Anti-Gay Orthodox Jews Muscle Openly Lesbian Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum Out of Albany Photo Op: VIDEO
A group of anti-gay Orthodox hasidim shoved openly lesbian rabbi Sharon Kleinbam out of a photo op with Senator Ruben Diaz in front of reporters in Albany yesterday.
Yells one of the Hasidim at Kleinbaum: "You're not a Jew! You're not a Jew!"
Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

*sigh The hate is always so palpable...

STOP JEW ON JEW VIOLENCE!

I live in Brooklyn. Ultra-Orthodox Jews are worse in their self-entitled bigotry than Southern Evangelicals. And, if they are the only Jews, then there are very few Jews in the world, indeed.

Disgusting, but not unexpected. Just sent her an email.

I absolutely cannot stand seeing oppressed groups of people, like blacks and jews, promoting hatred, discrimination, and intolerance towards others. We need to start speaking up about this. Isn't this the kind of behavior and hatred that led to slavery, extermination, and discrimination? This must stop. We always use the motto "we must never forget" but it is sad to see how these people have forgotten! Open up a history book!

Ah, the sweet smell of religious bigotry. Those guys would hang 'em high just like themuslims if only they had the chance.
Good example of the value of a secular state.

this jew has generally had a problem with the hasidim as they tend to be our version of the evangelical right.

Milkman - correction: those guys would hang US high if only they had a chance.
It's our job to see that they never do.

Did anyone else notice them shouting, "Help us with LGBT conversion"? Gross.
However, she should not have put her arm around that man. As a Jew she knows that the hasidic community (and he takes it a step beyond) think it is sinful for man and woman to show any affection in public if they are not married. Of course, he also thinks it's a sin for her to study Torah... so whatever. Anyway, just being fair.

The various super Orthodox/Hasidics live in their own world of behaviors, costumes, haircuts, and beards, reading only the Torah in Hebrew. The men study and pray and the women wear wigs and their own costumes and work or get on welfare and crank out as many kids as possible. Their culture is a bizarre, modernly manufactured pseudo remnant of Middle Eastern culture of two thousand years ago. For readers that do not live in the nyc area, you just have to see it to believe it and unfortunately it's all over the place here.
That woman rabbi touching him was the worst thing that ever happened to that guy.

That behavior is shocking and shameful. However, Rabbi Kleinbaum should NOT have put her arm around the Hasidic man. It was highly inappropriate and she knew it. If she is going to identify with a religion and expects her religious views and behaviors to be respected then she should be more sensitive to the rules and prohibitions of others religious views; particularly when it's a sect of her own religion and especially when she knew that such a gesture would be highly offensive.
I find all of them to be different only in degree of insanity but if you're going to buy into the insanity of a sky god and expect to be respected then you should at least be respectful of others views of their sky god.

Wow. There will be riots in New York.
Hope this wakes up the LGBT community to how HATED they are and that turning on Barack Obama and the Democrats will cost you all your freedom.
These guys either want you dead or with no rights, at all.
England as major issues but by god am I happy it's not as depressing or as bad as you guys with the gay hate.
Even though we're all about capitalism, there is still this obsessed notion of community, so people genuinely try to do what is right but I guess because you all have a history of only caring for yourself, why should Maggie G and her ilk care if you shot yourself in the face tomorrow?

Do you have to be ugly with glasses in order to be an Orthodox Jew? It seems that way doesn't it? This video would almost be funny if it weren't so scary.

Saw a young Hasid dude the other day, beard, locks, whole nine yards. He was kinda cute actually.
Hasidics are very insular, and look down on especially non-Jews [goyim].

Every time I see one of those unbathed unkempt pigs I want to put my foreskin back. Orthodox Jews are worse than Islamo-fascists. Let's face it: Religion sucks.

Kevin: Yes, you have to spend all your time reading the Torah and not exercising ever and eating certain foods prepared in certain pots and pans by your wife/baby factory/slave and growing a straggly beard and the worst haircut ever invented.
But these aren't "Orthodox Jews," which in general just means the stricter rule following normal people. These are Hasidic or sometimes called Super-Orthodox or similar names. They come in a number of sects who wear different hats with their suits which they wear 24/7 all year round

@TAMPAZEKE,
True, she knew she shouldn't have touched the dude and knew what the reaction would be.
@Rowan,
Your understanding and interpretation of the U.S. is flawed. Example: Massachusetts [where I live, i.e. New England] is a 'Commonwealth' , i.e. for the 'common' good. There is old tradition of strong 'communities' here and elsewhere in the U.S. Over the top multiculturalism however has diluted sense of 'community' in many communities.
What you're seeing in this vid is called democracy. All people have a right to petition, demonstrate, express their views [even if the majority don't agree, or the government] protest. In England [where you guys have an OFFICIAL state religion [Church of England] sponsored by the state, subsidized by the taxpayers, headed by your head of state Queen Elizabeth [the U.S. has never had an official state sponsored religion; it's against the law], you also have laws that restrict speech that don't exist in the U.S. If I just said something 'mean' about a legally protected group of people in England, I could be criminally charged, even arrested. This means folks in England learn to be careful what they say and express, also means they haven't stopped holding their un-PC views, they just publicly suppress them.

The extreme vanity of the "chosen." It is laugh out loud funny that they don't recognize themselves as the ugly cousins to the Southern evangelical chosen ones. God protect us from the "saved" people of this world!

I think it's funny, I see Hasidic men, in full dress skulking out of gay bars late late at night in NYC all the time... The old Hole and Cock, especially...
Posted by: Martin | Jun 21, 2011 1:17:49 PM
The Hasidim seemed to be spitting on the lady rabbi at one point, perhaps ritual spitting, but nevertheless offensive. Stupid, ignorant bigots. All types of ultra-conservative religious freaks are idiots. They believe their sky god entitles them to trample on other's rights or beliefs. I wish 'em all in their hell.
Posted by: Abel | Jun 21, 2011 1:19:53 PM
The Hasidim are by definition, Orthodox. However, most forms of Orthodox Judaism (even the ones whose members don't smell like B.O. and look like Ted Kaczinski) are opposed to anything progressive, including gay rights. My grandfather was Orthodox, not Hasidic. It's 6 of one, half dozen of another.
