Ricky Martin: It Was Hard being a Closeted Sex Symbol
Ricky Martin tells Jay Leno about the struggles he had being closeted earlier in his career:
"I was the sex symbol and I needed to dance and I needed to make girls crazy and I couldn't say that I was ga It was a lot of struggle, and if you add to that culture, religion, society, what people say, you know, what I was feeling according to what I had in my mind, was evil."
Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

Going to see him tonight - hope he's cute!

I saw this clown two weeks ago in Dallas. He's misogynistic. He claims to be gay yet all the women are scantily clad and all the men are fully dressed. He dry humped all the women as well.
I respect women and perhaps that is why this fag did not care for that "so called fag" concert.

i might listen to his whining once he announces he's ended his exclusive contract with Target. he's cute and talented but certainly not GLADD awarad worthy.

Ricky seems like a nice guy and I wish him all the best, but how in the world was he "closeted" when the entire world not only knew but took for granted that he was gay? If "closeted" has any meaning at all, surely it means that you have a secret, yes? Ricky Martin's sexual orientation was never a secret from anybody.

It's hard to be sympathetic, really....

Try reading Ricky's book - he gives hardly anything away, glosses over so many details and comes across as superior and aloof...

Ricky is a product of the environment and culture he was raised in. Being two faced about things like sexuality is taken for granted and expected. You can be gay [errr...bisexual] as long as you publicly do the right thing, marry, have children, etc., Be gay [sorry, bisexual] if you must, just be on the DL.

He's out and he's talking about loving being gay on Jay freaking Leno. He's talking about the process of being closeted and yes, unless you're live in a gay ghetto, people still believe you're straight. I can't tell you how many straights I meet who don't know AC is gay. Bravo, Ricky. He's helping others who are in the Entertainment business to see the difference in him since he's publicly come out. He didn't wait until he was old and irrelevant to come out. He's vibrant and sexy and good for him. I wish him all the best.

"....but the money was too good and I just played along because I wanted the millions of dollars they were offering me. I have no shame, Jay. I'm just a whore for the money....oh, and I'm gay too and was born without a backbone - just a bone up my back."

he is out and proud and happy.

B-Rod says the truth and I want to say the ultimate curse that will put this particular profiteering phony and all of his way affluent co-conspirators to sleep for two or three decades so that their awakening receives massive yawns and zero dollars in their sorry ass bank accounts, the only things they revere and the only instance for which they demand a truthful accounting of themselves. Please, please, please all of you phony phucks, go retire to the South of France where has-been cowards like Edward VIII, the Nazi sympathizer retired with his American slice of left-over cake, Wallis Simpson. Enjoy your ill-gotten gains, but please just shut up your ignorantly selfish pie-holes trying to justify why you've all been living lies while other gay folks suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous persuasion. You are lower than the Vichy police who sold off their country's last shred of integrity. Shut up, already!

You guys are all heart! What a gay......community!

I love this guy and have supported him for a long time. I've known he was gay since his days when lived here in LA during his All My Children stint.
I for the life of me can't understand why he is STILL has an exclusive with Target. Does he not get it? As a new gay activist, he needs to get with the program and get out of that contract, it sure will get him to lose gay fans like myself.
I did read his book, too. I was disappointed how he kept writing about how he loves both girls and guys, but with guy it was more passionate. So, is he bi?
He truly is losing me a bit. I hope in the next year he gets the fact that if he truly is gay, then stop with the I was bi bs. And come on Ricky, END THE TARGET contract!

...but not too hard that I would take a chance on coming out and not being able to buy my own private island...
remember, this is the same guy who performed at bush the second's inaugural (the president who called for a constitutional amendment against marriage equality)

Boring. He's a has-been who is trying to make a career out of talking about being gay.
Posted by: atheist | May 5, 2011 4:05:43 PM
Cardellino what ARE you going on about?
PS cursing someone to live in the south of France is a tad oxymoronic
Posted by: Christopher | May 5, 2011 5:14:45 PM
@Rowan...This is NOT a gay community. You need to learn that the internet is full of trolls. I try not to read the comments anymore.
