Pat Robertson Says God Will Destroy America Over Same-Sex Marriage

    Promises promises.

  2. candideinnccc says

ALL civilizations come to an end eventually. Blaming the fall of a civilization on acceptance of gays is like blaming the end of a civilization on the acceptance of Christianity. What does he think? America will go on forever as long as we are superstitious bigots?

  3. Hollywood, CA says

Not Slavery, Hiroshima, or Donna Trump’s RIDICULOUS wig… but Gay Marriage, that’s the one. WTFEB!

  4. alex Parrish says

Why is anything that this senile hate-monger even reported? It isn’t news that he hates diversity of any kind and that he has neo-facists beliefs. We shouldn’t even have to read this kind of crap — he is a non-important person with unimportant ideas and should be simply ignored by the media — ESPECIALLY the LGBT media!

  5. says

of COURSE he says that. He’s *always* saying that.

And Mr. Robertson is no anthropologist. There are societies in the world that have been stable for hundreds of years that practice all sorts of things and Jebus hasn’t used the “smite” key *once* on them.

  6. Elsewhere says

    Well, to amend that slightly…

“In history, there has never been a civilization that has… survived.”

All civilizations fall. All of ’em. Always. Then, sooner or later, they might rise again.

Roman Empire? Fall. Byzantine? Fall. Ottoman? Fall. British, French, Russian, Austro-Hungarian? Fall, fall, fall, fall. U.S.? Yep, at some point it will fall.

But not because of Marriage Equality.

  7. MDK says

If this means that “God” is gonna tell all of his wingnuts to flee America now then I’m all for it.

  8. Fenrox says

Uhhh, Pat, the ones you know of didn’t survive because people like you destroyed them, so is this a threat?

  9. StillMarriedinCA says

How long does Gawd wait before he smites a country? Spain is still there. The Netherlands has had marriage equality for over 10 years now….still standing. Norway, Sweden… doing great. What is the big DESTRUCTOR waiting for?
Pat, you hateful unchristian thieving idiot. STFU.

  10. Paul R says

I agree with previous comments. I’ve always stood in resolute defense of Andy posting whatever he likes, but I would rather read about a dog learning to bark than I would about any religious nutjob’s rants about what abominations we are. It isn’t news. It isn’t interesting. And it’s mildly depressing for those raised in religious backgrounds (not me) or who have born again parents (me).

Yes we can skip over it, but why bother posting it in the first place? Hate-mongers are the most predictable, uninteresting topic I can imagine. Religion is a poison, and while I understand that some people have been immersed in it since birth and others feel a need to know the enemy, this stuff writes itself. How many stories and comments do we need to see saying STFU to the pope, the christians, the pat robertsons, etc.? They don’t care about me; I don’t care about them. If there’s a hell (HA!), they’ll be the ones there, not me. I wish they’d start booking tickets now.

In 20-30 years few people will understand why anyone cared about these abominations, much less gave them money. They are evil, greedy frauds. Andy, do you post this kind of stuff simply to get a rise out of people?

  11. JimmyD says

Yes, yes Pat. Your pal Harold Camping has already told us the date(s) the world will end.
    God’s rathe. Blah blah blah.

  12. MikeInSanJose says

Yup, all civilizations do fall… Usually when religion gets involved in politics.

They are their own self-fulfilling prophecy!!

I wish Pat Robertson and his child-slavery/diamond mining operations in Liberia would fall – #$%&@#*! Pedophile!

  13. Jerry says

Remember though, that he is talking to people who do not comprehend that there is marriage equality in lots of places around the world that are doing just fine with it. He is appealing to people so ignorant and shortsighted that we would never be able to stoop to argue with. He himself is not stupid, however. He has made a massive tax free fortune off of people with barely sense enough to call in and give their credit card numbers to him, so obviously hes a fu&*ing genius.

  14. Neal Blevins says

His paramount bigotry aside, my question is where does Pat get his suits? He’s like a 40 Short swimming in a 48 Long jacket! Honestly, it’s like watching him shrink in relevance and size right before our very eyes.

  15. says

What galls me is this, from a “biblical” perspective he’s still utterly wrong. The story of Sodom contains not ONE mention of homosexuality. NOT ONE. The only way one could interpret it as that would be if one therefore believes that had the (genderless) “Angels” that appeared at Lot’s door looked like women, God would have been fine with them being gang-raped by an “angry mob of perverts”. “the crowd wanted to have sex with the angels that looked like men!”
….meaning if they looked like women it would have been just fine? God hates gang-rape unless it’s performed on a woman?

    uh…right.

Interestingly, Ezekiel 16 makes it explicitly clear that the “sin of Sodom” was greed and selfishness. The people had money and food and supplies and yet did not shared with those who had little or nothing.

So, what does that mean? It means the real “Sodomites” of America are indeed the rich and greedy who don’t want to pay higher taxes, who don’t believe in Universal Healthcare – those that have it all and do not give most of it away to those who have nothing.

    Basically, the GOP.

  16. Justin says

it’s amazing to me that we have evolved this far and dumb asses like Robertson still exist. I mean seriously.

  17. says

To quote Bill Maher who was quoting someone else, I’m sure someone here knows who it was, Pat, God always answers prayer and sometimes the answer is no. The vote has been cast, the decision made, the issue settled. Now, get the to a closet and take it up with me in private.

  18. Ronny says

I would very much love to read the headline: Pat Robertson Crushed in Collapse of Bible Warehouse.

  19. NaughtyLola says

Why is it that god keeps smiting the Bible Belt then, and not Sodom & Gomorrah (by which I mean NY and CA, of course)?

  20. Sane Soul says

Anyone willing to wager? I bet that very soon Pat will reveal that God has spoken to him and in exchange for money, he will spare America.

  21. Lonewillow says

Pat Robertson-Senile-Republican-Baptist-Hater-Hypocrite and Money Grabber….Didn’t Jesus chase the money changers out of the temple….but I don’t recall a word in the new Testament about Homosexuals, does anyone else?

  22. says

Amazingly, Pat’s comment is actually a MASSIVE insult to the African American community.

Pat is saying this: “God will destroy America because America is accepting gays, but God was totally fine with you people being abused, raped, murdered, kept as slaves and then forced to live in Segregation”

  23. wap8207 says

Elsewhere: yes, the empires may have fallen, but the countries associated with the empires were not destoryed.

  24. Danny says

We don’t need Pat’s spooky deity to destroy America: the GOP’s already got the corner on it.

  25. Emdub says

Canada believes in equality and is doing just fine thank you..the Canadian courts routinely tell the church to keep its gold plated nose out of law making.

  26. Matt26 says

    @Little Kiwi, that’s right.
One was enough to save the place. Could this one mean Jesus? What if it is symbolic?
PR should study a real history and the Bible studies.

  27. Dave in Chicago says

Funny, God told me he would destroy Pat Robertson for his idiocy. And I bet Pat goes before the USA does!

  28. JoeinFL says

    What is Traditional Marriage?

Marriage where women are considered property?
Marriage with multiple wives and concubines?
    Marriage to avoid fortification?
    Marriage for procreation only?
Marriage where the only reason for divorce is adultery?
    Marriage outside the same faith?
    Marriage outside the same race?

All these were deeply held biases within the church. The Church changed its definition of marriage for all these situations. We have changed our minds, and our laws, for the better.

The acceptance of gay marriage is not the end of “traditional” marriage.
It is the recognition of what God has wanted from the beginning, Genesis 2:18 “It is not good for man to be alone.”

It must and will change again, because we are moving toward God’s vision for us, not against it. Translations and misintreptations conceal the original meaning of the Bible, but God’s law will prevail over time, because it is His will.

Just as the New Testament does not specifically condemn the institution of slavery, it clearly teaches that violence and oppression are wrong. Abusive masters are held accountable to God. In a similar manner, Jesus does not specifically condemn homosexuals or gay marriage. He clearly gives the commandment to love one another and leaves those who judge to be judged. The Bible must be taken as a whole, and not an isolated verse or two.

  29. walter says

quick the gays are winning send me all your money. has any one noticed all these right nut jobs just keep grabbing money from their followers baker fallwell robertson camping. they just worry about lining their pockets and not teaching christian values. time to tax these bigots out of existence. may pat go to the big chautauqua tent in the sky and the sooner the better.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw this, is the recent news that the minister who claimed the rapture was going to happen in May, just had a stroke.

  32. Phil Tevlin says

The collapse of the Roman Empire coincided with the Empires’ adoption of Christianity as its state religion. There is also a 100% correlation between where it rains and where the sun shines; I therefore conclude that rain causes the sun to shine.

  33. says

I’m not worried about the decision in New York because I believe our battle, as Christians, is not in the courtroom – and it never was. I believe same sex marriage should be legal with as much conviction as I believe homosexuality is a sinful disobedience of God’s order for our lives. The fact that another same sex marriage bill was passed is only a symptom of a greater failure by the church to inspire a nation to trust, follow, and obey God. We should be fighting, with love, for the hearts of sinners – not for courtroom trump cards. Forcing agendas through legal action was never Christ’s method of winning souls and it shouldn’t be ours either.

  34. cbhermey says

I’m eagerly awaiting the Rapture myself. Then we’ll finally be rid of these clowns.

  35. Marcus says

I disagree with those of you who don’t want this stuff repeated or shared. It’s not saying that it’s the only view out there, but you have to know what those who wish to oppress you and the generations to come are saying. I too am bored of the same old twisted arguments that have no foundation in truth, but sadly there are huge amounts of people out there, some with power, who still listen and believe them. And if we stop listening, how can we ever defend ourselves if need be?

  36. stephen says

Canadian gay marriage – goin strong since 2003, no flames of destruction in the forecast…

  37. Judy Was A Punk says

Ohh my bad. I thought Pat Robertson died years ago. Based on the video he certatinly looks dead.

  38. Matt says

“In history, there has never been a civilization that has embraced homosexuality and turned away from traditional fidelity, traditional marriage, traditional child-rearing and has survived.”

I agree. Fortunately, our civilization is embracing homosexuality…as well as traditional fidelity, traditional marriages and traditional child-rearing.

  39. MichaelD1026 says

Just America, Pat? The other countries that have Marriage Equality won’t be destroyed? So, are you just trying to get all us gays and lesbians to move to another country, so you can set up your theocracy in the United States of America? No thanks, I’ll stay here; YOU MOVE!

  40. anon says

I’m sure the best way to prevent this is to send Pat more money.

It’s not clear whether he thinks a society falls when it’s mores change, but I guess you can say they do but are immediately replaced by a new, similar, but different society, and this is what he is worried about. He doesn’t fear physical destruction, he fears change itself.

  41. Bart says

The move Pat. Out of the country. Move to Uganda where they don’t have marriage equality. If he actually believes what he says he will move. If he stays in America…we all know that he is what we all know him to be, a fossilize liar and a bigot who bares no spiritual relationship to the person the religion he so scurrilously preaches is based on.

  42. mike/ says

i’d appreciate it if god, be it a he/she/it, would get on with it and destroy America quickly! i’m sick and tired of hearing these old asshats, hatemongers, family values people, & ‘holy men’ who can’t keep it in their pants saying it over and over and over…

  43. BobN says

If history is any guide, we’re going to thrive for several hundred years, eventually absorbing virtually the entire known world, then we’re going to adopt some crazy idol cult and slip into slow and inexorable decline.

Frankly, it seems to me we’ve already done the thriving, absorbing, and are well on our way to adopting the destructive cult and beginning our decline, and it’s not fair! We’ve barely begun the wild sodomy part. Obviously, we go the order wrong and skipped the best part…

  44. jaragon says

When is the rapture going to take all these religious idiots away…?! And can this old bastard die already so he can start burning in Hell.

  45. says

If you don’t like the subject matter presented at any given time, here’s a suggestion. Pass it over. Go onto something that does interest you. I do it all the time. Nobody is forcing you to read the material or watch the videos.

There are a lot of people out there who wish us harm, and I for one want to know who they are, what they’re saying, and most importantly what they’re doing.

Keep up the good work Andy.

  46. JEFFUWS says

Unfortunately Pat has a lot of devoted followers who fork over tons of money to him and his network. Don’t underestimate his hate and its influence

  47. Justin L Werner says

“What is the problem with this senile old fart ?” Where do we begin?

  48. Jim says

The end of the Roman civilization came as a result of greed, arrogance, obsession for power, war, and a disrespect for humanity… the very characteristics that describe the Bush/Cheney Administration. The references to homosexuality being the cause of the downfal has been fabricated to gain power by the Right.

  49. dh says

The Roman civilization flourished for fourteen centuries, tolerating homosexuality for most of that time. It didn’t collapse until shortly AFTER they adopted Christianity and outlawed it. Maybe God decided to smite them for becoming Christian.

  50. Mike says

Well, hopefully when god decides to do away with us he’ll start with the fatheaded bigot Pat Robertson. Of course, truth be told Robertson is just trying to get his “flock” to send in more cash so he can continue his crusade against the vile, evil feygeles.

  51. KD says

When was the last time a gay person raped an angel? Pat, did you ever think that maybe your god destroyed the city because of the angel rape and not because of the butt sex? No, of course you didn’t.

  52. Liam says

So, are Robertson and his fellow nutters going to move to another country and give us another reason to rejoice?

  53. Nathaniel Torres says

Even if I believed God would destroy men (myself being a Christian) I would not believe Pat Robertson nor the 700 Club. Just like Harold Camping and Cindy Jacobs the 700 Club made predictions that failed. Their words mean nothing, their warnings mean nothing, their threats mean nothing, none of them speak for God.

  54. Gemini Audax says

Pat could be right, but he doesn’t know why God would be justified: “Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, surfeit of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy.” — Ezekiel 16:49 (RSV)

  55. Jackie says

    WHAT WILL DESTROY AMERICA

Jesus predicted 2000 years ago (in Luke 17) that just before His return to earth as Judge, there will be a strange worldwide fad notable for its speed, boldness, violence, and impudent in-your-face openness. He called this craze the repetition of the “days of Lot” (see Genesis 19 for details). By helping to fulfill this spontaneous worldwide mania quietly coordinated by unseen forces, gays are actually hurrying up the final Judgeship of Christ. What’s really scary is the phrase “reprobate mind” found in Romans 1:28. One can ignore one’s conscience so much that God finally turns that person over to the “reprobate mind” of the most diabolical leader of evil in the universe. When this happens it’s almost as if the brainwashed human being has signed a statement saying “I don’t ever want God and don’t care if I end up in Hell!” The entire first chapter of Romans explains why God is forced to eventually and sorrowfully abandon certain individuals who constantly choose evil over good and ignore their conscience! If you’re laughing at this message, you may have almost reached the point of no return. Be sure to keep on laughing when God allows entire cities to be suddenly destroyed. Revelation 16:18-19 describes the greatest earthquake of all time which will level the “cities of the nations” – a quake that’s never achieved this in the past. There’s only one thing that can destroy America – no matter who becomes President – and that’s a four-letter word: EVIL. Change the letters and you can become totally VILE (and thus do your part to force God to send America even more disasters). Or better yet, you can turn to Christ (He’s the “Creator” that America’s founders referred to). And He’s alive and promises to reveal Himself to you if you will just pray to Him in your own words and tell Him what you need! If you decide to partner with Him, He can change the letters in EVIL and show you how you can really LIVE – and you’ll kick yourself for not checking Him out sooner! Remember, He can forgive and erase from His records ANY sin – even murder – since He’s the only Saviour who can do this! I write this in the spirit of love because I care for the part of you that will live forever in either Heaven or Hell!

  56. Matt H says

“Forgive them for they know not what they do.” Someone who knows the Word of God will be able to see the truth in Pat’s message quite clearly.
