road Adam Levine discusses having gay brother, among other things, with Out magazine: “I can single-handedly dispel any ideas that sexuality is acquired. Trust me, you’re born with it. My brother is gay, and we knew when he was two. We all really wanted to provide some cushion for him and constantly let him know that it’s OK.”

road Actress Amanda Amber Heard insists to Playboy magazine that she never "came out" because she was never in the closet. She's also found the media obsession over her same-sex love, however, to be "disconcerting:" "The only frustrating part has been all the media attention. For someone like me who prefers to keep her life as private as possible, it has been disconcerting to have to define so much about myself." (Note: Link is not to Playboy, but to On Top Magazine.)

road Interesting: "A North Carolina state university has put out a list of approved 'gay-friendly' churches for faculty and students raising concerns by at least one professor that taxpayers are inadvertently involved in 'telling people where to go to church.'"

road Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry describes Obama presidency as a "big black cloud" hanging over United States. He also remarked, "I think you want a president who is passionate about America -- that's in love with America." Because Obama hates America, right?

road Journalist Brian Montopoli on the cost of the Iowa Straw Poll: "Bachmann, Pawlenty and Ron Paul each spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy a few thousand votes. (Bachmann even brought in Randy Travis.) Their campaigns knew that the political media, desperate for a hook on which to hang a new narrative, would inflate the results—even as they dismissed them privately. Unfortunately for Pawlenty, that cuts both ways: The day after he came in third place—he got 2,293 votes, while Bachmann got all of 4,823—he dropped out of the race."

You couldn’t have those movements without a religious argument."

  1. "Actress Amanda Heard insists to Playboy magazine that she never 'came out' because she was never in the closet." I am not going to follow a link to Playboy and add in any small way to Hugh Hefner's overinflated sense of importance in the world; but I suspect that you might mean actress Amber Heard, not Amanda.

  2. Good for Google. All those Juicy Motorola Patents, some 24000, will protect Android from patent trolls like Oracle, Lodsys and Apple. I suspect Google will do what Microsoft does and extend its protections to its OEMs.

Rumour has it there about 150 key patents what will cause Apple a big headache if it persists in trying to win a war its slowly losing to Android by using legal threats rather than decent products.

Apple really is in trouble, Nokia is protected by Microsoft, Android by Google and Motorola with HTC and Samsung protected by association and protection extensions.

I predict Apples market share will start to shrink by Q1 2012.

  3. cool attitude of Adam Levine and family

BUT please tell me all those tats were drawn on for the photo shoot and are not permanent.

What a way to ruin good flesh

  5. I am sick of musicians saying "I've got a gay brother". When are they, themselves, going to come out? Of course, you need to keep in mind that the pop music industry is one of the most homophogc industries in the world, especially in regards to male-male sexuality.

Don't fall for Adam Levine's spin. He's simply trying to use the gay community to increase his popularity in my opinion.

  6. Keep in mind that the major record companies will not generally sign an openly gay or bisexual male recording artist. Even if they did, they would not allow him to use his sexuality in his marketing.

Women, on the other hand, are generally encouraged to say that they have "kissed a girl" by the very same people who prevent gay or bi guys from doing so.

  7. Could you all (the Towleroad people) please let your readers know what sites the links are to? I just clicked on the link to the North Carolina church story and it took me to Fox News. I really don't want to give Fox any traffic-thanks

  8. Adam is the coolest. One of Maroon 5's very first music videos affirmed that for me. You can just feel the empathy he has for people in pain.

  9. Jason, you are the definition of a whiny queen who is never satisfied. Ally for gay people? Not enough. He's just using us. He needs to be gay.

I have news for you. With a body like that, he doesn't need 'tricks' to attract gay fans.

  10. Like clockwork, the anti-tattoo brigade has shown up. Like I say about gay marriage, if you don't like gay marriage don't get gay married. If you don't like tattoos don't get tattoos. It's really that simple.

  11. The irony of someone who recently argued that his state should secede from the United States stating: "I think you want a president who is passionate about America -- that's in love with America." is just too rich.

  12. Re. the Rev. Barry Lynn: I admire Rev. Lynn's work a great deal, but I'm skeptical. It seems to me that religion simply provides the best cover for underlying homophobia and misogyny. At the high school where I teach, I encounter plenty of homophobic teens whose motivation is anything but religious.

No need for that. Just hover the cursor over the link before you click on it

  14. Adam is turning himself into gay porn star Caden Ross. He looks like he covered his body in preschool stickers.

Having said that, I think he is SO hot -- physically and (after hearing about his brother) emotionally.

  16. Thank you Towleroad - for revealing that Michelle Bachman brought in Randy Travis. On those rare occasions when I listen to country, I usually include his music. I'll be sure never to buy another CD\song he ever makes. This is important info to have - even if it does turn my stomach.

  17. What's with that Queer website about Emory being so homophobic? Social networking on campuses isn't always about hooking up.

  18. I think Adam Levine is sexy, but those are the worse tattoo's I've seen. They all look unfinished sketches. He needs to find a better tattoo artist.

  19. The North Carolina story is kinda odd. Just about every local community-based LGBT organization I've ever seen---including several on college campuses---have offered listings of LGBT-friendly local businesses & organizations. And that almost always includes churches. Seems like someone is trying to make a controversy where there should be none.

  20. It's pretty hilarious that Montopoli tuts at Huckabee's softball questions - when Montopoli gets up close with Sarah Palin, what does he ask? "I asked if she ever wished she could walk through a state fair unmolested," says Montopoli. He asks this of the former VP candidate who shows up unannounced at the Iowa State Fair on the day of the Republican Presidential Candidate Straw Poll.
