..and My views on charletons milking Brainwashed nitwits out of thier money – and then themselves LIVING like KINGS will never change either……You’re a Thief, a Con-Man, a Flim-Flammer

  2. Robert in NYC says

My gaydar gets pretty heated whenever I hear or see this fraud vent. One of the biggest con games out there.

  3. mitchblair says

I will say this…this man never preaches hate. His messages are always positive. And while he may have anti-gay views, his messages are always about loving everyone. Does his breath smell like cock? Sure!

  4. mattman says

I have to hand it to Piers for calling him out about the death penalty, ( Joel has to think about it) abortion, ( joel says its wrong to kill – see above) being gay, ( it’s in the bible) – Joel was all over the map with his answers and Piers just kept on and kept on…Joel had difficulty smiling after a while, as did his “wife”.

  5. Zell says

I don’t understand why we do this to ourselves: several comments, as well as the original article, imply that this rather despicable man is secretly gay. And yes, I know that’s a thing, Larry Craig and Mark Foley and George Rekers and the list goes on. But surely it’s not EVERY homophobe out there, and we do ourselves a disservice by hurling “gay!” as an insult with nothing to back it up. Would being gay invalidate his views? Please, let’s stop this awful and insulting practice of shrieking rather vulgar insinuations that someone is gay the moment they say something homophobic.

  6. Abel says

Osteen’s not gay but he may have a gay older brother. A friend of mine swears he had sex with him. I bet they keep him under wraps. I do not believe Joel is gay, however. Just a creep.

  7. Joey says

People who get their values out of a book are not to be trusted. He is only as deep as allowed by sheets of paper and only as compassionate as allowed by 4th Century Clergy.

We need to move on and let these types of unlearned folk mouth the same hoary lines to each other over and over until they take on the veneer of some reality they feel safe in. We will never change them and frankly I don’t care. Life is too important and full to bother anymore.

If he had been fortunate enough to been born gay, he would have long ago learned how to live his own truth.

  8. St Xerox says

Joey, you are not giving 4th century clergy enough credit. _Same-Sex Unions in Premodern Europe_ by John Boswell. Check it out.

Joel Osteen and his ‘prosperity gospel’ have as much to do with authentic Christianity as Kim Jong Il’s left pinkie toe. That American ‘evangelicals’ accept him as legit says volumes about their integrity. To the aforementioned 4th century clergy, he would be unrecognizable.

  9. chad says

I think a lot of people pick and choose the passages in the bible that suit them which is what this fella is doing because, I can only guess, he is a self loathing gay man.

The bible is anti gay, anti women and incredibly violent among other things. I would hope that someday we will get to the point in our society where we can laugh at the idea of the bible being a source of morality in out lives.

  10. thom says

The bible has WAY TOO MANY contradictions. It is then no surpise that “preachers” cherry-pick those verses that suit them, so they can control the fearful and ignorant, and while they are at it, put their eager hands out for $$$$’s. After all, they all claim, it takes a lot of money to run a successful ministry….Funny that Jesus himself had little or no use for money….and he CERTAINLY DID NOT live in a multi-million mansion. Just sayin’….

  11. says

Zell, I too disagree with labeling every homophobe as secretly gay. Some are just evil bitches. But preacher man has gayface galore.

  12. Caliban says

Why is it that the “born again” are so often the people you wish hadn’t been born in the first place?

“God” has a tendency to agree with whoever is citing Him, you may have noticed. All the laws and rules that are inconvenient to the speaker are dismissed as Biblical trifles while the rules for other people are ironclad. Just look at Joel Osteen and his “prosperity gospel” for instance. The Bible says a camel pass could through the eye of a needle easier than a rich man could get into Heaven and Jesus threw the money changers out of the temple. Yet out of that Joel Osteen got that Jesus wants you to rich? Well that’s a novel interpretation!

Like Zell says I do think it’s a mistake to assume all public homophobes are secretly gay. Yes, some of them are but a great many just hate because that’s what they are, hateful people. Or they’re exploiting it as a “wedge issue” to gain money, votes, and power.

  13. says

yet another man who talks to the weak and the poor about the “sin” of homosexuality all the while he lives a life of wealth and luxury that Christ would have been disgusted by.

Ezekiel 16 – the “sin of Sodom” was the hoarding of resources and money, not sexual activity.

    sinner.

  14. anon says

JO’s issues are largely his alienation from other baptist ministers. He’s kinda off in his own little world, primarily playing to a TV audience. It’s the theological disputes he would get into with his near-peers that would really upset him. Don’t forget that we have Camping’s new apocalypse date this month. Keep your eyes peeled.

  15. Michael says

My feelings about people like YOU Joel will also never change.Once a bigot always a bigot.

  16. says

What I don’t understand is why anyone gives this man ANY type of platform to speak on. What has he accomplished for humanity precisely? Okay–so we know he heads a megachurch and spews grabage to the brainwashed masses. But, has he worked on the discovery of a cure or breakthrough treatment for HIV? Has he pioneered a new way to treat and cure cancerous lesions? Is he the latest engineering genius to invent something radical that is going to dramatic improve the way everyone lives their lives? No. He is a preacher who preaches superstitous nonsense to those who will listen and believe it. And yet, he continues to appear on national television on a regular basis where he is given the attention of the limlight and a mechanism to promote stupidity. So, again I ask: Why?

  17. BobN says

    “main things”

There must be a thousand prohibitions in Leviticus. Only one is “main”. Odd.

  18. Bryan says

I agree with Mitchblair, I kinda find myself listening to him more than the other religious wackos because he doesn’t really preach the “death to all gays” mantra. That doesn’t mean I like him anymore than the WBC, but at least he’s a bit easier to stomach.

  19. says

At one point, the most important phrase in the scripture was “thou shalt not suffer a witch to live”. How many “witches” had to be burned at the stake?
200 years later, it’s still there in Exodus. And who are the “witches” of today?

  20. Paul R says

Witches of today? Well, there’s Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Ann Coulter, Phyillis Schafley, and numerous other journalists, politicians, and others in the public eye who I’m convinced aren’t even speaking what they feel—they just realized that female conservatives are a rare lot in the public eye (plenty in private life) and they could make a lot of money by being zealots.

I don’t care if he’s gay. Sure, the exposure of his hypocrisy would be great, because I despise hypocrites more than anything. But I don’t relish the notion of people associating gays with guys like this.

  21. Paul O. says

I cannot believe people give money to these “evangalists”. Do they ever show their homes, maids, butlers, drivers or limos on their shows? From what I’ve read of the bible, your last goals in life is unnaceptace or money! Hopefully there is a special place reserved for “them”. I believe it’s called HELL!

  22. Lover of God! says

It is amazing to me when a true Christian that believes the Word is criticized about his/her beliefs. Why would you be shocked that a Christian does not believe in homosexuality? Regardless of what the world says about acceptance, God’s word says that this lifestyle is a sin. God loves the person and Jesus died to give us a new life free from the sins of our past! The only change that needs to take place is the mindset that thinks it is okay to sleep with the same sex as well as all other sexual immorality.

  23. Beverly says

I agree that Joel is preaching a message that is contrary to biblical teaching. He should be warning people that the end is near and sinners need to repent of their sins and serve the living God. God is love, He hates the sin, but loves the sinner. When we speak of homosexuals we pass over the actual things they do in the name of “love”. It is LUST pure and simple. The things they do are dispicable and an abomination to God. If you don’t repent and turn from your ways you will soon find out what sin is. Judgemant day is coming and I hope you will be ready to face your Maker when that time comes.May God have mercy on your souls and give you grace to see the truth of His word.

  24. arkeen says

Homosexuality is not new. It was there in the time of Lot in the Bible. Sodom and Gomorrha was destroyed because of homo acts. That truth can never change no matter how popular the practice is growing. There are other vices in the bible like greed, extortion ! Why are we concentrating on homosexuality!

  25. Bill Jackson says

It’s funny how people will follow the lead of a commentator. Even one that misquotes fact. The observation that the bible should be “dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century is a great example. He quoted a portion of scripture and used it as an example. He probably would not have used it had he taken the time to read the scripture he quoted which is as follows:” You have heard the law say that the punishment should match the injury, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I say do not resist an evil person. If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer also your left cheek”. What part of that needs to be dragged into the 21st century?

  26. A B Earls says

I’ve listened to many of his sermons & he always says his Church welcomes everyone. He also preaches love & tolerance. Hypocritical? Money? A man of God does not condemn.

  27. Samantha says

I think ppl fail to remember that most ppl feel that homosexuality goes against the laws of nature. Can 2 men have a baby without the help of science, adoption, arragments outside of the relationship? No. Can 2 women? No.

  28. Art says

Personally I think too much attention is placed on the homosexual lifestyle as if it is the Worst thing a man can do. That simply is not true. I consider how would Jesus approach someone living is sin… Any Sin. Because frankly and here is the catch folks, according to God sin is sin, and all that is constitutes a separation from God, and people like to point to Adam and Eve as the beginning of that, it is not, it began when Lucifer rebelled against God and took one third of the angels with him cast from His presence, and their has been this breach ever since, now Lucifer [and he is a different person than Satan, really] has chosen to destroy what God created. That is where death, diseases, and all manner of sin the human race is capable of doing. And the worst sin is denying Christ. Without Faith it is impossible to please Him. Why because without faith a man will never believe in Truth, he will create his own truths. The only way to rid yourself of that sin, is a relationship with Christ. That doesn’t mean you will never sin again, it takes work to Repent completely and it can never fully be done in this life.

  29. Zach says

Thanks for standing up for your beliefs Joel. Who is man to change the word of God? We all definitely do our fair share of sinning and so shouldn’t single out a specific group of people. God loves homosexuals the same as everybody else, homosexual marriage I think is the part we should disagree with. Homosexuality is just another sin and a sin is a sin is a sin and we all commit them every day so it is hypocrisy to speak against homosexuals since we are just as bad. Marriage tho is defined as a covenant between one man and one woman, so it isn’t hypocrisy to try to preserve that definition. It is principle.
