Jake Gyllenhaal and Bear Grylls Will Be Men vs. Wild

Jake Gyllenhaal will share an Icelandic snow cave with Bear Grylls on the premiere episode of this season's Man vs. Wild:

Grylls_gyllenhaal For two days, Bear and Jake embark on a survival experience neither will forget, to an Icelandic landscape dominated by mountains, huge glaciers and some of Europe's most active volcanoes. Jake will have to go where Bear goes, eat whatever Bear eats, and on occasion even take the lead, if he's going to cope with some of the worst conditions known to man. "For me, it's all about discovery," said Gyllenhaal.

Said Bear about the experience, "The wild is always very revealing - not only physically but mentally. You've got to smile when it's driving horizontal hail and be able to face your fears and just get on and do it -- and on both of those accounts, Jake came up strong."

The Belfast Telegraph adds:

Bear revealed: "A couple of weeks ago I took Jake Gyllenhaal, reportedly the fittest man in Hollywood, on a Born Survivor to Iceland. He said he wanted to to be pushed and afterwards said he'd never been pushed so hard.

He went on: "We had crazy conditions - sleeping in snow caves, huge river crossings and these torrential storms. I was a little bit nervous as I promised Jake's management team I would keep him alive, but he was brilliant.

"There's something magical about the raw emotion of fear and nerves. I think that's what people like about the show."

Given the methods available to stay warm in such situations, it should be a glorious episode.

The show premieres on July 11.

  10. So so disapointed to come across this.
BG ticks me off.Firstly it's that ridiculous voice he puts on.Secondly it's the fact he kills animals for the sake of television.Thirdly the show is really a fake in that he is not a superman. And lastly & most disturbingly he is part of the Hillsong religious brigade that brainwash vunerable youth & steal their money.Jake what are you doing with this??

  11. How enterprising. Torrents of testosterone on a mountain of Cute, with massifs of muscle and ice caves of cuddle. Iceland is about to experience global warming like never before.

  12. It's all good and interesting, but I always have to wonder about these ultra-manly survival guys. I'd like to see the camera men who have to follow wherever these guys go lugging all that recording equipment.

  13. Most people think Bear is a hunk, but put him next to Jake and he suddenly seems very normal. So perhaps looks are relative after all.

Also, Bear lost a lot of credibility when it turned out they would "camp" at the nearest motel when convenient -- though he promised to reform himself and never do it again (he swears!).

  14. these shows are for the most part phoney. if someone is there taping it - it's definitely not very survivalist.

  15. YES YES YES -if ONLY they would just have brackish water and have to take a "raft enema " ...together :

  16. For all you critics, the show is not "phoney". Go read Bear's bio--he climbed Everest at age 23, as well as another Himalayan peak that was once thought unclimbable. He has a black belt in karate. He once broke his back parachuting out of a plane in Africa. He was a member of the British military's Special Services unit (the equivalent of the US unit that killed bin Laden) and holds a black belt in karate.

Of course, in order to make a TV show, you have to have a camera crew. But that does not mean there is not real danger in the situations he puts himself in, even though it is being filmed. No, he is not going to die of thirst in the desert or freeze to death in the Arctic, but that is not the point of the show, really. The point is to teach people survivalist skills and Bear has exercised those in real life, even if some compromises have to be made to make a TV program.

Bear is a stud and pairing him with kind of re-defines hotness, so relax, get off on it, and stop being so critical......

  24. There is not a single quote that doesn't sound sexual:

"He said he wanted to to be pushed and afterwards said he'd never been pushed so hard."

"'For me, it's all about discovery,' said Gyllenhaal."

  25. This 2-day adventure will be training wheels for Jake and Bear spending 6 months of winter in Wisconsin. Now that would be manly.
