Skinheads Assault Gay Men in Santa Barbara in Brutal New Years Eve Hate Crime: VIDEO

Attack

Police are seeking information on three men who brutally beat two gay men on New Years Eve in Santa Barbara, California, the SB Independent reports. The attack was captured on video and was motivated by the victims' sexual orientation:

A police spokesperson said the two victims were walking toward their car parked near Ortega and Chapala Streets when they were confronted by three men they had never met. One of the suspects made a derogatory comment and the three proceeded to punch the victims. One of the victims suffered a broken jaw and a severe head injury that required staples to close. The other escaped with only minor injuries.

Watch video of the attack, AFTER THE JUMP...

The men were attacked at around 1:45 am, and the paper has posted descriptions of the assailants. All were white males with shaved heads.

Said Police Chief Cam Sanchez: “Hate crimes like these will not be tolerated and those responsible will be held accountable.”

  1. When some of these queens stop talking trash about Iowa and Alabama long enough to read this story, they are gonna be pissed.

  2. You'll notice the cab driver rubber necks and keeps on driving. No sense of duty to stop or assist. Typical.

Wow I love that for once someone who is an officer of the law said the RIGHT thing for a change. Hope the morons fry for this uneducated nazis.

  4. Horrific, what a horrible way to enter the new year. Hopefully there is a way to send well wishes or a donation to help pay for their medical costs.

Hate crimes are a problem everywhere, Bill, sadly. The difference is that in a state like Alabama or Tennessee, homophobia is the norm and average mentality. Whereas in other areas there tend to be particular groups that are more homophobic, but not the culture at large. On the west coast, skinheads are one of the main groups who commit hate crimes. They are a serious problem and a safety threat. Hopefully the victims recover physically and mentally.

  5. On New Year's Eve at 5:50PM, my partner exited our kitchen door to do a chore. As soon as he exited the door, rapid high caliber gun fire, about 5 shots, came for the property line of our stalking neighbor. I came out on the porch and the gun fire continued. In all there were about 20 shots fired. We call 911 and the arriving officer stated that the recordings on our Iphones, that were made of the event, could have been old recording that we could have fabricated them. While he was standing there, 4 other shots were fired from another stalking neighbor's property ( these two have joined forces as a team). He went to investigate the gun fire and came back saying that the neighbor didn't hear anything. Things are building. The recent investigation of bullet hole in our dawn to dusk security light was an insult and a joke.

  6. a stupid self-hating queen will insult the victims by insisting that they deserved a beating for not fighting back & winning, in 3...2...1...

never mind that the fight was 3 against 2.

never mind that many people (straight, gay, and other) are not mentally or physically prepared to bash back at a moment's notice when going about their normal daily life.

  7. Jerry, where do you and your partner live? It sounds like absolute hell and I know you've made posts in the past detailing what you've had to go through. What do you plan on doing to make sure you and your partner are safe?

  8. Thanks for the education, Francis. As a Southerner who has also live in CA, NJ, NY, and MD, I had no idea that homophobia was normal in the South, but generally shunned elsewhere. I must have completely missed that in all my travels. Oh, and I would also like to apologize for my existence as a Southerner, which obviously makes me homophobic. I know you wish we would all disappear in the same way Pat Robertson wishes all gays would disappear. Nope, no irony there at all. Anyway, thanks for missing, and therefore proving my point. Cheers.

  9. jesus JERRY that is terrible. i feel truly lucky to live in a city in northern england where this kind of stuff pretty much never happens. plus we don't have guns

    Posted by: DanSwon | Jan 4, 2012 1:42:21 PM

  10. @Danswon...lucky for you. Gays in the US are subject to these hate crimes all the time. I live in CA...guns everywhere you look. Put a gun into an uneducated persons hands and this is what you get....too often.
You can almost always associate this type of behaviour with low level ed & as a result...low self-esteem. I don't know a single person who would deliberately hurt another person like this...but I'm happy to say...my friends are educated. Connect the dots!

  11. "where this kind of stuff pretty much never happens. plus we don't have guns"

Lol. You mean YOU don't have a gun.

  12. Jerry,
The issue of whether or not your iphone recordings of the shooting are good evidence is not something that is decided "on the fly" by a police officer. If the officer did not take your account of the incident seriously, it is time to start going up the chain of command. Also consider calling the FBI as you believe these are bias related incidents and local law enforcement are not treating them as such.

  13. Why was it necessary to mention that the assailants were all white? Would Andy have referred to them as "all black" if they had been all black? i doubt it.

  14. If you are looking for suspects, a basic description including race is both necessary and helpful.

  15. Don't fret, Jason. I'm sure if they were black you'd be all over it.

    Posted by: sugarrhill | Jan 4, 2012 5:58:19 PM

  16. sugarrhill +1

Were the attackers all Black, and Andy failed to mention it, I know what you'd be saying, Jason.

Andy should always mention the race of the perpetrators in cases like that, since many on here assume the thugs are Black or Hispanic or Immigrant, whenever a sad news like this comes out.

  17. Bill, apology accepted. And by all means continue to indulge in self-pedastaling. Yes, we know that's not a word, but for you it really is.

  18. It's high time to buy a gun with a laser sight and learn how to use it.

Having a laser pointed directly at you and knowing there just might be a GUN attached to it is enough to stop most perps dead in their tracks.

  19. If you look closely you can see the skinhead attacker in plaid throw up a "Heil Hitler" sign toward the end of the video.. horrible.

  20. @PaulB. - obviously you are British or South African by your spelling. While I do believe in gun control, a gun holder's level of education is not a huge factor in whether crimes are committed. Sure , if the person is borderline retarded that is one thing but beyond that it is negligible. Further, as a non-American, I don't think you are an authority on the topic. Shut it and got off your Brit high horse of generalizing.

    Posted by: ajjanthony | Jan 4, 2012 11:02:12 PM

  21. @PaulB. Furthermore, guns are not "everywhere" in the US - that is an exaggeration. Again, I'm PRO gun control but I'm tired on NON-Americans painting the U.S. as the wild west...

  22. I lived in Santa Barbara for 50 years and sometimes I'd like to move back. It saddens me that members of the Gay Community are treated so badly, here or anywhere.

Chief of Police Cam Sanchez is different and quite an improvement over some of the prior chiefs. I hope they find the 3 creeps and prosecute them with the hate crime enhancement. Best wishes to the victims.

  23. @Jerry: Do you have an attorney? Have you contacted him/her about the way the local police have treated you regarding this and other incidents? Something is way wrong with their response. Someone else suggested contacting the FBI...great idea. This does indeed sound like a PATTERN of hate crimes. I hope you have kept detailed documentation of each and every incident. Praying for your safety, buddy!

  24. skin heads should be shot on sight but just enough to let them die slow and painfully and this comes from a German that knows what these monsters are capable of. I say kill skin heads where they stand and world will be better for it.

  25. This is exactly why every able-bodied self-respecting gay person should have a concealed carry license and a gun and know how to use them.
