now he wants to be President of the United States?

  10. Urban outfitters deserves the rebuke.
Rick Santorum is a pathetic hopeless never-ran. He couldn't even keep his Senate seat.

Hate doesn't sell as well as it used to.

  11. The best part of this is her telling her fans about Urban Outfitters. You'd have to live under a rock not to know that Rick Santorum is a giant homophobe since he's proud of it and wears it on his sleeve. But UA markets itself as trendy and cool but has ALWAYS been a supporter of right-wing Republican candidates. Some of us have known that for a long time but not everyone does and anything that informs a new generation of UA's potential customers is a good thing.

So go Miley! If she uses her fame wisely and avoids the pitfall of falling for the vast marketing machine that surrounds these child "stars," she may be able to have a meaningful future instead of becoming just another teenybopper has-been.

  12. Good for her! Miley Cyrus has a lot more name recognition and influence than Rick Santorum, particularly among her age cohort, which is rejecting the right-wing hate-mongering. While on the surface this may seem like a pop princess criticizing a former senator, it represents something much more significant that that. What would be a huge help would be for Miley to encourage her generation to get out and vote when the time comes.

  15. I worry for Santorum's children. At least two of them are more than obviously "family"

  16. too young to vote, but right in the sweet spot for a retailer like Urban Outfitters. My girls loved Miley when they were younger and I've never really liked - but this makes her way more tolerable! LOL

  17. It turns out the lady on Etsy.com is copying 3-4 other folks making the SAME necklaces months or years before she sold her own, so that case is closed. And Santorum can take a walk off a short pier.

  18. Good for Miley. Never been a fan before - and Honestly still not a fan of her music - but I am now a fan of the girl herself.

And let's all take in the most important information here: Urban Outfitters apparently likes to donate to and support extreme conservative Republican politicians while marketing themselves to the youth of this country and a culture who by and large represent the polar opposite political/social ideal. Anyone who respects themselves and doesn't subscribe to such a hateful man and his bile rhetoric should take this knowledge to heart and speak with your wallet.

And to the poster above me: UO responded to the tweet pointing out the concept is not original to the artist. However- the fact that there are more than one artist on Etsy already selling these States-With-Hearts Pendants they fail to explain how it wasn't just the concept that has supposedly been ripped from this artist's Etsy account- they also apparently ripped off copy directly from her page as well.

  19. When they were debating the infamous federal constitutional ban on gay marriage in Washington back in the summer of 2004, Rick Santorum got on the floor of the United States Senate and without an iota of shame compared consensual homosexual acts to bestiality. How on earth this man ever got elected US Senator is beyond my powers of comprehension. I don't care highly people might revere Pennsylvania. Any state that elects this man Senator for two terms in a row is worse than the sh*thole of Mississippi in my books. I would hate to imagine the implications for this country's electorate if this man were to get elected President IN 2012.

  20. Rick Santorum is a joke! He will never reach the White House; not by a long shot! Google Santorum; it is really quite funny!

  25. I've heard for years that Urban Outfitters was a huge contributor to far-right radical conservatives. It's kinda ironic, given their demographics of their customer base. Spread the word about Urban Outfitters...we really need a full-blown boycott against them. They make Target and Walmart look liberal.
