Jane Lynch to Play NOM's Maggie Gallagher in Prop 8 Play; More Cast Announced: VIDEO

8

The full cast (or close to it) has been announced for the West Coast production of 8, Dustin Lance Black's play about the Prop 8 trial.

Via AFER:

George Clooney and Martin Sheen will play plaintiffs’ lead co-counsel David Boies and Theodore B. Olson, the all-star attorneys who notably faced-off in Bush v. Gore.  Christine Lahti and Jamie Lee Curtis will play plaintiffs Kris Perry and Sandy Stier, a lesbian couple together for eleven years and the parents of four boys.  Matthew Morrison and Matt Bomer will play plaintiffs Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo, a gay couple together over ten years.

Jane Lynch will play prominent opponent of marriage equality Maggie Gallagher, co-founder and former chairman of the National Organization for Marriage.  Rob Reiner will play David Blankenhorn, founder and president of the Institute for American Values.

As you may recall, Gallagher attended the play's benefit performance in New York on some sort of surveillance mission.

Additional cast includes Emmy Award-winning journalist Campbell Brown, Emmy Award-nominee Jesse Tyler Ferguson, prominent gay rights activist Cleve Jones, Tony Award-nominee Rory O’Malley, Emmy Award-winner Yeardley Smith, and acclaimed Star Trek television and film star George Takei.

The production will take place on March 3 and benefit the American Foundation for Equal Rights. Ticket information here.

  5. I'm glad there are actually some LGBT people being cast in this play. Hopefully they raise a lot of money though I wish they could do two performances, one for charity and one free for the general public.

  7. @ JWL: HA! Although it looks like Delta has lost some weight.

You're right, though... Jane Lynch is far too tall and slender to play Maggie the Hutt.

  12. Dawn French is too pretty to play Maggie. Kathy Bates would be excellent - she always is. BTW, @Jason, this play is having 43 other productions around the country. I imagine there will be more.

  13. Jane Lynch is a wonderful actress. She is hilarious in Glee. Always happy to see the LGBT community at its best.
