Bachmann Shuts Out Iowa News Station Over Questioning About Husband's 'Ex-Gay' Clinic: VIDEOS

Davenport1

Michele Bachmann's 2012 presidential campaign is shutting out news organizations that ask about her husband's clinic and its practice of "reparative therapy" for homosexuality.

A cameraman for WQAD in Davenport, Iowa describes how the Bachmann campaign scrubbed a promised interview because one of the station's anchors had repeatedly asked Bachmann about the Marcus Bachmann clinic and the undercover operation that exposed its "ex-gay" practices.

WQAD writes:

At the end of last night's event the Bachmann campaign said the snubbing was based on interview questions News 8's Rae Chelle Davis asked the Congresswoman during a satellite interview two weeks ago. Undercover cameras had captured a counselor at the clinic owned by Michele Bachmann and her husband, Marcus, conducting reparative therapy. ... Due to a pre-planned satellite interview, we were in the unique position to ask her about the controversy first.

During the satellite interview, behind the scenes, it got ugly. In the News 8 control room, campaign staffers threatened WQAD producers that they would cut off the feed if Rae Chelle repeated the question. A follow-up question was asked on the issue. The Congresswoman's answers were aired nationally on ABC World News Tonight and Nightline.

At Sunday's Davenport fundraiser was our first chance to interview Bachmann since the satellite interview incident. All Quad Cities media were invited to attend and promised a one-on-one interview during the evening. While our competitors were accommodated, WQAD was blocked and denied.

Watch an interview with the camera man, and the original Bachmann interview, in which the feed is cut off, AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. They've lost control of the narrative and they're panicking.

  3. This clearly shows that she will not answer questions that don't fit her script. She can't speak extemporaneously and her "handlers" know this. It will be interesting because the more she tries to duck this question, the more reporters will dig. She'll eventually have to face this issue and it (AND the fact that she's dodging it) will likely be her undoing. We can't have a president who refuses to answer questions again. That happened for 8 years under Shrub.

  4. What?? They obv. believe in this so called therapy, so why not being open about it? Michele, tell us all about it!!
Actually this shows she is very worried about her campaign.

  5. She's done for! She can dodge questions as a tea party extremist, but you cannot dodge them as a presidential candidate. She is at about 12 minutes for her 15 minutes of fame!

  6. This is not a story about Bachman... this is really a story about ALL the candidates.

If media asks a wrong question, that network will never see that candidate again, except on FOX.

None of the networks ever discloses that they have agreed to conditions up-front, but clearly they all do.

Bachman's people are just inexperienced enough to let people see that it's happening.

  7. Well, dodging questions worked for Senator Sharron Angle, and it'll work for the Bachma-- oh wait. Never mind!

  8. She's so Stepfordian and repeats things like a parrot over and over from interview to interview. She's so wooden and modulated nothing seems real, that's why she simply can't heandle things when they go off narrative.

This woman will self-implode. She has mounting problems with her campaign and will eventually flame out. Personally, I'd love for her to be the Republican candidate, simply because she's so enormously beatable. And no one deserves it more.

  9. Of course she's never had a chance of being her party's nominee, but I bet she never expected that running for it would create this kind of damage.

The more she makes herself look guilty, the guiltier she looks. The more she doesn't want to talk about her gay husband, the gayer he looks. The more crazy she acts, the crazier she looks.

It's like shooting fish in a barrel, really, only much, much, much more fun.

  10. Well, I'll say this, Michele Bachman is right about the gays destroying things... she's got one destroying her own campaign from the inside... HER HUSBAND. Muahahahahaha! Goof! Goof! Goof!

  11. What would be great is if a prominent news figure -- say Barabra Walters -- interviewed her, asked her about Marcus' "Pray Away the Gay" business, and when she refused to snswer and tried to change the subject immediately end the interview. The look on her face tas the mic's are disconnected would be priceless.

  13. Michele and Big Missy are almost as big a train wreck as Lindsay!

  14. I've said this before but there is something very robotic about her image- of course she has to follow a script- the learned from Palin never to let her speak what's really on her mind.

    Posted by: jaragon | Jul 26, 2011 6:10:09 PM

  15. What happened to Palin is going to happen to the woman who married the gay guy. Michelle is NOT going to be President ever. But it's nice to have them exposed for the FRAUDS and JOKES that she and her "husband" are.

Meanwhile, I love the media giving them a hard time! :-)

  16. Useless interviewer! Why doesn't she call out Bachmann on avoidance of the question? She just lets her walk away with it. A UK interviewer wouldn't allow this.

    Posted by: JAMES | Jul 27, 2011 5:09:45 AM

  17. Btw, I'm sure Michelle is a repressed and frigid lesbian much like her husband and she practiced reparative therapy herself 24/7. How else can she be with her husband. She just wants everyone to be repressed and unhappy like herself hence she's running for presidency.
